Air Bags May Not Deploy As Intended

Air bags that do not deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Summary

Oshkosh Corporation (Oshkosh) is recalling certain Oshkosh Defense NGDV ICE vehicles. During supplier testing, the terminals in a wiring harness connector may have been deformed, possibly resulting in an insufficient electrical connection that can cause the air bags not to deploy as intended.

Remedy

Oshkosh will inspect and replace the electrical connectors, or replace the wiring harness as necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for owner notification. Owners may contact Oshkosh’s customer service at 1-800-392-9921. Oshkosh’s number for this recall is NGDV_TSB-001.

Chronology :

On June 13, 2024, during routine checks on a completed Next Generation Delivery Vehicle at the production facility, a diagnostic trouble code was observed for the vehicle’s airbag system. Investigation into the origin of this trouble code indicated it related to an electrical connector, a component of a larger wiring harness.

Oshkosh Defense communicated with the supplier of the wiring harness to jointly investigate the issue which revealed that certain tools being utilized by the supplier during the assembly process of the wiring harness may have led to deformation of terminals within the electrical connector. The investigation also found that depending on the extent of the deformation of the terminals, this may result in the disruption of electrical signals in the vehicle’s airbag system. On June 17, 2024 Oshkosh Defense decided to file a 573 report with NHTSA.

Oshkosh is not aware of any warranty claims, field reports or injuries potentially related to this issue.
