ABS Fault Codes Not Stored/FMVSS 121
An ABS system that does not store fault codes may fail to warn the driver of an issue, or prevent proper repair. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Summary
Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2022 Freightliner
Cascadia vehicles. The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS
) fault codes will not be stored when the vehicle is keyed off for more than 5 seconds, impairing its diagnostic features and warning light. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, “Air Brake Systems.”
Remedy
The remedy is currently under development. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed on August 18, 2022. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA’s number for this recall is FL-943.

DTNA has tracked all of the vehicles in this limited population and knows with certainty that none of the vehicles remain in the hands of a dealership. Due to the limited population subject to the recall, DTNA will work with the lone customer to get the vehicles repaired. Therefore, no dealership letter is needed in this unique case.
Chronology :
DTNA discovered that an ABS fault code was not storing during a routine test procedure on June 2, 2022. DTNA promptly began an investigation into the issue, within which investigation it was confirmed to the best of DTNAโs knowledge that the issue exists on 17 specific customer vehicles. On June 22, 2022, DTNA determined that a non-compliance existed and decided to conduct a voluntary non-compliance recall campaign for these limited production vehicles. The investigation found no evidence of accident or injury as a result of the issue.

Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its Freightliner Trucks Division, has decided that certain 2022 Freightliner Cascadia vehicles manufactured October 28, 2021, through December 17, 2021, fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 121, โAir Brake Systems.โ On certain limited production vehicles when keyed off for more than 5 seconds, the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) fault codes will not be retained, which can impair the ABS diagnostic features and warning light. An ABS system that does not store fault codes may fail to warn the driver of an issue, or prevent proper repair. Operating a vehicle that may fail to warn the driver of an issue, or prevent proper repair can increase the risk of a crash. This is the first of two notices you will receive regarding this subject. This letter is to inform you of an upcoming Recall to correct the issue noted above. Daimler Trucks is currently working on a solution. There is no action for you to take at this time. The second notice will inform you when the free, final remedy is available. When you receive the second notice, please contact your authorized Daimler Trucks North America dealer to schedule the Recall for your vehicle.
