Chronology :
In mid-July a warranty claim related to tires resulted in the discovery that the trailer had an axle installed with a lower weight rating than the trailer’s stated GVWR. In response, all in stock inventory at the Batavia, Ohio production facility which utilized that axle were inspected and corrected, if necessary. Over the next 60 days, an additional 12 warranty claims were received for units with incorrect axles, all of which had shipped prior to mid-July. These trailers have been remedied. Upon further review, it was determined that the potential for more units with the incorrect axles to have been shipped existed and a recall is now being initiated.

Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : CM will notify all affected dealers of the recall and request that any trailers currently in their inventory not be sold until an inspection is completed to verify the axle rating matches that of the trailer GVWR. CM will provide the components and instructions for dealer replacement and reimburse for labor to inspect and perform any necessary replacement. The remedy will be to replace any axles rated lower than the stated GVWR of the trailer with axles rated to the proper weight. Customers will be notified that they will be reimbursed for reasonable costs incurred to replace the axles on their trailer if they were required to do so prior to the issuance of a recall. Customers will be asked to submit paid invoices and proof of replacement prior to reimbursement. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Remedy axles will have the appropriate rating for the stated GVWR of the trailer. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-738 Page 4 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Additional production checkpoints and product quality review steps were added to the manufacturing process to ensure that the appropriately rated axles are installed on each trailer.
