Dear Freightliner Sprinter Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Freight liner Sprinter vans, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle
safety exists in certain Model Year (“MY”) 2019-2021 Freightliner Sprinter vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is
included in the affected population of vehicles.
What is the issue?
MBAG has determined that on certain Sprinter vehicles, the instrument cluster might fail to display upon vehicle start
up. A blank instrument cluster will not show critical information such as the speed, the fuel gauge, warning lights and
warning messages, as well as acoustic warnings, increasing the risk of a crash.
What will your Freightliner Sprinter Dealer do?
An authorized Freightliner Sprinter dealer will update the instrument cluster software on the affected vehicles.
This could take approximately 30 minutes. This service will be provided free of charge. You may be asked for
your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which for your convenience is located above your name at the top of
this letter.

Reimbursement to Customers for Repairs Performed Prior to Recall
If you have already paid to have this recall condition corrected, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement.
Requests for reimbursement may include parts, labor, fees and taxes. Reimbursement may be limited to the
amount the repair would have cost if completed by an authorized Freightliner Sprinter dealer. The following
documentation must be presented to your dealer for reimbursement.
Original or clear copy of all receipts, invoices and/or repair orders that show:
• The name and address of the person who paid for the repair.
• The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the vehicle that was repaired.
• What problem occurred, what repair was done, when it was done and who repaired it.
• The total cost of the repair expense that is being claimed.
• Proof of payment of repair (copy of front and back of cancelled check or copy of credit card receipt).
• Reimbursement will be made by check from your dealer. If your claim is denied you will receive a letter from
MBUSA within 60 days of receipt with the reason(s) for the denial.

This is to notify you of an Initial Recall Campaign to update instrument cluster software on approximately 414 MY19-21 Freightliner Sprinter vans. The recall campaign will be visible on the www.safercar.gov website and may generate questions from customers. All affected VINs will be flagged as “PENDING” in VMI and cannot be sold until repaired.
Background
Issue
Mercedes-Benz AG (MBAG), the manufacturer of Freightliner Sprinter vans, has determined that on certain Sprinter (907 platform) vehicles, the instrument cluster might remain non-functional upon vehicle start up. In the rare circumstance the malfunction occurs, information such as the speedometer, the fuel gauge, indicator lamps and warning messages, as well as acoustic warnings would not be available. The issue would occur upon vehicle start up, and continue during its operations and subsequent ignition cycles. Should the vehicle be driven with the instrument cluster malfunction present, the risk of a crash cannot be ruled out.
What We’re Doing
DVUSA is conducting a voluntary recall. An authorized Freightliner Sprinter dealer will update the instrument cluster software on the affected vehicles.

Given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for a dealer to sell or lease any new vehicles in dealer inventory covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired.
Loaner and demonstrator vehicles may continue to be driven, but must not be retailed until repaired. Additionally, given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for rental companies to rent vehicles covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired.
