Improperly Secured Seat Belt Fasteners
Loose seat belt mounting fasteners may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Summary
Autocar, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Autocar DC (Legend) trucks. The seat belt mounting fasteners may be improperly secured.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect, secure, or replace the seat belt mounting fasteners, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 21, 2023. Owners may contact Autocar’s customer service at 1-888-218-3611. Autocar’s number for this recall is DC-2302.

Chronology :
12/22/2021 Autocar personnel discovered a non-functional torque tool for seat belt fastener installation. An alternate tool was sourced for production and an internal investigation began.
10/12/2022 Internal investigation concluded and reassigned for disposition.
01/18/2023 Product investigator audited work instructions for seat belt fasteners.
02/23/2023 Product investigator audited quality systems for the DC (Legend) seat belt fastener torque verification.
03/02/2023 Product investigator reviewed calibration and maintenance of torque tools.
04/10/2023 Product investigator reviewed data from seat belt torque tooling.
4/11/2023 Tooling Calibration Technician audited torque on seat belt fasteners for a specific unit.
04/13/2023 Internal training provided to cab assembly team.
05/17/2023 During an internal audit it was determined the thread locking compound was not applied to seat belt fasteners. A stop ship was issued, and a clean point established for production.
05/18/2023 The information was presented to Autocar management team and out of an abundance of caution Autocar decided to perform a voluntary Safety Recall. We have no known complaints, claims or reports.

We have no known complaints, claims or reports. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The seat belt fasteners will be properly secured and or replaced at no charge. Autocar will voluntarily initiate an owner notification and recall of all affected vehicles. Autocar will distribute to owners of affected vehicles an Owner Notification Letter, which will describe the defect and provide instructions for scheduling the inspection/repair of the vehicle at no cost to the vehicleโs owner. The owner letter will instruct vehicle owners who have paid to have this condition remedied prior to this campaign to seek reimbursement pursuant to Autocarโs General Reimbursement Plan, on file with the agency pursuant to 49 C.F.R. 573.6(c)(8)(i) and 49 C.F.R 573.13. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The seat belt fasteners will be properly secured and or replaced at no charge. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : 5/17/2023 a stop ship was issued to repair all units at Autocar, Assembly teams retrained, and a clean point established for production.
