In the event of an a/c compressor failure, the current draw spike from the compressor will blow the fuse protecting the circuit. The fuse also supplies the ignition power circuit causing a loss of ignition power to the chassis when the fuse is blown. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Loss of all power to chassis, engine stoppage, which could lead to an increased risk of crash. Description of the Cause : Lack of circuit protection in the event of an a/c compressor failure. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : None Involved Components : Component Name 1 : MODULE MULTI PLEX IFM Component Description : CHASSIS CONTROL MODULE Component Part Number : CR0033 Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-406 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : IFM EFFECTOR, INC Address : PO BOX 8538-307 PHILADELPHIA Pennsylvania 19171-0307 Country : United States Chronology : 04/30/2023 there was a field complaint reported to the chassis service department about a of loss of chassis power. Tiffin field service technicians and chassis engineering began to investigate and determined the dash A/C compressor had failed and that the dash A/C compressor and the ignition switch power were wired on the same circuit block. 5/30/2023 Issue was brought before the safety committee, and they voted to issue a recall. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : All field units involved in the recall will be inspected to verify which brand of chassis controller is installed. If a chassis has the IFM controller, a harness with an inline fuse will be installed into the wiring harness for the A/C compressor so that in the event of a failure of the A/C compressor, the inline fuse will blow and the power to the ignition switch will not be lost. Letters will be mailed to all owners and dealers with involved units notifying them of a recall. The repair will be completed at no charge to the owner. There is no plan for reimbursement because any failures would have been covered under Tiffin’s PowerGlide chassis warranty. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : In the field, a jumper harness with the inline fuse will be installed at the chassis controller. In production, a programming change will be applied to separate the circuit for the A/C compressor and the ignition switch. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : As of 05/22/2023, an engineering change notification was issued to provide a controller programming change to separate the A/C compressor from the ignition power supply. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Tiffn Motorhomes will mail letters to customers and dealers that are in possession of the involved coaches explaining the issue and asking them to take the motorhome to a dealer or service center for inspection and replacement, if needed, at no cost to the owner.
