Summary
Dana Incorporated (Dana
) is recalling certain Dana
-Spicer Driveshafts, model number SPL100 DS/CS. The driveshafts can break under certain loading conditions.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the driveshafts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 24, 2023. Owners may contact Dana customer service at 1-419-887-3000.

, reporting a driveshaft separation. Dana
promptly requested return of the failed parts, and initiated an investigation, including materials analysis, to evaluate the report. While Dana
โs investigation was ongoing, on or about May 25, 2023, Dana
received report of a driveshaft separation from customer, Navistar
. Dana
promptly requested return of this failed part, and initiated an investigation, including materials analysis, to evaluate this report. That materials analysis concluded on June 28, 2023, which the engineering team reviewed on June 29, 2023, prompting a safety committee meeting on June 30, 2023. The safety committee determined the need for this report.

Production Dates : AUG 05, 2022 – SEP 14, 2022 Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : Due to the supplierโs use of non-conforming material in its production processes, the specified driveshafts do not meet specification and can break in certain high loading conditions. will replace all units that are the subject of this report. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The issue is isolated to two manufacturing lots in which the nonconforming components were incorporated, August 5-10, 2022, and September 8-14, 2022. Replacement driveshafts will not be manufactured with the non-conforming components. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The recall condition was caused by a supplierโs use of non-conforming tubing material at the start of production runs, whereas protocol bars use of that material. The supplier reports that it has enhanced its process for identification and control of non-conforming material to prevent a recurrence of this issue.
