Transmission May Separate from Driveshaft
A sudden loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, a disabled bus may require an evacuation procedure in an uncontrolled traffic situation, increasing the risk of injury to passengers.

Summary
Gillig, LLC (Gillig
) is recalling certain 2019-2023 Low Floor transit buses. The transmission yoke may separate, resulting in driveshaft separation and a sudden loss of drive power.
Remedy
Gillig will work with the equipment manufacturer, Allison Transmission Inc., to inspect and tighten the transmission yoke bolts, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 1, 2023. Owners may contact Gillig
customer service at 1-510-264-5073 or 1-800-735-1500.

Production Dates : NOV 02, 2019 – OCT 26, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : 15GGB2718K3192507 End : 15GGD2714P3094424 โ Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : Under certain conditions, the output yoke bolt may loosen and potentially result in separation of the driveline from the transmission output shaft. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If the driveline separates from the transmission output shaft while driving, the vehicle may experience an unexpected loss of propulsion, which may increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, an immobilized transit bus presents a potential risk of injury to passengers if they are offloaded in an unsuitable environment. Description of the Cause : ATI has not yet determined the cause of the loosening of the output yoke bolt. Since transit bus duty cycles have a very high start/stop shift density, ATI indicates that this may generate significantly more torsional activity on this bolted joint than other applications. Testing by ATI is ongoing. to inspect the output yoke bolts and, if necessary, tighten loose output yoke bolts. Pursuant to 49 CFR 577.11(e), ATI has requested NHTSA to be exempted from providing a pre-notification reimbursement plan. Pre-notification product failures would have been addressed under the terms of the ATIโs or vehicle manufacturerโs warranty. How Remedy Component Differs ATI communicated that has increased the torque specification for the Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-740 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR ยง573 from Recalled Component : output yoke bolt for all B400R and B3400xFE_R transmissions. The clamp load for the output yoke bolt was increased by approximately 150%, nominal torque is being increased from the previous specification of 77.5 Newton-meters (Nm) to 130 Nm. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : In their 573 report, ATI specified that a specification change was implemented on October 3, 2023. This change increases the torque on the output yoke bolt from 77.5 Nm to 130 Nm. Gillig
has implemented factory containment on 11/2/2023. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Recall notices will be sent as soon as NHTSA approves the draft letter. GILLIG
