Damaged Relays May Short Circuit

Summary
Kibbi, LLC is recalling certain 2023 Renegade Classic, Classic Toter, Explorer, Verona LE, and XL recreational vehicles, equipped with Multiplex HC Relay Cards with part number, 70516J. The relays may be damaged, which can result in an electrical short circuit.
Remedy
Kibbi will remove the 2, 4, and 6 output wires from the connector on the C25, and update the files on the touch screen, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 2023. Owners may contact Kibbi customer service at 1-574-766-0196.

Chronology :
On 9/26/2023, Renegade notified Firefly Int. of a potential issue they had discovered in damaged relay boards on the ECM. Firefly began an investigation into the issue and were able to determine the issue on 9/27/2023.

Description of the Defect : A solder bridge could be formed causing a dead short.

Description of the Safety Risk : On power up, a dead short could take place introducing a risk of thermal
event.
Description of the Cause : Because 2 outputs were combined to support a motor load, if both outputs
failed to engage at the same time, a solder bridge could be formed causing a
dead short.

Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : To remedy the issue output wires 2,4, & 6 need to be eliminated on
connector C25 of the M1 ECM. Once wires have been eliminated, files need
to be updated through the touchscreen. All manufactures reimbursement
will be sent to Firefly Int. who will be reimbursing 4.75 hours.
How Remedy Component Differs
from Recalled Component :
The remedied component only has 1 output powering the motor load and
has updated files to support this function.
Identify How/When Recall Condition
was Corrected in Production :
Once the remedy to terminate wires on C25 of the M1 ECM and update the
files was determined on 9/27/2023, Firefly began updating units in
Production at Renegade on 9/29/2023. Firefly completed the Production
units on 10/2/2023. The same remedy was instituted on all units going
forward.
Recall Schedule :
Description of Recall Schedule : Dealers were notified by phone the week of 10/16/23 and Firefly began
to campaign to personally fix each unit at dealer locations. By 10/27/23,
all dealer units were updated. The week of 10/16/23, retail customers
were notified by phone of the issue and were told how to avoid it unit the
recall could be completed. By 11/26/23, customers will have the recall
letter delivered to them.
