Incorrect VIN on Certification Label/Part 567
An owner that references an incorrect VIN label may not recognize their trailer is involved in a safety recall, and may not have the recall remedy performed, which could increase the risk of injury, fire, or a crash.

Summary
Great Dane Trailers, (Great Dane
) is recalling certain 2023 Champion trailers. The VINs on the certification label may be incorrect. As such, these trailers fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, “Certification.”
Remedy
Great Dane has mailed new certification decals, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 13, 2024. Owners may contact Great Dane
customer service at 1-877-369-3493.

Descriptive Information : An audit of our records showed that an order for 22 trailers was changed after the
VINs were issued, and the VINs were not updated to reflect the change. Our
investigation showed that manufacturing realized the error at some point after
production and sent corrected certification decals to the customer but did not correct
our computer records.

Description of Noncompliance :
Description of the Great Dane has determined that a number of trailers produced in our Brazil
Noncompliance : Indiana manufacturing facility were produced with incorrect VINs on their
certification decals. The section of the VIN that denotes the length of the trailer
is incorrect. which also caused the check digit to be incorrect.
FMVSS 1: 567 – Certification
FMVSS 2 : NR
Description of the Safety Risk: This is a non-compliance issue, the certification plates were printed with
incorrect VINs. The length indicator and check digit are incorrect which may
lead to law enforcement believing that the VIN had been altered or that the
trailer was stolen.
Description of the Cause : The customer issued a late change order changing the length of the trailers
after the VINs were issued. Great Dane did not update the VINs with the new
length information.
