Summary
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 1500, 2500, 3500 and 4500 vehicles. The rear side windows may be single-pane safety glass instead of laminated safety glass.
Remedy
DVUSA will notify owners, and Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner dealers will replace the single-pane safety glass with laminated safety glass., free of charge. DVUSA issued owners an interim notification on August 16, 2019. The recall began January 21, 2020. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA’s number for this recall is VS3VERGLAS.

Issue | Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner vans, has determined that, due to a documentation error, certain Sprinter vehicles (VS30; Platform 907) which should have been manufactured with rear side windows in laminated safety glass, were incorrectly manufactured with single-pane safety glass on single side windows in the rear on the right-hand side or on both sides. In the event of a side impact event or vehicle rollover, the fitted side windows may not fulfil the expected ejection mitigation function and occupants in the rear of the vehicle could be ejected. | SUBJECT: | Model 907 (Sprinter), Model Year 2019 Replace Side Window |
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that in certain Sprinter vehicles (model series 907), a single-pane safety glass might have been installed in the rear side windows instead of the laminated safety glass that was intended. This may result in an increased risk of injury to vehicle occupants in the event of a side rollover, particularly vehicle occupants who have not fastened their seat belts. An authorized Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner dealer will check the rear side windows in the affected vehicles and replace if necessary.
Prior to performing this Recall Campaign:
- Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.
- Please review the entire Recall Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly

Dear Freightliner Sprinter Owner or Lessee,
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Freightliner Sprinter vans, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Model Year 2019 Freightliner Sprinter vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the affected population of vehicles.
| What is the CONCERN? | MBAG determined that certain Freightliner Sprinter vehicles (VS30; Platform 907) which should have been manufactured with rear side windows in laminated safety glass, were incorrectly manufactured with single-pane safety glass on single side windows in the rear on the right-hand side or on both sides. In the event of a side impact event or a vehicle rollover, the fitted side windows might not fulfil the expected ejection mitigation function and so occupants in the rear of the vehicle could be ejected. This could increase the risk of injuries, especially for passengers without seat belts. |
| What will your DEALER DO? | An authorized Freightliner Sprinter dealer will replace the affected side windows in single-pane safety glass with laminated safety glass. This service will be provided free of charge. While the minimum repair time is approximately 10 hours and 20 minutes, your dealer can provide you with a better estimate of the overall time for this service visit. As a matter of normal service process, an authorized Freightliner dealer will also check for other repair measures which might be applicable to your vehicle which may increase the required working time. You will not be charged for other service or repairs unless so requested. |

In the event of a side impact event or vehicle rollover, the fitted side windows may not fulfil the expected ejection mitigation function and occupants in the rear of the vehicle could be ejected. This could increase the risk of injuries, especially for passengers without seat belts.
We want to assure you that Daimler Vans USA is taking all necessary measures to remedy this situation for you. We are also working closely with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”) and suppliers to provide a remedy as soon as possible. Unfortunately, replacement parts are not yet available for your vehicle, and we will contact you again once parts become available.
As soon as a suitable replacement part is available for your vehicle, we will send another letter notifying you to bring your vehicle to your local authorized Freightliner Sprinter dealer to repair your vehicle free of charge. In the meantime, please visit
