Summary
Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Freightliner
Cascadia sleeper trucks equipped with Bridgestone
R284, R268, or R283S ECOPIA steer axle tires in conjunction with a specific air dam. The steer tires may experience tread separation or blow-outs while driving.
Remedy
DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steer tires, free of charge. The recall began March 10, 2021. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA’s number for this recall is FL872.

General Information
Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its Freightliner
Trucks Division, has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists on the vehicles mentioned above.
On certain trucks, the tread on the steer axle tires could separate while driving. If this happens, the tire could fail and suddenly lose air pressure. A tire failure could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with a specific air dam and certain Bridgestone R284, R268, or R283S ECOPIA tires.
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their truck to one of four tire distributors listed in the owner notice, or a DTNA authorized service facility, to replace the steer tires, as necessary. Please reference the owner notice to view the tire distributor map/contact info. DTNA recommends that drivers should pay special attention to tire inflation, loading, and perform extra inspections of the tire tread and sidewall before and after each trip.
There are approximately 4,390 vehicles involved in this campaign.
REVISION: The figures in the Verified Tire Destruction section have been updated to ensure the correct DOT Tire Identification Number (TIN) is captured.
Additional Repairs
Dealers must complete all outstanding Recall and Field Service campaigns prior to the sale or delivery of a vehicle. A Dealer will be liable for any progressive damage that results from its failure to complete campaigns before sale or delivery of a vehicle.
Owners may be liable for any progressive damage that results from failure to complete campaigns within a reasonable time after receiving notification.
Tire Distributors
To minimize customer downtime we have enlisted four tire distributors to assist with this recall. Customers should be contacting the tire distributors as the first option, and only in unusual situations will a Daimler Trucks dealership need to complete the repair. Please reference the owner notice to view the tire distributor map/contact info.

Please refer to the attached work instructions. Prior to performing the campaign, check the vehicle for a completion sticker (Form WAR260).

Removed Tires
Tires must be disabled/destroyed per the procedure in the work instructions titled, Verified Tire Destruction. All subject tires must be properly disposed of in accordance with applicable laws and should be channeled, where possible, into a category of positive reuse (shredding, crumbling, recycling, recovery) or another alternative beneficial non-vehicular use. The DOT TIN from each removed tire must be provided on the recall claim.

The Act states that failure to repair a vehicle within 60 days after tender for repair shall be prima facie evidence of an unreasonable time. However, circumstances of a particular situation may reduce the 60 day period. The Bridgestone steer tires will be replaced, as necessary. DTNA recommends that drivers should pay special attention to tire inflation, loading, and make extra inspections of the tire tread and sidewall before and after each trip. Repairs may be performed by Daimler Trucks

Work Instructions
Subject: Cascadia Bridgestone
Steer Tire Failures
Models Affected: Specific Model Year 2020-2022 Freightliner Cascadia model vehicles, manufactured February 5, 2019, through January 6, 2021, equipped with Bridgestone
R284, R268, or R283S ECOPIA steer axle tires, in conjunction with a specific air dam.
Tire Inspection
- Check the base label (Form WAR259) for a completion sticker for FL872 (Form WAR260) indicating this work has been done. The base label is usually located on the passenger-side door about 12 inches (30 cm) below the door latch. If a completion sticker is present, no work is needed. If a completion sticker is not present, continue with the next step.
- Park the vehicle, shut down the engine, and apply the parking brake. Chock the tires.
- Inspect the front steer axle tires. If both front steer axle tires have already been replaced, and are not Bridgestone
tires, then file an FL872 inspection claim.
- If either tire is a Bridgestone
, replace both tires. The two replacement tires must be a matched set from the same manufacturer. Follow the procedures below.
Aerodynamic Bumper Removal
- Disconnect all electrical connectors, such as foglights, from the bumper.
- If equipped, remove the towhook bracket and the towhooks.
- Remove the foglight wiring brackets from the bumper mounting brackets.
- Remove the four fasteners on each side of the bumper that attach the bumper to the bumper mounting brackets. See Fig. 1.
- Bumper Mounting Bracket
- Close the hood. Latching the hood is not necessary.
- Lift slightly up on the bumper to move the bumper tabs up off the bumper casting sockets, then pull the bumper off. See Fig. 2.
Wheel Removal
- Raise the front axle, and place safety stands under the front axle.
- Turn the wheel until one hub-pilot pad is in the top-center position.
- Place a jack or wheel-and-tire dolly under the wheel assembly being serviced.
NOTICE
Keep the wheel square to the hub during removal. The wheel center hole and hub pilot have close tolerances. If the wheel is not kept square to the hub, it could bind during removal and damage the stud threads or hub-pilot pads.
IMPORTANT: On both sides of the vehicle, the two-piece flange nuts have right-hand threads.
- Leaving one top and one bottom nut to keep the wheel straight, remove the other eight two-piece flange nuts from the wheel; then remove the top and bottom nuts.
- Remove the wheel. Do not let it drop on, or drag across the stud threads.
Demounting Tubeless Tires
Five-Degree Full Drop Center
WARNING
Read the information in Section 40.00, Subject 110 of the New Cascadia Workshop Manual. Failure to follow the precautions, before and during tire demounting and mounting, could cause tire damage while servicing or in use. An incorrectly mounted tire can burst which could cause personal injury and equipment damage.
To demount tubeless tires on 5-degree full drop center rims, regular or safety type, follow the same procedures used to demount tubeless automobile tires.
Fifteen-Degree Tapered Drop Center
2.1 Place the wheel on a wooden floor or rubber mat with the wide side up.
2.2 Drive the flat end of the tire tool between the tire bead and the wheel flange.
2.3 Holding the tool upright, hammer on the neck to free the tire bead from the wheel. See Fig. 3.
2.4 Repeat at 8-inch (20-cm) intervals around the flange, until the bead is free from the wheel.
2.5 Turn the wheel over and repeat the previous substeps to loosen the second bead from the wheel.
- Remove one bead from the wheel.
3.1 Make sure the wide side of the wheel is down.
3.2 Lubricate the tire bead and the wheel.
3.3 Insert the curved end of two tire tools between the bead and the wheel, just to one side of the tire valve. See Fig. 4.
3.4 Step on the side of the tire opposite to the valve to force the first bead into the wheel well.
3.5 Hold one of the tools in place with your foot and pry with the second tool, to force the bead up over the wheel flange.
3.6 Continue prying around the tire to work the first bead off of the wheel. Leave the second bead in the wheel well.
4.1 Stand the wheel and tire assembly upright, with the valve stem near the top.
4.2 Lubricate the second bead and wheel.
4.3 Insert the straight end of the tool between the tire bead and the back wheel flange, hooking the tool over the second flange. See Fig. 5.
4.4 Lean the tire assembly toward the tool and use a rocking or bouncing action to pry the wheel out of the tire.
- Clean and inspect all parts. For instructions, refer to Section 40.00, Subjects 130 and 140 of the New Cascadia Workshop Manual.
Verified Tire Destruction
- Drill a 1.0″ +/- 0.25″ diameter hole into the sidewall of the tire as shown in Fig. 9.
- 1.0″ +/- 0.25″ diameter hole drilled into sidewall.
- Drill another hole of the same diameter 180 degrees away from the first hole, on the same side of the tire.
See Fig. 10.
IMPORTANT: The DOT Tire Identification Number (TIN) must be included in the โRepair Detailsโ section of the recall claim; failing to do so will result in an invalid claim.
Mounting Tubeless Tires
Five-Degree Full Drop Center
WARNING

An incorrectly mounted tire can burst, which could cause personal injury and equipment damage.
To mount tubeless tires on 5-degree full drop center rims, regular or safety type, follow the same procedures used to mount tubeless automobile tires.
Fifteen-Degree Tapered Drop Center
- Remove the old valve stem, and install a new valve stem in the wheel.
1.1 Place the valve stem, with a rubber washer, through the valve hole from the tire side of the wheel.
1.2 Screw the valve nut onto the stem from the opposite side. Make sure the rubber bushing and metal collar or nut are centered and fit snugly in the valve hole. See Fig. 11.
1.3 Tighten the nut securely.
2.1 Place the wheel on a wooden floor or rubber mat with the wide side down.
2.2 Using a brush or swab, lubricate both bead seats (flanges) of the wheel, and both tire beads, with an approved lubricant. Do not let excess lubricant run inside the tire.
Apply enough lubricant to enable correct bead seating and to make mounting easier.
3.1 Lay the tire on the wheel. If there is a balance mark on the tire, align the mark with the valve stem.
3.2 Push one area of the lower bead over the flange and into the wheel well.
3.3 Using the straight end of the tire tool, with the stop resting on the wheel flange, work small sections until the remaining bead slips into the wheel. See Fig. 10.
4.1 Start the upper tire bead over the wheel flange and into the wheel well by standing on the tire. If necessary, push a section of the bead into the wheel well and anchor it by attaching Vise-Gripยฎ pliers to the wheel flange with the snub side toward the tire.
4.2 Using the spoon end of the tire iron, and with the stop toward the wheel, work around the bead. See Fig. 11. Work small sections, until the bead slips over the flange and into the wheel well.
4.3 If necessary, insert a second tire iron and lubricate the last 8 inches (20 cm) of the bead again.
IMPORTANT: Inflate tires immediately after mounting, before the tire lubricant dries. Once the lubricant dries, bead positioning is not possible, even with increased inflation pressure.
Tire Inflation
- Check all parts to make sure they are correctly seated prior to inflation.
WARNING
During initial tire inflation, there is the possibility of an explosion of the assembly. Observe the following safety rules to reduce the possibility of serious physical injury in the event of an explosion.
- Inflate tires in a safety cage or an approved portable restraining device.
- Always use a clip-on chuck with an inline valve and gauge.
- Make sure the inflation hose is long enough to permit standing to the side of the tire during inflation.
- Never sit on, or stand in front of an assembly that is being inflated.
- Place the tire in a safety cage, or an approved portable restraining device. See Fig. 12.
IMPORTANT: Water in the tire can cause ply separation. During tire inflation, air tank reservoirs and lines must be dry. Use well-maintained air line moisture traps, and service them regularly.
- Inflate the tire 10 psi (69 kPa).
- Check the parts for correct seating. If the seating is not correct, completely deflate the tire and correct the problem. Never attempt to seat rings or other parts by hammering on an inflated or partially inflated tire.
IMPORTANT: Due to the different flex characteristics of radial sidewalls, it may be necessary to use an inflation aid, such as the following, to help seat tubeless tire beads:
- Metal rings, which use a blast of compressed air to seat the beads.
- Rubber rings, which seal between the tire bead and rim, allowing the bead to move out and seat correctly. A well-lubricated, heavy-duty bicycle tube can be used to help seal between the tire bead and rim.
- Continue to inflate the tire to the recommended pressure. Refer to Group 40 of the New Cascadia Workshop Manual for correct cold-inflation pressures.
- Michelin
Tire Corporation recommends an initial pressure of 90 to 100 psi (620 to 690 kPa) for this step to correctly seat the tire beads.
- The position of the beads, flap, and tube with 4 to 5 psi (28 to 35 kPa) pressure is shown in Fig. 13. The tube is fully rounded-out within the tire, but there isnโt enough pressure to move the beads on wide-base rims.
- Michelin
- Depending on the tire size and rim condition, from 20 to 40 psi (140 to 275 kPa) pressure is needed to push the beads onto the bead seat. See Fig. 14.

Inflating tube-type tires incorrectly can crack or tear the edge or inside of the valve base. Once seated, the tube can stretch only in the rim area. Because resistance to stretch is greatest at the valve base, there is often enough tension to break the tube at the edge of the valve base or in the valve base.
- After the initial inflation, completely deflate the tire by removing the valve core. This ensures correct bead seating, and prevents buckling or overstretching the tube in tube-type tires.
WARNING
Inflate tires to the specified pressure. Tire underinflation or overinflation will damage wheels and tires, and could result in a blowout, which could cause personal injury and property damage.
- Driving on overinflated tires weakens the cords by reducing their ability to absorb road shocks, and increases the danger of cuts, snags, and punctures.
- Overinflation overstresses and damages the rims.
- Driving on underinflated tires generates excessive heat, which weakens the tire body and reduces tire strength.
NOTICE
Use tires of the same size, type, and capacity to carry the load at the recommended cold pressure. Attempting to increase the load capacity of a tire by overinflation will damage the tire assembly.
- Inflate the tire to the recommended cold inflation pressure. Refer to Group 40 of the New Cascadia Workshop Manual for correct cold-inflation pressures.
- Install the valve cap and tighten finger-tight.
- Check the inflation pressure 24 hours after mounting new tires.
NOTE: Testing a vehicle on a dynamometer can cause severe tire damage. Because manufacturers differ in their recommendations for preventing tire damage, refer to the manufacturerโs instructions for testing a vehicle on a dynamometer.
Wheel Installation
- Inspect the wheel and tire assembly. For instructions, refer to Section 40.00, Subjects 130 and 140 of the New Cascadia Workshop Manual. Replace any damaged wheels and tires. Refer to tire matching and mixing requirements in Section 40.00, Subject 50 of the New Cascadia Workshop Manual.
- Clean the hub and wheel mounting surfaces, the fasteners, and between the rims of dual wheels.
- Make sure the tire is correctly inflated. For instructions, refer to Section 40.00, Subject 150 of the New Cascadia Workshop Manual.
- Apply a few drops of light engine oil to the wheel studs, the area between the body and the flange of each nut, and the hub pilot. Wipe off any excess oil. See Fig. 15 for lubrication of the two-piece flange nuts.
IMPORTANT: Freightliner “Turbo” wheel assemblies require directional mounting, as shown in Fig. 16.
IMPORTANT: Before installing the wheels, make sure the drum is in position on the raised step of the pilot pad. One of the hub pilot pads must be centered at the top. To help keep the drum in place, it may be necessary to adjust the brakes before installing the wheels.
- Turn the hub until one hub-pilot pad is in the top-center position.
Keep the wheel square to the hub during installation. The wheel center hole and hub pilot have close tolerances. If the wheel is not kept square to the hub, it could bind during installation and damage the stud threads or hub-pilot pads.
IMPORTANT: Install the wheel assembly so that the balance weight(s) on the wheel are opposite the balance weight(s) on the brake drum.
- Using a jack or wheel-and-tire dolly, install the wheel assembly (inner wheel on a dual wheel assembly) on the hub. Make sure the wheel is square to the hub. Be careful not to damage the threads or hub-pilot pads.
- On a dual wheel assembly, repeat the previous step to mount the outer wheel against the inner wheel.
Before placing the outer wheel assembly on the hub, rotate the wheel as needed until the balance weight(s) on the wheel are 180 degrees from the weight(s) on the brake drum. If this causes the valve stems to be in the same wheel hole, mount the outer wheel so that the outer wheel balance weight(s) are on the same side as the brake drum balance weight(s).
The wheel nuts have right-hand metric threads. Do not try to install a similar size SAE nut on a stud, or the stud and nut will be damaged.
- Install and hand-tighten the two-piece flange nuts on the top and bottom studs.
- Check that the wheel is correctly seated against the hub, and on the hub-pilot pads.
- Install and hand-tighten the remaining nuts.
Use the specified torque values and follow the correct tightening sequence. Too little wheel nut torque can cause wheel shimmy, wheel damage, stud breakage, and extreme tire tread wear. Too much wheel nut torque can break studs, damage threads, and crack discs in the stud hole area.
- Tighten the nuts in two stages. Follow the sequence in Fig. 17.
- Tighten the flange nuts initially to 50 to 100 lbfยทft (68 to 136 Nยทm).
- Tighten the flange nuts to 450 to 500 lbยทft (610 to 678 Nยทm).
IMPORTANT: If the wheel nuts cannot be tightened to minimum torque values, the studs could be turning in the hub flange, having lost their locking ability. In this situation, the wheel hub assembly is damaged and must be replaced with a new assembly. Failure to reach minimum torque values could also be caused by stripped threads on the wheel studs or wheel nuts.
WARNING
Always replace damaged parts with new parts. Failure to replace damaged parts could result in the loss of a wheel or loss of vehicle control, which could cause personal injury or property damage.
- Replace any damaged parts. For instructions to replace front-axle parts, refer to Section 33.01, and for rear-axle parts, refer to Section 35.01 of the New Cascadia Workshop Manual.
- Remove the safety stands, lower the vehicle, and remove the chocks.
IMPORTANT: The wheel nuts seat during vehicle operation. As a result, it is necessary to periodically tighten the nuts to the specified torque.
- After operating the vehicle for 50 to 100 miles (80 to 160 km), tighten the wheel nuts again to the original specification, following the tightening sequence in Fig. 17.
- Tighten the wheel nuts every 50,000 miles (80 000 km) thereafter.
Aerodynamic Bumper Installation
- Insert the bumper tabs into the bumper casting slots and position the bumper.
- Open the hood.
- On the mounting points on each side of the bumper, install and hand-tighten the two aft-facing capscrews first, then the capscrews on the side. If equipped, install the foglight wiring brackets.
- Tighten the bumper capscrews 20 lbfยทft (27 Nยทm).
- If equipped, install the towhook bracket and the towhooks. Tighten the long capscrew 20 lbfยทft (27 Nยทm).
- As needed, install the bulbs and connect all electrical connectors.
- Clean a spot on the base label (Form WAR259). Write the recall number, FL872, on a completion sticker (Form WAR260), and attach it to the base label to indicate this recall has been completed.

Subject: Cascadia Bridgestone Steer Tire Failures
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its Freightliner
Trucks Division, has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists on specific Model Year 2020-2022 Freightliner
Cascadia model vehicles, manufactured February 5, 2019, through January 6, 2021, e quipped with Bridgestone
R284, R268, or R283S ECOPIA steer axle tires, in conjunction with a specific air dam.
On certain trucks, the tread on the steer axle tires could separate while driving. If this happens, the tire could fail and suddenly lose air pressure. A tire failure could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with Bridgestone R284, R268, or R283S ECOPIA tires, in conjunction with a specific air dam.
The Bridgestone steer tires will be replaced, as necessary. DTNA recommends that drivers should pay special attention to tire inflation, loading, and make extra inspections of the tire tread and sidewall before and after each trip. Repairs will be performed by Daimler Trucks
North America authorized service facilities.

In an abundance of caution, Daimler Trucks North America is removing certain Bridgestone
steer tires from specific Cascadia sleeper configurations that are inprocess at the assembly plants. DTNA is replacing the Bridgestone
tires with equivalent steer tires from a different tire manufacturer. The steer tire change to in-process vehicles is a preventive measure and is in response to the recent recall announcement concerning Bridgestone
steer tires on specific Cascadia sleeper configurations. Vehicles subject to the in-process steer tire change will not be a part of the aforementioned recall.
In cases of unfavorable pricing impact, the vehicles will be price-protected to the price of the original tires on the Truck Sales Order.
The following Frequently Asked Questions (FAQโs) and corresponding answers are provided to explain and clarify the recall.
Q. Why is Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) conducting this recall?
Answer: Reports of Bridgestone steer tire tread separation and rapid air pressure loss during operation. There are multiple possible factors that might contribute to tire-damaging, elevated wheel compartment temperature including, road speed, under inflation, overloading of tire, application usage, high ambient temperature and aerodynamic components, the failures appear limited to the Bridgestone
tires.
Q. What specific trucks and tires are included in this recall?
Answer: MY 2020-2022 Cascadia sleeper trucks, Manufacture Dates 02/02/2019 through 01-08-2021 with Bridgestone R284, R268, or R283S ECOPIA steer axle tires in conjunction with the low ground clearance bumper.

- If your customerโs vehicle is within the scope of the recall and the customer replaced their tires with the same model Bridgestone
tire that is referenced in this recall, DTNA will replace those tires.
- If your customerโs vehicle is within the scope of the recall and the customer has replaced their tires with a replacement tire not on the recall list, an inspection SRT should be filed to complete the recall; no other work is necessary.

Chronology of defect: In or about August 2020, DTNA was made aware of several steer tire failures. DTNA began investigating and during the investigation, DTNA received additional failure reports mid through late September 2020, prompting meetings and discussions with the supplier, Bridgestone, to better understand the failures. Between October 2020 through December 2020, DTNA engaged the tire supplier several times, field personnel visited customers, and conducted additional testing to understand the nature of the issue, the safety consequences, and the possible population of affected vehicles. DTNA Compliance openly and transparently discussed this topic with NHTSAโs Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) during this time period. DTNAโs best, good-faith understanding throughout this time period was that the issue was under-inflation, based upon the supplierโs representations. As DTNA continued to investigate the issue, new reports of failures were received. While no root cause has been determined due to multiple, heat-contributing factors to the tire and out of an abundance of caution, on January 8, 2021, DTNA reasonably decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall. On January 12, 2021, DTNA added an additional tire model to the population to be included in the recall.

In an abundance of caution, Daimler Trucks North America is removing certain
Bridgestone steer tires from specific Cascadia sleeper configurations that are inprocess
at the assembly plants. DTNA is replacing the Bridgestone tires with
equivalent steer tires from a different tire manufacturer. The steer tire change to
in-process vehicles is a preventive measure and is in response to the recent recall
announcement concerning Bridgestone steer tires on specific Cascadia sleeper
configurations. Vehicles subject to the in-process steer tire change will not be a
part of the aforementioned recall.
In cases of unfavorable pricing impact, the vehicles will be price-protected to the
price of the original tires on the Truck Sales Order.

Q. Why is Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) recalling certain front steer Bridgestone
tires?
Answer: Reports of Bridgestone steer tire tread separation and rapid air pressure loss
during operation, possibly caused by high temperatures in the wheel well. Although there are
multiple possible factors that might contribute to tire-damaging, elevated wheel compartment
temperature including, road speed, under inflation, overloading of tire, application usage, high
ambient temperature and aerodynamic components, the failures appear limited to the
Bridgestone tires.

Answer: DTNA understands that many customers will work directly with tire
manufactures, or have tires in stock. A sublet repair can be filed on behalf of the
customer at the invoice amount
Q. What if my customer already replaced their tires?
Answer:
o If your customer replaced their tires with the same model Bridgestone tire
that is being recalled, DTNA will replace those tires to remove the defect.
o If your customer replaced their tires with a replacement tire, not on the
defect list, an inspection SRT should be filed to complete the recall; no
other work is necessary.
Q. What if my customer had purchased their vehicle new with steer tires other
than the recalled steer tires, but replaced their steer tires with one of the recalled
tires?
Answer: The customer should work directly with Bridgestone, as they
would not be included in this recall.

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA), en nombre de su divisiรณn Camiones Freightliner, ha decidido que

miรฉrcoles, 6 de enero de 2021 equipado con neumรกticos Bridgestone
R284, R268 o R283S ECOPIA para eje de direcciรณn, junto
con un amortiguador de aire especรญfico.
Inspecciรณn de neumรกticos
1. Corrobore la etiqueta base (Formulario WAR259) para verificar que se haya fijado la etiqueta de terminaciรณn
de la FL872 (Formulario WAR260) para indicar que se realizรณ el trabajo. La etiqueta base se sitรบa,
por lo general, en la puerta del pasajero, a 12 pulgadas (30 cm) debajo de la cerradura de la puerta. Si hay
una etiqueta adhesiva de terminaciรณn, no es necesario el trabajo. Si no hay una etiqueta de terminaciรณn,
continรบe con el siguiente paso.
2. Estacione el vehรญculo, apague el motor y accione los frenos de estacionamiento. Bloquee las ruedas.
3. Inspeccione los neumรกticos del eje de direcciรณn delantero.
โข Si los dos neumรกticos del eje de direcciรณn delantero ya han sido reemplazadas y no son llantas
Bridgestone, presente una reclamaciรณn de inspecciรณn FL872.
โข Si alguno de los neumรกticos es Bridgestone, reemplace ambos neumรกticos. Los dos neumรกticos de
repuesto deben ser un juego del mismo fabricante. Siga los procedimientos a continuaciรณn.
Extracciรณn del parachoques aerodinรกmico
1. Desconecte todos los conectores elรฉctricos, como las luces antiniebla, del parachoques.
2. Si estรก equipado, retire el soporte del gancho de remolque y los ganchos de remolque.
3. Retire los soportes del cableado de la luz antiniebla de los soportes de montaje del parachoques.

Extracciรณn de ruedas
1. Levante el eje delantero y coloque soportes de seguridad debajo del eje fontal.
2. Gire la rueda hasta que una almohadilla piloto del cubo estรฉ en la posiciรณn central superior.
3. Coloque un gato o una plataforma rodante para ruedas y neumรกticos debajo del conjunto de la rueda que
se estรก reparando.
NOTICE
Mantenga la rueda en escuadra con el cubo durante la extracciรณn. El orificio central de la rueda y el piloto
del cubo tienen tolerancias estrechas. Si la rueda no se mantiene en escuadra con el cubo, podrรญa
atascarse durante la extracciรณn y daรฑar las roscas de los espรกrragos o las almohadillas piloto del cubo.
IMPORTANTE: A ambos lados del vehรญculo, las tuercas con brida de dos piezas tienen roscas a la derecha.
4. Dejando una tuerca superior y una inferior para mantener la rueda recta, retire las otras ocho tuercas con
brida de dos piezas de la rueda; luego retire las tuercas superior e inferior.

Desmontaje de neumรกticos sin cรกmara

WARNING
Lea la informaciรณn en Secciรณn 40.00, Tema 110 del Manual de taller New Cascadia. No seguir las precauciones,
antes y durante el desmontaje y montaje de los neumรกticos, podrรญa causar daรฑos en los
neumรกticos durante el servicio o el uso. Un neumรกtico montado incorrectamente puede explotar y
causar lesiones personales y daรฑos al equipo.
Para desmontar neumรกticos sin cรกmara en llantas con centro de caรญda total de 5 grados, tipo normal o de
seguridad, siga los mismos procedimientos que se utilizan para desmontar neumรกticos de automรณviles sin
cรกmara.
Centro de caรญda cรณnico de quince grados
1. Desinfle el neumรกtico que se estรก reparando quitando el nรบcleo de la vรกlvula.
2. Afloje ambos talones de la rueda.
2.1 Coloque la rueda sobre un piso de madera o una alfombra de goma con el lado ancho hacia arriba.
2.2 Conduzca el extremo plano de la herramienta para neumรกticos entre el talรณn del neumรกtico y la
pestaรฑa de la rueda.
2.3 Sosteniendo la herramienta en posiciรณn vertical, golpee el cuello con un martillo para liberar el talรณn
del neumรกtico de la rueda. Vea la Figura 3.
2.4 Repita a intervalos de 20 cm (8 pulgadas) alrededor de la brida, hasta que el talรณn estรฉ libre de la
rueda.
2.5 Dรฉ la vuelta a la rueda y repita los subpasos anteriores para aflojar el segundo talรณn de la rueda.
3. Retire un talรณn de la rueda.
3.1 Asegรบrese de que el lado ancho de la rueda estรฉ hacia abajo.
3.2 Lubrique el talรณn del neumรกtico y la rueda.

4. Retire la rueda del neumรกtico.
4.1 Coloque el conjunto de rueda y neumรกtico en posiciรณn vertical, con el vรกstago de la vรกlvula cerca de
la parte superior.
4.2 Lubrique el segundo talรณn y la rueda.
4.3 Inserte el extremo recto de la herramienta entre el talรณn del neumรกtico y la pestaรฑa de la rueda

4.4 Incline el conjunto de la llanta hacia la herramienta y use una acciรณn de balanceo o rebote para

antes y durante el desmontaje y montaje de los neumรกticos, podrรญa causar daรฑos en los
neumรกticos durante el servicio o el uso. Un neumรกtico montado incorrectamente puede explotar y
causar lesiones personales y daรฑos al equipo.
Para montar neumรกticos sin cรกmara en llantas con centro de caรญda total de 5 grados, tipo normal o de
seguridad, siga los mismos procedimientos que se utilizan para montar neumรกticos de automรณviles sin cรกmara.
Centro de caรญda cรณnico de quince grados
1. Retire el vรกstago de vรกlvula antiguo e instale un vรกstago de vรกlvula nuevo en la rueda.
1.1 Coloque el vรกstago de vรกlvula, con una arandela de goma, a travรฉs del orificio de la vรกlvula desde el
lado del neumรกtico de la rueda.
1.2 Atornille la tuerca de la vรกlvula en el vรกstago desde el lado opuesto. Asegรบrese de que el buje de
goma y el collar o la tuerca de metal estรฉn centrados y encajen perfectamente en el orificio de la
vรกlvula. Vea la Figura 9.

3. Introduzca bien el talรณn inferior del neumรกtico en la rueda.
3.1 Coloque el neumรกtico sobre la rueda. Si hay una marca de balanceo en la llanta, alinee la marca
con el vรกstago de la vรกlvula.
3.2 Empuje bien un รกrea del talรณn inferior sobre la brida y dentro del hueco de la rueda.
3.3 Usando el extremo recto de la herramienta para neumรกticos, con el tope apoyado en la pestaรฑa de
la rueda, trabaje secciones pequeรฑas hasta que el talรณn restante se deslice dentro de la rueda. Vea
la Figura 10.
4. Introduzca bien el talรณn superior del neumรกtico en la rueda.

4.1 Empiece pasando el talรณn superior del neumรกtico sobre la pestaรฑa de la rueda y en el hueco de la
rueda parรกndose sobre el neumรกtico. Si es necesario, empuje una secciรณn del talรณn en el hueco de
la rueda y fรญjela colocando unos alicates Vise-Gripยฎ en la pestaรฑa de la rueda con el lado chato hacia
el neumรกtico.
4.2 Usando el extremo de la cuchara del hierro para neumรกtico y con el tope hacia la rueda, trabaje alrededor
del talรณn. Vea la Figura 11. Trabaje secciones pequeรฑas, hasta que el talรณn se deslice sobre
la pestaรฑa y entre en el hueco de la rueda.
4.3 Si es necesario, inserte un segundo hierro para neumรกtico y vuelva a lubricar las รบltimas 8 pulgadas
(20 cm) del talรณn.
IMPORTANTE: Infle los neumรกticos inmediatamente despuรฉs del montaje, antes de que se seque el lubricante
para neumรกticos. Una vez que el lubricante se seca, no es posible colocar el talรณn, incluso con una mayor
presiรณn de inflado.
Inflado de neumรกticos
1. Revise todas las piezas para asegurarse de que estรฉn colocadas correctamente antes del inlado.
WARNING

IMPORTANTE: Agua en el neumรกtico puede provocar la separaciรณn de las capas. Durante el inflado de los
neumรกticos, los depรณsitos y las lรญneas de los tanques de aire deben estar secos. Utilice trampas de humedad
de la lรญnea de aire en buen estado y mantรฉngalas en servicio con regularidad.
3. Infle el neumรกtico a 10 psi (69 kPa).
4. Compruebe que las piezas estรฉn correctamente asentadas. Si el asiento no es correcto, desinfle completamente
el neumรกtico y corrija el problema. Nunca intente asentar anillos u otras piezas golpeando una llanta
inflada o parcialmente inflada.
IMPORTANTE: Debido a las diferentes caracterรญsticas de flexiรณn de las paredes laterales radiales, puede ser
necesario utilizar una ayuda de inflado, como la siguiente, para ayudar a asentar los talones de los neumรกticos

โข Michelin Tire Corporation recomienda una presiรณn inicial de 90 a 100 psi (620 a 690 kPa) para que
este paso asiente correctamente los talones del neumรกtico.
โข La posiciรณn de los talones, la aleta y el tubo con una presiรณn de 4 a 5 psi (28 a 35 kPa) se muestra
en la Figura 13. El tubo estรก redondeado completamente dentro del neumรกtico, pero no hay suficiente

โข Conducir con neumรกticos demasiado inflados debilita cables al reducir su capacidad para absorber los

โข Conducir con neumรกticos con inflado insuficiente genera un calor excesivo, que debilita el cuerpo del

NOTICE
Utilice neumรกticos del mismo tamaรฑo, tipo y capacidad para transportar la carga a la presiรณn en frรญo recomendada.
Si intenta aumentar la capacidad de carga de una llanta inflando demasiado, daรฑarรก el conjunto
del neumรกtico.
7. Infle el neumรกtico a la presiรณn de inflado en frรญo recomendada. Consulte la Grupo 40 del Manual de taller
New Cascadia para ver las presiones de inflado en frรญo correctas.
8. Instale la tapa de la vรกlvula y apriete a mano.
9. Compruebe la presiรณn de inflado 24 horas despuรฉs de montar neumรกticos nuevos.
NOTA: Probar un vehรญculo en un dinamรณmetro puede causar graves daรฑos a los neumรกticos. Debido a que los
fabricantes difieren en sus recomendaciones para prevenir daรฑos en los neumรกticos, consulte las instrucciones
del fabricante para probar un vehรญculo en un dinamรณmetro.
Instalaciรณn de ruedas

IMPORTANTE: Instale el conjunto de la rueda de modo que los contrapesos de la rueda estรฉn opuestos a los
contrapesos del tambor de freno.
6. Con un gato o una plataforma rodante para ruedas y neumรกticos, instale el conjunto de la rueda (rueda
interior en un conjunto de rueda doble) en el cubo. Asegรบrese de que la rueda estรฉ en escuadra con el
cubo. Tenga cuidado de no daรฑar las roscas o las almohadillas del piloto del cubo.
6.1 Antes de colocar el conjunto de la rueda en el cubo, gire la rueda segรบn sea necesario hasta que los
contrapesos de la rueda estรฉn a 180 grados de los pesos del tambor de freno.

11. Apriete las tuercas en dos etapas. Siga la secuencia en Figura 17.
11.1 Apriete las tuercas con brida inicialmente a 50 – 100 lbfยทft (68 – 136 Nยทm).
11.2 Apriete las tuercas con brida a 450 – 500 lbยทft (610 – 678 Nยทm).
IMPORTANTE: Si las tuercas de las ruedas no se pueden apretar a los valores mรญnimos de torque, los espรกrragos
podrรญan estar girando en la brida del cubo, habiendo perdido su capacidad de bloqueo. En esta situaciรณn,
el conjunto del cubo de la rueda estรก daรฑado y debe reemplazarse por un conjunto nuevo. Si no se alcanzan
los valores mรญnimos de par de torsiรณn, las roscas de los pernos o tuercas de las ruedas se pueden perder.
WARNING
Reemplace siempre las piezas daรฑadas por piezas nuevas. Si no reemplaza las piezas daรฑadas se podrรญa
producir la pรฉrdida de una rueda o la pรฉrdida del control del vehรญculo, lo que podrรญa causar lesiones
personales o daรฑos a la propiedad.
12. Reemplace cualquier pieza daรฑada. Para obtener instrucciones para reemplazar las piezas del eje
delantero, consulte Secciรณn 33.01, y para piezas del eje trasero, consulte Secciรณn 35.01 del Manual de
taller New Cascadia.
13. Quite los soportes de seguridad, baje el vehรญculo y retire los calces.
IMPORTANTE: Las tuercas de las ruedas se asientan durante la operaciรณn del vehรญculo. Como resultado, es
necesario apretar periรณdicamente las tuercas al par especificado.

2. Abra el capรณ.
3. En los puntos de montaje a cada lado del parachoques, instale y apriete a mano los dos tornillos de
cabeza hexagonal orientados hacia atrรกs primero y luego los tornillos de cabeza hexagonal laterales. Si
estรก equipado, instale los soportes de cableado de la luz antiniebla.
4. Ajuste los tornillos de cabeza hexagonal del parachoques a 20 lbfยทft (27 Nยทm).
5. Si estรก equipado, instale el soporte del gancho de remolque y los ganchos de remolque. Ajuste los tornillos
de cabeza hexagonal largos a 20 lbfยทft (27 Nยทm).
6. Segรบn sea necesario, instale las bombillas y conecte todos los conectores elรฉctricos.

Au nom de sa division Freightliner Trucks, Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) a dรฉterminรฉ quโune

Remarque : Ce rappel volontaire ne concerne que les camions รฉquipรฉs de pneus Bridgestone ECOPIA R284,
R268 ou R283S et dโun type particulier de jupe avant.

Inspection des pneus
1. Vรฉrifiez lโรฉtiquette de base (formulaire WAR259) pour voir si elle comporte un autocollant de parachรจvement
(formulaire WAR260) pour le rappel FL872, ce qui indiquerait que le travail a รฉtรฉ effectuรฉ. Lโรฉtiquette
de base est gรฉnรฉralement placรฉe sur la portiรจre du cรดtรฉ passager, ร environ 30 cm (12 po) en dessous du
loquet de portiรจre. Si un autocollant de parachรจvement est prรฉsent, aucun travail nโest requis. Si aucun autocollant
de parachรจvement nโest prรฉsent, passez ร lโรฉtape suivante.
2. Stationnez le vรฉhicule, arrรชtez le moteur et engagez le frein de stationnement. Calez les roues.
3. Inspectez les pneus de lโessieu directeur avant.
โข Si les deux pneus de lโessieu directeur avant ont dรฉjร รฉtรฉ remplacรฉs et ne sont pas des pneus
Bridgestone, dรฉposez une demande dโindemnisation dโinspection FL872.

4. En laissant un รฉcrou dans la partie supรฉrieure et un รฉcrou dans la partie infรฉrieure pour maintenir la roue

1. Dรฉgonflez le pneu ร vรฉrifier en enlevant lโobus de la valve.
2. Desserrez les deux talons de pneu.
2.1 Placez la roue sur un plancher en bois ou un tapis en caoutchouc avec le cรดtรฉ large de la jante orientรฉ
vers le haut.
2.2 Insรฉrez lโextrรฉmitรฉ plate du dรฉmonte-pneu entre le talon du pneu et le rebord de roue.
2.3 Tout en tenant le dรฉmonte-pneu en position verticale, martelez le cou pour libรฉrer le talon du pneu de
la roue. Reportez-vous ร la Figure 3.
2.4 Rรฉpรฉtez ร des intervalles de 20 cm (8 po) autour du rebord, jusquโร ce que le talon soit totalement
dรฉgagรฉ de la jante.
2.5 Retournez la roue et rรฉpรฉtez les sous-รฉtapes prรฉcรฉdentes pour desserrer le deuxiรจme talon de pneu
de la jante.
3. Retirez un des talons de roue.
3.1 Assurez-vous que le cรดtรฉ large de la jante est orientรฉ vers le bas.
3.2 Lubrifiez le talon du pneu et la jante.

3.6 Continuez ร faire levier autour du pneu pour dรฉgager le premier talon de la roue. Laissez le deuxiรจme
talon de pneu dans le passage de roue.
4. Retirez la jante du pneu.
4.1 Mettez lโensemble jante et pneu en position verticale, avec le corps de valve orientรฉ vers le haut.
4.2 Lubrifiez le deuxiรจme talon et la jante.
4.3 Insรฉrez lโextrรฉmitรฉ droite du dรฉmonte-pneu entre le talon du pneu et lโarriรจre du rebord de la roue, en
lโaccrochant par-dessus le deuxiรจme rebord. Reportez-vous ร la Figure 5.
4.4 Inclinez lโensemble du pneu vers lโoutil, puis utilisez un mouvement de balancier pour dรฉgager la
jante du pneu.

2. Lubrifiez les logements des talons sur la jante et les deux talons de pneu.
2.1 Placez la roue sur un plancher en bois ou un tapis en caoutchouc avec le cรดtรฉ large de la jante orientรฉ
vers le bas.
2.2 Utilisez une brosse ou un coton-tige pour lubrifier les deux logements de talon de la jante et les deux
talons du pneu, avec un lubrifiant approuvรฉ. Ne laissez pas dโexcรจs de lubrifiant pรฉnรฉtrer dans le
pneu.
Appliquez suffisamment de lubrifiant pour que le talon soit correctement assis et pour faciliter le montage.
3. Insรฉrez le talon infรฉrieur du pneu dans le passage de roue.
3.1 Posez le pneu sur la jante. Si une marque dโรฉquilibre est prรฉsente sur le pneu, alignez la marque
avec le corps de valve.
3.2 Poussez une zone du talon infรฉrieur sur le rebord et dans le passage de roue.
3.3 Utilisez lโextrรฉmitรฉ droite du dรฉmonte-pneu (avec la butรฉe reposant sur le rebord de la roue), puis
travaillez par petits incrรฉments jusquโร ce que le reste du talon se glisse dans la roue. Reportez-vous
ร la Figure 10.

4. Insรฉrez le talon supรฉrieur du pneu dans le passage de roue.
4.1 Commencez par faire passer le talon de pneu supรฉrieur par-dessus le rebord de la jante dans le passage
de roue en vous mettant debout sur le pneu. Si nรฉcessaire, poussez une section du talon dans
le passage de roue, puis fixez-la en attachant une pince Vise-GripMD sur le rebord de jante (le cรดtรฉ
rabattu vers le pneu).
4.2 Utilisez lโextrรฉmitรฉ ronde du dรฉmonte-pneu, avec la butรฉe vers la jante, pour travailler autour du
talon. Reportez-vous ร la Figure 11. Procรฉdez par petits incrรฉments jusquโร ce que le talon glisse
par-dessus le rebord dans le passage de roue.
4.3 Si nรฉcessaire, insรฉrez un deuxiรจme dรฉmonte-pneu et lubrifiez les derniers 20 cm (8 po) du talon.
IMPORTANT : Gonflez les pneus immรฉdiatement aprรจs leur montage, avant que le lubrifiant ne sรจche. Lorsque
le lubrifiant a sรฉchรฉ, il est impossible de positionner le talon mรชme en augmentant la pression de gonflage.
Gonflage des pneus
1. Vรฉrifiez toutes les piรจces pour vous assurer quโelles sont correctement logรฉes et prรชtes pour le gonflage du
pneu.
WARNING
Pendant le premier gonflage, lโensemble pourrait exploser. Suivre les rรจgles de sรฉcuritรฉ ci-dessous pour
rรฉduire la possibilitรฉ de blessures graves en cas dโexplosion.
โข Gonflez les pneus dans une cage de sรฉcuritรฉ ou dans un dispositif de retenue approuvรฉ.
โข Utilisez toujours un mandrin adaptable avec une soupape en ligne et une jauge de pression.
โข Assurez-vous que le tuyau de gonflage est suffisamment long pour permettre de se placer sur le cรดtรฉ du
pneu alors quโil est gonflรฉ.
โข Ne vous asseyez jamais ou ne vous tenez jamais devant un ensemble roue en cours de gonflage.

IMPORTANT : La prรฉsence dโeau dans un pneu pourrait causer une sรฉparation du pli. Pendant le gonflage, les
rรฉservoirs dโair et les lignes doivent รชtre secs. Utilisez des pots de condensation bien entretenus et les vรฉrifier
rรฉguliรจrement.
3. Gonflez les pneus ร 69 kPa (10 psi).
4. Vรฉrifiez que les piรจces fonctionnent correctement. Si le logement est incorrect, dรฉgonflez complรจtement le
pneu et corrigez le problรจme. Ne tentez jamais de loger des cales ou dโautres piรจces en frappant au marteau
sur un pneu complรจtement ou partiellement gonflรฉ.
IMPORTANT : En raison des diffรฉrentes caractรฉristiques de flexion des flancs radiaux, il peut รชtre nรฉcessaire
dโutiliser une aide au gonflage, telle que la suivante, pour aider ร loger les talons dโun pneu sans chambre ร air
:
โข des anneaux mรฉtalliques, qui utilisent un jet dโair comprimรฉ pour loger les talons.
โข Des cales en caoutchouc, qui le logent hermรฉtiquement entre le pneu et la jante et permettent au talon
de sortir et de se loger correctement. Un tube de bicyclette robuste et bien lubrifiรฉ peut รชtre utilisรฉ pour
aider ร rendre รฉtanche lโinterface entre le talon du pneu et la jante.
5. Continuez ร gonfler le pneu jusquโร la pression recommandรฉe. Reportez-vous ร la groupe 40 du manuel
dโatelier du vรฉhicule (en anglais) pour les pressions de gonflage ร froid correctes.
โข Michelin Tire Corporation recommande une pression initiale de 620 ร 690 kPa (90 ร 100 psi) pour
cette รฉtape, afin de positionner correctement les talons du pneu.
โข La position des talons, du rabat et de la chambre ร air avec une pression de 28 ร 35 kPa (4 ร 5 psi)
est illustrรฉe sur la Figure 13. La chambre ร air est entiรจrement dรฉpliรฉe ร lโintรฉrieur du pneu, mais il
nโy a pas suffisamment de pression pour dรฉplacer les talons sur les jantes ร base large.

Un gonflage incorrect de pneus ร chambre ร air peut fissurer ou dรฉchirer le bord ou lโintรฉrieur de la
base de la valve. Une fois la chambre ร air en place, elle ne peut sโรฉtirer que dans la zone de la jante.
La rรฉsistance ร lโรฉtirement รฉtant la plus รฉlevรฉe au niveau de la base de la valve, la tension est souvent

6. Aprรจs le gonflage initial, dรฉgonflez complรจtement le pneu en retirant lโobus de la valve. Cela garantit une
assise correcte du talon et empรชche le flambage ou lโรฉtirement excessif de la chambre ร air dans les pneus
de type ร chambre ร air.
WARNING
Gonflez les pneus ร la pression spรฉcifiรฉe. Un sous-gonflage ou un surgonflage pourrait endommager
les roues et les pneus et risquer de provoquer une crevaison, des blessures ou des dommages matรฉriels.
โข Conduire avec des pneus surgonflรฉs affaiblit les cordons en rรฉduisant leur capacitรฉ ร absorber les chocs
de la route et augmente le risque de coupures, dโaccrocs et de crevaisons.
โข Un gonflage excessif sollicite trop les jantes et pourrait les endommager.
โข Conduire sur des pneus sous-gonflรฉs gรฉnรจre une chaleur excessive, qui peut affaiblir le corps du pneu et
rรฉduire sa rรฉsistance.
NOTICE
Utilisez des pneus de mรชme taille, type et capacitรฉ pour supporter la charge ร la pression ร froid recommandรฉe.
Tenter dโaugmenter la capacitรฉ de charge dโun pneu en le surgonflant pourrait endommagera
lโensemble du pneu.
7. Gonflez le pneu ร la pression de gonflage ร froid recommandรฉe. Reportez-vous ร la groupe 40 du manuel
dโatelier du vรฉhicule (en anglais) pour les pressions de gonflage ร froid correctes.
8. Installez le chapeau de valve et serrez ร la main.
9. Vรฉrifiez la pression de gonflage 24 heures aprรจs le montage des pneus neufs.
REMARQUE : Tester un vรฉhicule sur un dynamomรจtre peut endommager gravement les pneus. รtant donnรฉ
que les recommandations des fabricants pour รฉviter dโendommager les pneus diffรจrent, reportez-vous aux instructions
du fabricant de vos pneus pour tester un vรฉhicule sur un dynamomรจtre.
Installation dโune roue
1. Dรฉposez lโensemble pneu et jante. Pour en savoir plus, reportez-vous ร la Section 40.00, sujets 130 et
140 du manuel dโatelier du vรฉhicule (en anglais). Remplacez toute jante ou tout pneu endommagรฉ.
Reportez-vous aux exigences relatives ร lโappariement et au mรฉlange de pneus dans la Section 40.00, sujet
50 du manuel dโatelier du vรฉhicule (en anglais).
2. Nettoyez les surfaces de montage du moyeu et de la jante, ainsi que les fixations et entre les jantes des
roues jumelรฉes.
3. Assurez-vous que le pneu est correctement gonflรฉ. Pour en savoir plus, reportez-vous ร la Section 40.00,
sujet 150 du manuel dโatelier du vรฉhicule (en anglais).
4. Appliquez quelques gouttes dโhuile moteur lรฉgรจre sur les goujons de roue et dans la zone entre le corps et
la collerette de chaque รฉcrou, et le sur lโanneau de centrage du moyeu. Nettoyez tout excรจs dโhuile.
Reportez-vous ร la Figure 15 pour la lubrification des รฉcrous ร embase en deux parties.

6. ร lโaide dโun vรฉrin de levage ou dโun chariot porte-roue, installez lโensemble roue (roue intรฉrieure sur un
ensemble de roues jumelรฉes) sur le moyeu. Assurez-vous que la roue est perpendiculaire au moyeu. Faites
attention ร ne pas endommager les filetages ou les demi-coussinets de centrage du moyeu.
6.1 Avant de placer lโensemble roue sur le moyeu, faites tourner la roue au besoin jusquโร ce que la ou
les masses dโรฉquilibrage de la ou des roues soient ร 180 degrรฉs ร lโopposรฉ de la ou des masses
dโรฉquilibrage du tambour de frein.
6.2 Une fois la roue installรฉe, assurez-vous que le demi-coussinet de centrage du moyeu est toujours
centrรฉ en haut.

7. Sur un ensemble ร roues jumelรฉes, rรฉpรฉtez lโรฉtape prรฉcรฉdente pour monter la roue extรฉrieure contre la
roue intรฉrieure.
Avant de placer lโensemble roue extรฉrieure sur le moyeu, faites tourner la roue au besoin jusquโร ce que la
ou les masses dโรฉquilibrage de la ou des roues soient ร 180 degrรฉs ร lโopposรฉ de la ou des masses
dโรฉquilibrage du tambour de frein. Si cela entraรฎne que deux corps de valve se trouvent dans le mรชme trou
de roue, montez la roue extรฉrieure de maniรจre ร ce que la ou les masses dโรฉquilibrage extรฉrieures soient
du mรชme cรดtรฉ que la ou les masses dโรฉquilibrage du tambour de frein.
NOTICE
Les รฉcrous de roue ont un filetage mรฉtrique ร droite. Nโessayez pas dโinstaller un รฉcrou SAE de taille
similaire sur un goujon, sinon cela endommagerait le goujon et lโรฉcrou.
8. Installez et serrez ร la main les รฉcrous ร embase en deux parties sur les goujons supรฉrieur et infรฉrieur.
9. Vรฉrifier que la roue est correctement placรฉe contre le moyeu et sur les demi-coussinets de centrage du
moyeu.
10. Installez et serrez ร la main les รฉcrous restants.
NOTICE
Respectez les tensions de serrage spรฉcifiรฉes et suivez lโordre de serrage correct. Un couple de serrage
des รฉcrous de roue trop faible peut entraรฎner dandinement des roues directrices, endommager les
roues, causer une rupture des goujons et une usure extrรชme des bandes de roulement. Un couple de
serrage excessif des รฉcrous de roue peut provoquer la rupture des goujons, endommager les filets ou
fissurer les disques dans la zone des orifices des goujons.
11. Serrez les รฉcrous en deux รฉtapes. Suivez la sรฉquence illustrรฉe sur la Figure 17.
11.1 Serrez initialement les รฉcrous ร embase ร un couple entre 68 et 136 Nยทm (entre 50 et 100 lbfยทpi).
11.2 Serrez ensuite les รฉcrous ร embase ร un couple entre 610 et 678 Nยทm (entre 450 et 500 lbfยทpi).

WARNING
Remplacez toujours les piรจces endommagรฉes par des piรจces neuves. Nรฉgliger de remplacer des piรจces
endommagรฉes pourrait entraรฎner la perte dโune roue ou du contrรดle du vรฉhicule, ce qui pourrait provoquer
des blessures ou des dommages matรฉriels.
12. Remplacez toute piรจce endommagรฉe. Pour savoir comment remplacer les piรจces de lโessieu avant,
reportez-vous ร la section 33.01 et pour les piรจces de lโessieu arriรจre, reportez-vous ร la section 35.01 du
manuel dโatelier du vรฉhicule (en anglais).
13. Dรฉposez les chandelles, abaissez le vรฉhicule et enlevez les cales.
IMPORTANT : Les รฉcrous de roue adoptent leur position finale pendant lโutilisation du vรฉhicule. En consรฉquence,
les รฉcrous de roue doivent รชtre resserrรฉs rรฉguliรจrement ร la valeur de couple spรฉcifiรฉe.
14. Aprรจs avoir conduit le vรฉhicule sur une distance de 80 ร 160 km (50 ร 100 milles), resserrez les รฉcrous de
roue selon les spรฉcifications dโorigine, en suivant la sรฉquence de serrage illustrรฉe sur la Figure 17.
15. Resserrez par la suite les รฉcrous de roue tous les 80 000 km (50 000 milles).
Installation du pare-chocs aรฉrodynamique
1. Insรฉrez les pattes du pare-chocs dans les fentes de moulage du pare-chocs, puis positionnez le parechocs.
2. Ouvrez le capot.
3. Sur les points de montage de chaque cรดtรฉ du pare-chocs, installez et serrez ร la main les deux vis
dโassemblage orientรฉes vers lโarriรจre en premier, puis celles sur les cรดtรฉs. Si le vรฉhicule en est รฉquipรฉ, installez
les supports de fixation du cรขblage des phares antibrouillard.
4. Serrez les vis dโassemblage du pare-chocs ร un couple de 27 Nยทm (20 lbfยทpi).
5. Si le vรฉhicule en est รฉquipรฉ, installez le support de fixation des crochets de remorquage et les crochets de
remorquage. Serrez la longue vis dโassemblage ร un couple de 27 Nยทm (20 lbfยทpi).
6. Le cas รฉchรฉant, installez les ampoules et raccordez tous les connecteurs รฉlectriques.
7. Nettoyez un emplacement sur lโรฉtiquette de base (formulaire WAR259). รcrivez le numรฉro de rappel,
FL872, sur un autocollant de parachรจvement (Formulaire WAR260), puis collez-le sur lโรฉtiquette de base
pour indiquer que le rappel a รฉtรฉ effectuรฉ.

IMPORTANT : Si les รฉcrous de roue ne peuvent รชtre serrรฉs aux valeurs de couple minimales, les goujons pourraient
tourner dans la collerette du moyeu, car ils auront perdu leur capacitรฉ de blocage. Dans ce cas, le moyeu
de roue est endommagรฉ et doit รชtre remplacรฉ par un neuf. Lโimpossibilitรฉ de serrer aux valeurs de couple minimales
pourrait aussi รชtre causรฉe par des filets de goujons ou dโรฉcrous de roues usรฉs.
