Date: | 04.16.21 | Labor Rate: | 0.3 Hours Inspection/0.8 Hours Replacement |
Purpose
Incorrect Turning Point pin boxes may have been installed on some 5th Wheels, with 10K pin boxes installed instead of 16K pin boxes. A visual inspection is necessary to determine if the incorrect pin box has been installed. If a10K pin box has been installed, then it must be removed and replaced with a 16K pin box (PN 657275). The inspection and replacement procedures are described in this document.
Safety
This document provides general instructions. Many variables can change the circumstances of any procedure, i.e. the degree of difficulty involved in the service operation and the ability level of the individual performing the operation. This document cannot begin to plot out procedures for every possibility, but will provide the general instructions for effectively installing, removing or servicing the system. In the event the skill level required is too advanced or the procedure too difficult, a certified technician should be consulted before performing the necessary operation. Failure to correctly install, remove or service the system may result in voiding the warranty, inflicting injury or even death.
Inspection
Inspect the side profile of the pin box to determine if it is a 16K or a 10K pin box.
- Visually examine the bottom side of the pin box profile.
A. If there is a notch (Fig. 1) toward the end of the pin box after the stored wedges, it is a 16K pin box. Replacement is not necessary.
B. If there is no notch (Fig. 2) where the bottom edge of the pin box extends in a straight line past the stored wedges, it is a 10K pin box and needs to be replaced.
Removal and Replacement
The procedures for replacing an existing pin box with a new pin box are listed.
