Summary
Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2, Saf-T-Liner EFX, and Saf-T-Liner HDX school buses. The steering arm and tie rod bolts may have a defective seam that can fracture.
Remedy
DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the tie rod arm bolts and steering arm, free of charge. The recall began on June 10, 2021. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA’s number for this recall is FL-884.

This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person. Daimler Trucks North America LLC, on behalf of its DETROITTM Powertrain Division, has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists on certain Detroit Model 2 and 3 steer axles manufactured between Jan 7th, 2021 and Mar 15th, 2021. DTNA is initiating Recall Campaign D21R6 to replace the tie rod and steering arm bolts. On certain Detroit Model 2 and 3 steer axles, the tie rod arm and steering arm bolts used to assemble front axle assemblies have a lengthwise “seam” defect which increases stress concentration, potentially leading to bolt failure or loss of pre-load. At first review, records indicated that your vehicle(s) has one of the affected steering axles. However, further review revealed that the unit(s) listed below was corrected at the OEM manufacturing plant prior to release. Therefore this letter is to inform you that no further work is needed on the vehicle that corresponds to the identification number(s) listed below. If you feel this is not correct, please contact the Warranty Campaigns Department at the numbers below. If you do not own the vehicle that corresponds to the identification number(s), which appears on the Recall Notification, please return the notification to the Warranty Campaigns Department with any information you can furnish that will assist us in locating the present owner. If you have leased this vehicle, Federal law requires that you forward this notice to the lessee within 10 days.
