IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL
Dear Valued Retail Partner:
This letter is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Enerco has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain propane regulators manufactured for Enerco by Winnspec/Chen Fong for use in recreational vehicles.
This notice applies to Enerco propane regulators, model number 73766 manufactured on or after April 30, 2018 and model number 73836(G) manufactured in 2019. Some of the products were packaged under the brand name Mr. Heater. Enerco has been advised that these propane regulators may be unable to control propane pressure to appliances located in the recreational vehicle. Elevated propane pressure may cause the flame of an RV appliance to become larger and under certain rare circumstances, may cause adjacent materials to ignite, posing a risk of burn injuries to occupants of the recreational vehicle, increasing the risk of a fire. Our records show that you purchased some of these propane regulators from Enerco for resale to your customers.
Please check your inventory for any products subject to this safety recall and return them to Enerco. Enerco will compensate you for the shipping expenses and will work with you to replace the affected inventory at no cost to you.
If any consumers contact you about this recall, or about an Enerco propane regulator, please direct them to call 1-800-964-4328.
If you believe that Enerco has failed to remedy this defect adequately, you may contact
NHTSA at: Administrator; National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE; Washington, DC 20590. Alternatively, you may call the DOT Safety Hotline tollfree at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov.
Enerco is required to inform you that it is a violation of federal law for any dealer, distributor or retailer to sell or lease any propane regulator covered by this recall notice.
Enerco regrets the need for this recall, but the safety of our mutual customers is Enerco’s highest priority.

Chronology
June 2, 2021
Enerco learned that Grand Design filed a Part 573 Report with NHTSA regarding propane regulators manufactured by Chen Fong under the brand name Winntec, due to reports of fires and thermal events involving the regulators. Enerco reached out to Winnspec to obtain information about the Grand Design filing.
First two weeks of June
Other RV manufacturers filed Part 573 Reports regarding Winntec propane regulators.
June 15, 2021
Although Enerco had not (and still has not) received any reports of fires or other thermal events involving its regulators, it began an investigation to determine whether its regulators were affected by the same defect that led to the RV manufacturersโ recalls, because Enerco also purchased propane regulators manufactured by Chen Fong through Winnspec.
June 30, 2021
Enerco was invited to attend a vehicle inspection by Winnspec. A THOR representative attending the inspection spoke with Enercoโs representatives and offered to share testing data developed over the past several months.
July 2, 2021
THOR shared test reports it obtained from an independent lab. Reports suggested that the seat disc material was different from a comparable competitorโs regulator. Enerco was informed that Chen Fong changed the seat disc material from nitrile rubber to fluoropolymer in 2018 for at least some of the propane regulators manufactured by Chen Fong. Enerco learned that research conducted for Thor demonstrated that seat discs manufactured from fluoropolymer seemed to be unable to retain adequate sealing capacity in the propane regulator.
Enerco also learned that research conducted for THOR demonstrated that plasticizers in certain pigtails supplied with propane regulators distributed to the RV manufacturers had leached and contaminated the body of the regulator; but it remains unclear if this has any effect on the regulatorโs function.
Enerco determined that the plasticizer issuer did not affect its propane regulators, because Enerco does not distribute these pigtails with its regulators. However, Enerco cannot be certain whether its customers may have used pigtails prone to leaching with its propane regulators; nor of any effect it may have.
July 3, 2021
Winnspec provided Enerco with a copy of a letter sent to NHTSA by Winnspec recommending the addition of an additional appliance regulator on refrigerators containing the Winnspec propane regulators identified by the RV manufacturers in their Part 573 reports.
July 16 to July 26, 2021
Enerco continued to investigate the issue, including telephone discussions with THOR and Winnspec.
Enerco verified that Chen Fong/Winnspec changed the seat disc material from nitrile rubber to fluoropolymer in May 2018.
July 26, 2021
Enerco decided to file a Part 573 Report with NHTSA regarding the propane regulators manufactured with fluoropolymer seat discs.
