Wire Harness Built Incorrectly
Loss of over-current protection can cause the wires to overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.

Summary
Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago
) is recalling certain 2022 Travato and Boldt vehicles. The wire harness may have been built incorrectly, resulting in the loss of over-current protection.
Remedy
Owners are instructed to not drive their vehicle until the Volta Power System is disabled. Dealers will replace the harness and inspect the electrical connection, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 26, 2021. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-6939 or 1-800-537-1885. Winnebago

NOTE: Only use the parts supplied in recall kit RC7649-22-764 to complete this repair.
It is important to follow these instructions in the order they are given. These instructions contain 7 pages, work through all steps to ensure a complete remedy is performed. Familiarize yourself with the model you are working on before proceeding.
Ensure all power has been disabled before proceeding
Failing to power the system down before performing work can result in serious injury.
Disable Volta System
CRITICAL SAFETY STEP
Failing to power the system down before performing work can result in serious injury.
- If not already done, follow the steps to disable the Volta system alternator control. If this has already been completed, proceed to the next applicable step.
- Power down Volta system using the button located near the state of charge gauge. Depress button to shut off the system. It may take a moment for the green light to shut off.
- Gauge will return to zero if properly shut down.
- Based on the model you are working on, locate the alternator control module and positive bus bar.
Travato 259KL
– On the 259KL access is located under the passenger side bed top. Open the access top and remove 4 screws holding in plastic bin.
Travato 259GL
– On the 259GL, access is located on the center of bed top. The metal bed frame may need to be removed to remove access cover.
Boldt Q70BL
- On the Q70BL, access is located under the passenger side bed top. The metal bed frame may need to be removed to get clearer access.
Boldt Q70KL
- On the Q70KL, access is located under the passenger side bed top. The metal bed frame may need to be removed to get clearer access.
Travato and Boldt
- Based on the model you are working on, locate the Volta alternator control module and disconnect the harness at both ends, remove the harness, and retain for return to Winnebago
.

Recall Remedy
Travato 259KL Isolator Stud Support
This page is for the Travato 259KL only. If you are working on a different floor plan, proceed to page 5 to continue with the recall remedy.
- With the system disabled, locate, and remove eyelet size largest on the bottom to the isolator studs from the floor.
- Using the supplied support board, apply one strip of double-sided tape along the length.
- Install the support board along the floor cutout as shown, secure at each end with supplied screws.
- Reinstall the isolator studs on the support board.

- If you needed to detach the wires, place them back on the same studs they were removed from, stacking them in order of eyelet size largest on the bottom to smallest on top.
- Torque the 13mm nuts to 14 ft/lb -or- 168 in/lb.
- Inspect all Volta System electrical connections, ensuring bolts are properly torqued, and eyelets are stacked in order of largest on the bottom to smallest on top.
Battery Cables at the Inverter
(Qty. 2) 9/16” nut, torque to 14 ft/lb -or- 168 in/lb
Cables at the Bus Bar
(Qty. 14) 17mm nut, torque to 15.5 ft/lb -or- 186 in/lb
Fuses at the Bus Bar
(Qty. 8) 13mm nut, torque to 8 ft/lb -or- 96 in/lb If 250 AMP fuse is missing, it will be added in a future step.
Isolator Studs
(Travato 259KL was done in a previous step)
(Qty. 3) 13mm nut, torque to 14 ft/lb -or- 168 in/lb
Volta Power Pack Cables
(Qty. 4) 9/16” nut, torque to 14 ft/lb -or- 168 in/lb
- All connections must be verified, if you need help locating these connections contact: Winnebago
Technical Assistance at 1-866-653-4329 for further instructions.
- Inspect Volta System wiring from the secondary alternator to the alternator control box.
- Using the supplied replacement harness, reconnect at the alternator control box and at the alternator control module harness.

- If the unit was previously disabled, locate the removed harness and 250AMP fuse in the overhead above the bench seat.
- Retain the previously removed harness, label it with your existing yellow warranty tags clearly identifying the serial number of the alternator control module it was removed from and return it to Winnebago
.
- Torque the 13mm nuts to 8 ft/lb -or- 96 in/lb
- After completion of the recall remedy, power the Volta system on to verify functionality. Wait approximately 60 seconds to ensure the system stays on. If there are any issues with the system at this point, please contact Winnebago
Technical Assistance at 1-866-653-4329.
- Return the removed harness to Winnebago
. Ensure the harness is labeled with your existing yellow warranty tags, clearly identifying the serial number of the alternator control module it was removed from.
- Label the outside of box with your existing orange warranty return parts label and mark the box as “Recall Parts” using a black permanent marker.

REASON FOR THIS RECALL
Winnebago Motorhomes has determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists on certain 2019 -2022 Travato (259GL & 259KL), and Boldt (Q70BL & Q70KL) Motorhomes. These motor homes were manufactured September 19, 2018 through October 01, 2021.
The alternator control module wire harness does not have adequate overcurrent protection. This, in combination with improper connections, can lead to overloaded circuits. If the circuit is overloaded, lack of overcurrent protection may lead to an increased risk of fire.
WHAT WE WILL DO
Winnebago Motorhomes will coordinate the harness replacement and electrical connection inspection of units identified in this recall. This will be at no charge to you.

Do not drive this vehicle – please leave it parked
A representative from CoachNet® may have already contacted you to disable the Volta system. If this is the case and your system has been disabled it is safe to drive and you can contact your nearest dealer to arrange for a repair appointment. If your system has not been disabled, please contact Winnebago Customer Care by email at customercare@wgo.net or by telephone at (641) 585-6939 or (800) 537-1885 to arrange for a field service technician to disable the Volta system.
Please contact your Winnebago motorhome dealer immediately to arrange for an appointment. The labor time necessary to perform this correction will be approximately 2 hours. Please allow additional time for the dealer to process your vehicle.

Chronology :
On Thursday September 30, 2021 Winnebago Product Compliance was made aware of a vehicle fire which was a Travato in delivery. No injuries or property damage was reported. An immediate investigation was launched. Winnebago
retained a fire and electrical experts, each arriving on Thursday October 7th. Upon completion of their investigation, the potential source was determined to be in a section of wire harness supplied by Volta Power Systems LLC. Winnebago
Product Safety Committee met on Thursday October 7th and decided to issue a voluntary recall of the affected units. On Monday October 11th representatives from Volta arrived and conducted an investigation, which identified loose wire connections and verified the harness previously identified was built incorrectly by one of their suppliers.

NHTSA Safety Recall 21V-793 TO: Winnebago Motorhome Dealers SUBJECT: Campaign # 164 – Volta Wire Harness The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, as amended, provides that each vehicle which is subject to a recall campaign of this type must be adequately repaired within a reasonable time after the owner has tendered it for repair. A failure to adequately repair within 60 days after tender of a vehicle is prima facie evidence of failure to repair within a reasonable time. If the condition is not adequately repaired within a reasonable time, the owners may be entitled to an identical or reasonably equivalent vehicle at no charge or to a refund of the purchase price less a reasonable allowance for depreciation. To avoid having to provide these burdensome solutions, every effort must be made to promptly schedule an appointment with each owner and to repair their vehicle as soon as possible. As you will see in reading the enclosed copy of the letter, which is being sent to owners, the owners are being instructed to contact Winnebago Motorhomes, if you do not remedy the condition within five days of the mutually agreed upon service date. REASON FOR THIS RECALL Winnebago Motorhomes has determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists on certain 2019 -2022 Travato (259GL & 259KL), and Boldt (Q70BL & Q70KL) Motorhomes. These motor homes were manufactured September 19, 2018 through October 01, 2021. The alternator control module wire harness does not have adequate overcurrent protection. This, in combination with improper connections, can lead to overloaded circuits. If the circuit is overloaded, lack of overcurrent protection may lead to an increased risk of fire. OWNER NOTIFICATION Owners will be notified of this campaign on their vehicles by Winnebago Motorhomes. For all units in your inventory, the notification will be mailed to you. DO NOT DELIVER TO A CUSTOMER ANY SUBJECT UNIT UNTIL CORRECTIVE ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN. Enclosed is a list of vehicles shipped to you. DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership from this time forward. Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into new or used vehicle inventory or it is in your dealership for service in the future, you should take the steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before reselling or releasing the vehicle. Repair Procedure: Refer to instructions for replacement of the incorrectly built harness and inspection of Volta system electrical connections. Parts Information: To minimize any inconvenience to your customers, we strongly encourage you to promptly order part kits for the vehicles on the attached list. This will ensure you have adequate inventory for your customers. Order the following Part Kit from Winnebago Motorhomes using the WinPortal system. You will be placing the order as a recall order. INSTRUCTIONS TO PERFORM RECALL CAMPAIGN 164 Page 1 of 7 Models Affected 2019 Travato 2020 Travato 2021 Travato Boldt 2022 Travato Boldt Tools and Parts Required Screw Gun #2 Phillips screw tip Torque Wrench with fittings to torque 9/16” nut 17mm nut 13mm nut (torque settings are given in both ft/lb and in/lb) NOTE: Only use the parts supplied in recall kit RC7649-22-764 to complete this repair. It is important to follow these instructions in the order they are given. These instructions contain 7 pages, work through all steps to ensure a complete remedy is performed. Familiarize yourself with the model you are working on before proceeding. Ensure all power has been disabled before proceeding Failing to power the system down before performing work can result in serious injury. INSTRUCTIONS TO PERFORM RECALL CAMPAIGN 164 Page 2 of 7 Disable Volta System CRITICAL SAFETY STEP Failing to power the system down before performing work can result in serious injury. – If not already done, follow the steps to disable the Volta system alternator control. If this has already been completed, proceed to the next applicable step. – Power down Volta system using the button located near the state of charge gauge. Depress button to shut off the system. It may take a moment for the green light to shut off. – Gauge will return to zero if properly shut down. – Based on the model you are working on, locate the alternator control module and positive bus bar. Travato 259KL – On the 259KL access is located under the passenger side bed top. Open the access top and remove 4 screws holding in plastic bin. Travato 259GL – On the 259GL, access is located on the center of bed top. The metal bed frame may need to be removed to remove access cover. INSTRUCTIONS TO PERFORM RECALL CAMPAIGN 164 Page 3 of 7 Boldt Q70BL – On the Q70BL, access is located under the passenger side bed top. The metal bed frame may need to be removed to get clearer access. Boldt Q70KL – On the Q70KL, access is located under the passenger side bed top. The metal bed frame may need to be removed to get clearer access. Travato and Boldt – Based on the model you are working on, locate the Volta alternator control module and disconnect the harness at both ends, remove the harness, and retain for return to Winnebago. Picture shows the Travato 259KL, orientation is different on other floor plans, connections are the same. INSTRUCTIONS TO PERFORM RECALL CAMPAIGN 164 Page 4 of 7 Recall Remedy Travato 259KL Isolator Stud Support This page is for the Travato 259KL only. If you are working on a different floor plan, proceed to page 5 to continue with the recall remedy. – With the system disabled, locate, and remove the isolator studs from the floor. – Using the supplied support board, apply one strip of double-sided tape along the length. – Install the support board along the floor cutout as shown, secure at each end with supplied screws. – Reinstall the isolator studs on the support board. – If you needed to detach the wires, place them back on the same studs they were removed from, stacking them in order of eyelet size largest on the bottom to smallest on top. – Torque the 13mm nuts to 14 ft/lb -or- 168 in/lb. Added support board Added support board INSTRUCTIONS TO PERFORM RECALL CAMPAIGN 164 Page 5 of 7 – Inspect all Volta System electrical connections, ensuring bolts are properly torqued, and eyelets are stacked in order of largest on the bottom to smallest on top. Battery Cables at the Inverter (Qty. 2) 9/16” nut, torque to 14 ft/lb -or- 168 in/lb Cables at the Bus Bar (Qty. 14) 17mm nut, torque to 15.5 ft/lb -or- 186 in/lb Fuses at the Bus Bar (Qty. 8) 13mm nut, torque to 8 ft/lb -or- 96 in/lb If 250 AMP fuse is missing, it will be added in a future step. Isolator Studs (Travato 259KL was done in a previous step) (Qty. 3) 13mm nut, torque to 14 ft/lb -or- 168 in/lb Volta Power Pack Cables (Qty. 4) 9/16” nut, torque to 14 ft/lb -or- 168 in/lb o All connections must be verified, if you need help locating these connections contact: Winnebago Technical Assistance at 1-866-653-4329 for further instructions. – Inspect Volta System wiring from the secondary alternator to the alternator control box. o If any damage is found, or the wires appear to have been hot, contact: Winnebago Technical Assistance at 1-866-653-4329 for further instructions. INSTRUCTIONS TO PERFORM RECALL CAMPAIGN 164 Page 6 of 7 – Using the supplied replacement harness, reconnect at the alternator control box and at the alternator control module harness. Picture shows the Travato 259KL, orientation is different on other floor plans, connections are the same. – If the unit was previously disabled, locate the removed harness and 250AMP fuse in the overhead above the bench seat. – Retain the previously removed harness, label it with your existing yellow warranty tags clearly identifying the serial number of the alternator control module it was removed from and return it to Winnebago. – Install the 250AMP Fuse in the open location of the fuse block. – Torque the 13mm nuts to 8 ft/lb -or- 96 in/lb INSTRUCTIONS TO PERFORM RECALL CAMPAIGN 164 Page 7 of 7 – After completion of the recall remedy, power the Volta system on to verify functionality. Wait approximately 60 seconds to ensure the system stays on. If there are any issues with the system at this point, please contact Winnebago Technical Assistance at 1-866-653-4329. – Return the removed harness to Winnebago. Ensure the harness is labeled with your existing yellow warranty tags, clearly identifying the serial number of the alternator control module it was removed from. – Label the outside of box with your existing orange warranty return parts label and mark the box as “Recall Parts” using a black permanent marker. – Send to: Warranty Returns – Attn.
