Summary
Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago
) is recalling certain 2022 Ekko vehicles. The shower and sink drainage system may leak and allow water to infiltrate nearby electrical components, which could cause an electrical short.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the shower and sink drainage pump system, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 17, 2022. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-6939 or 1-800-537-1885. Winnebago
’s number for this recall is 165.

REASON FOR THIS RECALL
As previously communicated, Winnebago Motorhomes has decided that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists on certain 2022 Ekko Motorhomes. These motor homes were manufactured January 08, 2021 through December 01, 2021.
Shower and lavatory sink drainage system may leak which can lead to water infiltrating nearby electrical components. Water infiltrating electrical components can cause an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire.
REASON FOR RECALL ADDENDUM
You are receiving this notice because additional steps have been identified to improve the seal of your shower enclosure. Upon further investigation, it was identified that when water is sprayed directly in certain locations it can get to the floor area behind the shower.
WHAT WE WILL DO
Winnebago Motorhomes will coordinate additional sealing of the shower area. This will be at no charge to you.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
Please contact your Winnebago motorhome dealer immediately to arrange for an appointment to have this additional work performed. The labor time necessary to perform this correction will be approximately 2 hours. Please allow additional time for the dealer to process your vehicle.
Winnebago motorhome dealers are best equipped to obtain parts and provide service to ensure your vehicle is corrected as promptly as possible. HOWEVER, if you take your vehicle to the dealer on the agreed date and they do not service this condition on that date or within five days, we recommend you contact Winnebago

Chronology :
This issue was discovered on November 21, 2021 when Product Compliance was alerted to a customer concern. An investigation was immediately launched where it was discovered the issue of leaking wastewater was already being evaluated by Product Development. Through the investigation it was confirmed that water leaking from the drainage system can reach the inverter. A total of eight field events were identified where the inverter had stopped functioning, though no thermal events had occurred. These events occurred between November 8, 2021 and December 3, 2021. Through discussion with Quality Control, a potential mold / mildew issue was also identified. It was determined the pump system allowed residual wastewater to remain in the collection box which provides an opportunity for the growth of mold / mildew. This was identified as an additional safety concern and added to the required remedy development. A meeting of the Product Safety committee was held on December 01, 2021 and the committee decided to issue a voluntary recall.

If it is in the battery compartment, no extra steps need to be taken. Move on to page 4. 2. If the battery disconnect is in a separate compartment, follow the 110 Volt generator wire from the generator to the Automatic Transfer Switch in the Dinette Cabinet. 3. If excess wire is in the battery compartment, move on to Step 7. 4. If no excess wire exists, remove any silicone on the 110 Volt wire going from the battery compartment towards the inside of the coach. 5. After removing the silicone, pull on the wire to remove any excess wire between the compartment and the floor. 6. Continue with Step 7. Insert a work mat to protect the flooring through the duration of these instructions. 8. Remove the rear passenger seats by grabbing in the front of the seat, carefully pull up ensuring you do not damage the retaining clips. The seat will pop out of the retainer clip and then lift out. 9. Remove the front cabinet panel by removing the 5 Philips screws in the face of the panel. Set aside for reinstallation of the panel. 10. If the heating duct is in the front panel, another screw connecting the duct and vent (back side of panel) will need removed. Set the screw aside for reinstalling the panel. INSTRUCTIONS TO PERFORM RECALL CAMPAIGN 165 Page 5 of 23 PROPERTY OF WINNEBAGO INDUSTRIES INC. FOR AUTHORIZED DEALER USE ONLY. 11. Using a white paint marker, make alignment marks on the seat frame for reinstallation of the seats. 12. Using a ยพโ wrench, remove the 8 nuts and washers holding the 4 u-bolts on. Set the seat hardware aside for reinstallation. 14. The seat backs and cross members should now lift off the dinette cabinet. 15. For this step there are two 5 Amp fuses. Remove the 5 Amp fuse from the circuit with the JA1 and DA1 wires leading to the fuse. 16. After removing the fuse, use electrical tape to seal off the fuse receptacle. The replacement pump will be fused separately, and this fuse is no longer necessary with the new configuration. Do not reinstall the fuse. 17. Move any necessary heating ducts out of the way. One heating duct will point to the old pump. INSTRUCTIONS TO PERFORM RECALL CAMPAIGN 165 Page 7 of 23 PROPERTY OF WINNEBAGO INDUSTRIES INC. FOR AUTHORIZED DEALER USE ONLY. 18. The heating duct can be moved around and taken tight to the wall so that it is no longer in the way. 19. Unscrew the electrical bracket from the floor. a) On the back side of the bracket, there are two Phillips head screws. Remove these and the bracket will be free. 20. After becoming free, it is recommended to bring the electrical bracket up so that it is not in the way when setting the drain pan. a) Take caution when moving the bracket not to damage or overstretch any wires. 21. Using rags or a similar product, plug the wire holes in the floor to keep any water from dripping through the holes. FOR AUTHORIZED DEALER USE ONLY. 22. In the storage cabinet directly behind the seat, remove the access panel at the bottom rear of the compartment. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two Phillips head screws and the panel will come free. Set aside the screws for reinstallation **Take extra caution to avoid spilling any water during the following steps. If any spills it is critical that it gets cleaned up before continuing. ** 23. Remove any water from the water pump. It is recommended to use a wet/dry vacuum to do this. 24. Remove the pump overflow tube. 25. After removing the strainer, plug the shower drain hose by putting a rag or paper towel in the drain to keep water from dumping onto the floor during the removal process. 27. Cut the lavatory sink drain line as close to the elbow as possible while making sure to cut off any part of the hose that may be damaged or have sealant on it. 28. Plug the hose by putting a rag or paper towel in the drain line to keep water from spilling onto the floor during the removal process. Do this on both sides of the cut. 29. On the wastewater drain line, cut the hose on the pump side of the check valve. 30. Plug the hose by putting a rag or paper towel in the drain line to keep water from spilling onto the floor during the removal process. 31. Cut the power wires leading to the pump a) One wire will be black, and one wire will be grey. b) Trace them back from the pump and cut just after the nearest butt-splice on the yellow and white electrical wires. 32. Crimp a butt-connector onto each wire and tape over the end of the wire and butt-connector. These wires do not have power anymore and will not be necessary with the new configuration. FOR AUTHORIZED DEALER USE ONLY. 33. Remove the two screws securing the pump to the floor. 34. Remove the pump being careful not to spill any remaining water in the system. 35. Move the lavatory sink drain line so that it is out of the way and no water can seep out through the end of the line. 36. Dry any water that may have spilled during the pump removal. 37. On the wastewater drain line, undo the hose clamps on the outlet side of the check valve leading to the wastewater tank. 38. Using a twisting and pulling motion, remove the check valve from the line so that the check valve fitting pulls out of the wastewater drain line. c) The check valve should look like this after being removed. 39. Remove the loosened hose clamps. 40. Plug the hose by putting a rag or paper towel in the drain to keep water from dumping onto the floor during the removal process. 41. Clean around the shower pan drain hole to remove all contaminants and sealant that might be on the top or bottom side of the shower pan. Using Drain Pan A, mark the location of the drain hole a) When positioning the drain pan, the pan should get as close to the sidewall as possible and as tight to the cabinet panel as possible. Wires may need to be lifted/manipulated to achieve this. b) When positioning the pan, check for proper fitting in the floor cutout. The carpet may need to be trimmed with a utility knife. c) Use a marker to mark the perimeter of the drain hole 43. Mark the center of the circle. Using the previously marked location, drill the drain hole using the 3 ยฝ inch hole saw a) Make sure not to cut through the steel for the compartment beneath the floor b) The pilot drill bit should not extend past the teeth of the hole saw any more than 25mm c) Stop drilling immediately after getting through the floor. 45. After being connected to the shower drain, the pump kit should be in the correct location. Orient the pump kit so that all the connections of the preassembled pump kit are above the drain pan and that the bracket for the pump can sit flat on the floor. Attach the bracket to the floor where it best sits using the provided screws. 71. Slide two hose clamps onto the lavatory faucet drain line so they have opposite facing screws. 72. Remove rags / towels from lavatory faucet drain line, applied in step 22. 73. Using a heat gun, heat the end of the lavatory faucet drain line. In the exterior toilet cassette compartment, loosen the wire clamp securing the toilet wiring so that the wires can be manipulated. 2. Verify the back of the toilet is in tight against the shower wall. 3. If the gap between the shower wall and the back of the toilet is 10 mm or less, move on to step 9. 4. If the gap between the back of the toilet and the shower wall is greater than 10mm, remove the four screws securing the toilet. Access the screws through the outside tank compartment door. The toilet cassette will need to be removed. Set aside for reinstallation of the toilet. 5. While keeping the toilet connected to wires and plumbing, move it out of the way. This will provide access to the screw holes from step 3 from the outside. 6. Fill the old screw holes with silicone to seal the shower pan. 7. Set the toilet back into place and reposition the toilet so that it is tight to the wall. 8. Secure the toilet into place in the new location using the previously removed screws. The toilet manufacturer recommends torquing the screws to 1.2 +/- 0.3 N-m (10.6 +/- 2.6 lb-in). ADDENDUM TO INSTRUCTIONS TO PERFORM RECALL CAMPAIGN 165 PROPERTY OF WINNEBAGO INDUSTRIES INC. Using the toilet bracket as a template, mark the screw locations. 11. Remove the toilet bracket and use a 3/8โ drill bit to create a hole for the screws in the shower surround. Temporarily use a plate behind the shower surround to keep from drilling into the toilet. 12. Put the convoluted conduit onto the leftinside edge of the bracket to protect the wires and water lines. 13. Put the toilet bracket into place. 14. Screw the bracket into place using the three provided 10×3/4 Pan Head screws. Torque the screws to 0.9 N-m (8.0 lb-in). 15. Resecure the wire clamp from step 7. 16. Reinstall the toilet cassette. 17. On the inside of the coach, apply silicone around the top and rear side of the toilet. 18. With the pivoting wall in the showering position, remove the screw at the base of the pivoting wall. An investigation was immediately launched where it was discovered the issue of leaking wastewater was already being evaluated by Product Development. Through the investigation it was confirmed that water leaking from the drainage system can reach the inverter. Field events were identified where the inverter had stopped functioning, though no thermal events had occurred. Through discussion with Quality Control, a potential mold / mildew issue was also identified. It was determined the pump system allowed residual wastewater to remain in the collection box which provides an opportunity for the growth of mold / mildew. This was identified as an additional safety concern and added to the required remedy development. A meeting of the Product Safety committee was held on December 01, 2021 and the committee decided to issue a voluntary recall. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The remedy to correct this defect is currently under development, but will involve a complete replacement of the pump system with a newly developed and tested system.
