DETROITTM Tie Rod & Steer Arm Bolt Replacement
Models Affected: DETROITTM Model 2 and Model 3 Steer Axl
Chronology :
Late February, 2021, despite having no warranty claims nor other indications of failures on customer vehicles, DTNA axle assembly plant reported tie rod bolt and steering arm bolt quality concerns and began containment.
Quality alert was issued for axle assembly plant locations.
Early March, 2021 DTNA defined suspect bolt lots and cleared inventory. Suspect bolts were sent to supplier for additional analysis.
Late March, 2021, DTNA received initial metallurgical report for supplier showing potential for long term fatigue failure. Discussions with supplier ongoing.
Early April 2021, even though DTNA is not aware of any field failures related to this concern, DTNA decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall while continuing to investigate the population.
April 14, 2021 after additional review of suspect axles it was found that there was a population of axles that we supplied to other OEMs, so on April 16, 2021 DTNA filed an equipment recall for these additional axles. October 18, 2021 DIR population reduced to remove vehicles that were contained before being released.
Daimler notified Jayco of recall 21V-256/21E-029. June 21, 2021 WIRC reviewed the information and elevated it to CPAC. On July 7, 2021 CPAC reviewed the information and elevated this to SSC pending the receipt of affected units from Daimler. On January 27, 2022, SSC voted to proceed with filing a chassis pass through recall.
