Summary
Keystone RV Company (Keystone
) is recalling certain 2022 Alpine, Impact, Arcadia, Avalanche, Fuzion, and Passport travel trailers, equipped with a 50-amp shore power inlet. The power inlet lug bolts may have been manufactured with excessively hard metal, preventing them from being tightened properly and resulting in a loose wiring connection.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the power inlet, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2022. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone
’s number for this recall is 22-428.

Shore Cord Receptacle
Keystone is conducting a voluntary RECALL notification campaign in accordance with the National Highway Transportation and Safety Act. It has been decided that the vehicles in the recall population have a 50 amp shore power inlet with a #2 Philips lug that may have been improperly stamped, not allowing it to be properly torqued by the installer. Under certain conditions if the lug is not properly torqued to 20 inch pounds, the loose connection can lead to an increased risk of property damage or fire.

Parts Required per Inspection: 1 – KRV # 384874 – Recept – 125/250v – 50A – Inlet – Epicord – Black (This part may be ordered in bulk without a VIN)
Tools Required:
– Screw gun
– Caulk Gun
– Inch pound torque screwdriver
Note – Check serial number on Key Express to verify the campaign is open. Some vehicles were repaired before they left Keystone.
When performing warranty or recall service, please make certain that appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used.
The remedy is to remove the 50 amp shore receptacle torque lugs to 20 inch pounds. If 20 inch pounds cannot be reached, the 50 amp shore receptacle is to be replaced.
REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1
Locate the trailer on a level, flat, hard surface. Chock the wheels, disconnect 120VAC, 12VDC, and solar power.
Step 2
Remove 50A inlet from sidewall. Slide protective sleeve off of inlet to reveal the lugs.
Step 3
Using a torque screwdriver or torque wrench with a screw bit, torque all four lugs to 20 inch pounds. If the torque value is not able to be reached, replace the inlet and tighten the new inlet lugs to 20 inch pounds. Reinstall and seal as needed.
Step 4
Proceed to warranty reimbursement.
Chronology :
3/15/2022 – Report was made to Keystone compliance of a product containment request by Patrick Distribution. All affected 50 amp power inlets in stock were contained. Investigation opened.
3/15/2022 to 3/21/2022– Further information from Patrick obtained and gathered on actual defect and cause of defect reviewed with Keystone Compliance team.
3/24/2022 – Keystone Safety Committee reviewed the information from Keystone
Compliance team and concluded that the data reviewed indicated a unanimous vote for a voluntary recall. Investigation called for to determine affected unit range.
3/29/2022 – Investigation concluded and scope completed.

Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-208 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Under certain conditions if the lug is not properly torqued to 20 inch pounds, the loose connection can lead to an increased risk of property damage or fire. Description of the Cause : The material that the lug is made out of is too hard and did not allow the #2 Philips to be stamped deep enough to allow proper seating of a torque driver. Box 638 Elkhart 46515 Country : NR Chronology : 3/15/2022 – Report was made to Keystone compliance of a product containment request by Patrick Distribution. All affected 50 amp power inlets in stock were contained. Investigation opened. 3/15/2022 to 3/21/2022– Further information from Patrick obtained and gathered on actual defect and cause of defect reviewed with Keystone Compliance team. 3/24/2022 – Keystone Safety Committee reviewed the information from Keystone Compliance team and concluded that the data reviewed indicated a unanimous vote for a voluntary recall. Investigation called for to determine affected unit range. 3/29/2022 – Investigation concluded and scope completed. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-208 Page 4 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The remedy is to remove the 50 amp shore receptacle on suspect vehicles and torque lugs to 20 inch pounds. If 20 inch pounds cannot be reached, the 50 amp shore receptacle is to be replaced. Manufacturer Reimbursement Plan on file as of 10/07/2020. General reimbursement plan to be updated every two years. New vehicles are covered under warranty. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : If the 50 amp shore receptacle cannot be properly torqued, it is to be replaced. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Units were quarantined, inspected then repaired as indicated by inspection. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Keystone will notify the dealers and owners of the recreational vehicles by letter. A final copy of the owner letter will be provided to NHTSA, along with the dealer repair procedures.
