R22BU: Gasoline Supply Line Rubbing Condition on Ford 7.3L
Models Affected: Certain model year 2022 and 2023 Blue Bird Visions, equipped with the 7.3L gasoline engine and 100-gallon fuel tank.
Issue: Improper routing and securement of the fuel line could cause unintended contact with certain fasteners on the chassis and cause a potential fuel leak.
Corrective Action: Inspect the fuel supply line for proper routing and determine if further action(s) are necessary. Possible corrective actions are relocating clamp position and/or replacement of the fuel supply line. Reference Figures 1-4 for proper routing and securement.
Chronology :
On April 13, 2022, a rubbing condition between a gasoline supply line and bolt head was observed by the Blue Bird Engineering team while completing a review of an in-process chassis. After review, it was found that all in-process units with a Ford 7.3L gasoline engine and 100-gallon fuel tank had the same defect. The Blue Bird Critical Issue Review Group (CIRG) held a meeting on April 14, 2022 to review the potential failure modes of this defect. The CIRG team presented this issue to Blue Birdโs Product Safety Committee on April 18, 2022, where it was approved to conduct a stop ship. Blue Bird issued a recall on April 25, 2022 after determining the extent of the field population. To date, no field complaints have been received related to this issue.

Involved Components : Component Name 1 : FUEL LINE,GAS,SUPPLY SECTION 3,100 GAL,2022 Component Description : FUEL LINE,GAS,SUPPLY SECTION 3,100 GAL,2022 Component Part Number : 10073820 Component Name 2 : FUEL LINE,GAS,SUPPLY SECTION 3,100 GAL Component Description : FUEL LINE,GAS,SUPPLY SECTION 3,100 GAL Component Part Number : 10067235 Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : NR Address : NR NR Country : NR Chronology : On April 13, 2022, a rubbing condition between a gasoline supply line and bolt head was observed by the Blue Bird Engineering team while completing a review of an in-process chassis. After review, it was found that all inprocess units with a Ford
7.3L gasoline engine and 100-gallon fuel tank had the same defect. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-274 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR ยง573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : To correct this condition, a frame mounted clamping point must be removed and relocated to allow proper routing for the affected gasoline supply line. The affected gasoline supply line should also be inspected and replaced if any signs of wear or damage are observed. Blue Bird will reimburse the labor cost of the repair related to this recall at no cost to the Dealer or to the vehicle owner. If the modifications directed by this notification were performed on your bus prior to the receipt of this recall notification, provide a copy of the work order/invoice to campaignparts@blue-bird.com for Blue Bird for warranty consideration. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy is a rerouting of the fuel line. During the inspection process, any lines with witness marks that indicate rubbing has occurred, will be replaced with a new line and then routed correctly in the designed path. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : On 04/18/2022, the condition was corrected by instructing the assembly line to build per the approved design and stop installing the additional, undocumented securement clamp. Quality and mfg engineering were made aware of the problem so that it could be monitored. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Dealer and Owner Notifications are to be issued on or before June 21, 2022. Parts are required and will be available at time of recall release.
