IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL
July 13, 2022
Re: NHTSA Recall # 22E-039
Carparts.com, Inc., in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is conducting a voluntary safety recall of certain oil filter housings with part number RD31260001 sold between August 18, 2021 and May 3, 2022, under the brand names Replacement and Evan-Fischer. As a dealer who our records indicate has sold oil filter housings covered by this recall, you are receiving this letter to (1) help you easily and accurately identify any recalled product, (2) outline your critical role in the recall, (3) walk you through the reimbursement process, and (4) provide you with information on resources that can help you follow the recall requirements.
Carparts.com has decided that a potential defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in the oil filter housings noted above. The issue may not exist in every unit described. In those units that are affected, the plugs may not create a proper seal and can therefore separate from the part or leak, allowing oil to escape from the oil filter housing. If oil escapes from the housing, the engine could seize, preventing acceleration of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash. Oil that comes into contact with high temperature surfaces or an ignition source can cause smoke and potentially fire.
In most circumstances, a vehicle operator will be alerted to the oil leakage by illumination of an oil light emitting from under the vehicle hood, should immediately cease operation of the vehicle.
Given this potential issue, Carparts.com is voluntarily recalling the subject oil filter housings. Carparts.com will provide end-user customers a refund of $206, which exceeds the part-purchase price for all customers. You have recently received a copy of the recall notification letter issued to end-user customers alerting them to this safety action, and providing information on how end-users can obtain the recall remedy.
Immediate Next Steps
To begin the recall process, you must locate and quarantine all recalled oil filter housings in your new product inventory. It is imperative that you do not sell any of these units. Please note that it is a violation of federal law to sell or lease motor vehicle equipment covered by this notification.
We also need your assistance to locate all customers and end users who may have purchased recalled oil filter housings, so we can attempt to notify them of the recall. Due to the urgency and importance of this addresses of all customers and consumers to whom you sold the recalled oil filter housings. As soon as you provide that information, Carparts.com will mail the enclosed consumer recall notification letter to your consumer customers. Naturally, if you wish to write, call or email your customers in addition to mailing, we encourage you to do so.
Credit for Disposal of Recalled Parts
If you have any recalled parts in stock, please contact us at the information below, and Carparts.com will provide you with a refund for the purchase price of those parts. You will be asked to supply photographs and/or other documentary proof of the number of units that remain in your inventory. Once you have supplied that confirmation to Carparts.com, please destroy the recalled oil filter housings.
For Further Information
If you have any questions regarding this recall, please call us at 1.866.545.4653 or email us at recall@carparts.com.
Thank you in advance for your assistance, and we regret this inconvenience. We at Carparts.com are committed to the highest standards of safety and product quality. We are committed to working with you and your customers throughout this recall to ensure a successful campaign. Thank you.
