CONDITION:
On motorhomes affected by this Recall, the hydraulic lines may not have been properly routed, secured, or protected.
Chronology of Defect / Nonโcompliance Determination
Provide the chronology of events leading up to the defect decision or test data for the nonโcompliance decision:
December 20, 2021 โ Based upon NHTSA VOQ inquiry REV RV began an investigation on routing of level system hoses on 2020 MY Southwind models as a customer had a motor home where they found a hose unprotected (potentially leaking) and routed through the frame rail.
January 6, 2022 โ Warranty claim data review did not reveal any 2020 MY Southwind motor homes with the condition reported.
January 2022 โ Replied to VOQ inquiry. REV engineering investigating standards and requirements relating to hose routing, chaffing and heat. Engineering consulted with Lippert Component Inc. (โLCIโ) the manufacture of the hoses to determine their hose testing criteria. Engineering reviewed the Southwind motor homes in production and did not find others with the same condition reported in the VOQ. They also performed field testing on motor homes to understand how usage could affect the hoses. In addition, REV RV considered the influence heat may have on the hoses as heat rating was one of the criteria defined by LCI.
February through April 2022 โ Engineering received a leveling hose installation procedure from LCI. They also conducted heat testing on the hoses in various stages of operation and conditions. Engineering sourced heat shielding material with specifications from LCI for further testing for potential heat protection.
May 2022โ REV RV requested further testing by independent company to validate the hoseโs performance to the SAE specifications. Conducted a widespread review of warranty data and provided analysis to engineering.
June 2022 โ Engineering received materials to perform chafe tests to validate corrugated auto loom performance.
July through August 2022 โ Engineering received independent test results which were coupled with internal testing to determine that routing of leveling hoses through the frame rail openings and/or near engine heat sources requires protection. Engineering updated prints to outline areas that need protection from heat and abrasion. They worked with Quality and Operations implemented a change in installation, routing and with work instructions on how and where to install the hose protection material.
August 2022 โ This Issue was escalated within the REV Group Safety Committee who decided to declare a voluntary safety recall.

FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : A damaged hydraulic line may leak or spray fluid, cause the risk of a fire, or cause property damage and/or personal injury. Description of the Cause : On some units a deviation in standard work may result in hoses that are not routed, secured, or protected sufficiently. This may cause chafing near the frame rail components and or blistering of the hoses near heat sources. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : Hydraulic hoses that are not routed, secured or protected may begin to chafe or blister. Hydraulic fluid may be visibly leaking under the motor home, an alarm may sound from the touch pad and/or hydraulic levelers may fail to operate properly. Hydraulic hoses that are at risk of damage due to chaffing or heat will be inspected and if defective, will be protected or replaced. REV RV will notify dealers by providing inspection and repair instructions for motor homes. The repairs will be made free of charge. Owners that have had previously paid to have their RV remedied will be reimbursed upon presentation of a receipt. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Engineering has reviewed the processes and updated the leveling hose routing schematics. Quality and Operations have implemented training and standard work to ensure proper routing and protection. Changes to standard work includes installing protective loom and heat reflective material to hoses that are near areas where chassis or frame abrasions could occur or near heat sources. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Under the direction of engineering on August 15, 2022, all units in REVโs Plant inventory were inspected and if needed, leveling hoses were rerouted and protection added prior to shipment to commerce. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Dealer notifications will be conducted via email. Owner notifications will be conducted via US mail Planned Dealer Notification Date : OCT 25, 2022 – OCT 25, 2022 Planned Owner Notification Date : OCT 28, 2022 – OCT 28, 2022 * NR – Not Reported
