Summary
Nova Bus (US) Inc. (Nova
) is recalling certain 2010-2021 LFS and 2009-2012 LFS Artic transit buses. These vehicles are equipped with non-standard color auxiliary lights which may impair the effectiveness of the standard lighting equipment. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamp, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
Dealers will remove the non-standard color lights, or replace them with white lights, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 31, 2023. Owners may contact Nova’s customer service at 1-800-350-6682. Nova
’s number for this recall is CR5350/5351.

Nova Bus has not received any consumer complaint, field report, property damage claim, and neither notice or claim of injury or death associated with this regulatory noncompliance. No compliance testing was performed related to this regulatory noncompliance due to the nature of the noncompliance. FMVSS 108 S6.2.1 regulatory interpretations were the main compliance activities.

Locate the marker light connector and unplug it. Figure 3 – Locate the Connector 1.6. From the outside of the vehicle, locate the marker light (see figure 1) and remove the 4 screws. Retain the hardware. Discard the light. 1.7. Install the new light with new gaskets. Make sure the surfaces are clean to avoid water intrusion inside the vehicle. Nova Bus (US) Inc. has decided that certain Nova Bus models LFS and LFS Artic, model years 2009 to 2022 fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108; Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. Nova Bus (US) Inc. have voluntarily submitted a Vehicle Recall Report to NHTSA that generated the Safety Recall 22V902. The service document CR5351E explaining the measures to be taken to remedy the affected vehicles will be published on Nova Bus web site https://us.novabus.com/customer-portal/. The vehicles can be remedied starting from March 1st 2023. The remedy should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The necessary replacement parts will be available via the Nova Bus Parts distribution network. Nova Bus (US) Inc. will covers the parts and labour costs of the remedy according to the warranty claim policies in effect. Certain vehicles are equipped with non-standard color auxiliary lamps which may impair the effectiveness of the standard lighting equipment. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamp, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.” The non-standard color auxiliary lamps may cause confusion by distracting other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash. Nova Bus will remove the non-standard color lamps, or replace them with white lights. Any lessor who receives a notification of a determination of a safety-related defect or noncompliance pertaining to any leased motor vehicle shall send a copy of such notice to the lessee.
