Dear Final Stage Manufacturer,
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
The Shyft Group, Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model year 2022, 2023, and 2024, K1, K2, K3, and K4 model Spartan RV chassis equipped with a vehicle control module (ICM) supplied by Ametek.
What is the problem?
The vehicle control module is subject to a software error.
What is the risk to motor vehicle safety?
The software error could result in inadvertent loss of motive power and other key safety functions such as loss of head lamps or windshield wipers. This could occur without warning and increase the risk of a crash.
What should the final stage manufacturer do?
On the attached document, you will find a list of Spartan RV chassis that have been sold to you. If you agree the identified chassis, contains a safety defect, you are reminded of your responsibility to notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in accordance with 49 C.F.R. 573. It is a violation of federal regulation to sell a vehicle subject to a safety recall without the recall first being remedied.
What will Shyft do?
The vehicle control module will be reprogrammed with corrected software. This will be done at no charge.
We will notify owners of the affected vehicles and direct them to the nearest service center to have the remedy applied.

Dear Valued Customer, This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. What is the Defect? The vehicle control module is subject to a software error. What is the Safety Risk? The software error could result in inadvertent loss of motive power and other key safety functions such as loss of head lamps or windshield wipers. What is the Warning? This could increase the risk of a crash and could occur without warning. What is the Remedy? The vehicle control module will be reprogrammed with corrected software and will be done at no charge to you. Leased Vehicles:
The lessor must notify the lessee by first class mail within ten (10) days from receipt of their owner notification letter from the manufacturer; both for the initial notification and all subsequent notifications.
Reimbursement:

On December 14, 2022, Product Safety and Compliance was made aware of a single customer complaint involving loss of motive power. On January 13, 2023 and January 14, 2023, two more complaints were received involving loss of key safety functions. After identifying the issue to be associated with a software change on January 26, 2023, Shyft identifying the affected VIN’s. The population of VIN’s was finalized on February 1, 2023 and on February 2, 2023, Shyft determined there is a safety related defect in the affected chassis. Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : The vehicle control module will be reprogrammed at no charge. Chassis
subject to this recall are within their warranty period. Any repairs would have been covered through the normal warranty process. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The vehicle control module software version subject to this recall is v1.2. Remedied vehicle control modules will be at software v1.3.
