Production Dates : MAR 03, 2022 – SEP 22, 2022 Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23E-013 Page 2 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : The SAF torque rod part no. 83-07738-000 was approved to be a backwards compatible replacement of the Tenneco torque rod part no. 82-74712-001 installed as original equipment of the rear suspension of the vehicle. However, the geometry of the SAF rod may potentially interfere with certain safety related circuits during vehicle operations causing system faults. Depending on multiple variables including the specific system configuration, vehicle dynamics and time in service, the interference may impact the following safety-related circuits: – Anti-lock braking, automatic traction and stability control systems with potential loss of specific functionality – 24V power cables with potential loss of engine power – 12V accessory power cables with potential loss of exterior lighting equipment – Circuitry wires with consequent loss of Diesel low fuel level – Transmission and engine control module loss of power with consequent sudden switch Neutral. Engine shutdown and loss of power steering – Wet air supply line damage. Damage to the air supply line may prevent replenishment of air to the primary and secondary air tanks and after multiple service brake applications potentially lead to the application of the spring brakes and loss of vehicle control. Therefore, GILLIG is recalling a limited number of SAF rods that were sold through its Aftermarket Parts business.
