Summary
Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2018-2021 Hurricane and Windsport recreational vehicles. The driver and front passenger overhead cabinets may detach.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and reinstall the overhead cabinets, if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 15, 2023. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC’s number for this recall is RC000290.

Overhead Cabinets
Certain model year 2018-2021
Hurricane and Windsport motorhomes
Issue:
It has been discovered that on certain model year 2018-2021 Hurricane and Windsport motorhomes, the overhead cabinets located above the driver and front passenger seats may have been improperly installed during production. If the cabinet comes detached while the vehicle is in motion, the cabinet may impact the vehicle operator causing a loss of vehicle control which can result in crash. A crash can result in personal injury or death.
Instructions:
1. Verify that the rear of the cabinet is mounted all the way to the front edge of the bed deck. The rear stile of the cabinet will be screwed into the aluminum tube of the bed deck. (The aluminum tube is not visible on finished product.) This will line up the front edge of the cabinet to be screwed into the area of the EGS backer (EGS is not visible on finished product).
2. The screws into the front and rear stiles should be spaced at minimum every six (6) inches. If they are not, add additional screws as needed.
3. If further repairs are needed, please contact TMC directly at (877) 500-1020 for additional assistance.
Chronology :
2/7/2023 – NHTSA provided a VOQ regarding overhead cabinets coming loose in a Windsport.
2/7/2023 – Research began in to claims data and with engineering on the installation of the cabinets.
2/13/2023 – TMC used claims data to update the heat map used in previous filing to aid in establishing the scope of units involved along with on an ECN that was put in place to add an additional aluminum tube to aid in the installation of overhead cabinets dated 9/15/2020.
2/15/2023 – Based on the information found in claims research, ECN, and the heat map the TMC safety committee will be meeting on 2/21/2023 to review and vote on next steps.
2/21/2023 – TMC’s safety committee met and voted to recall all Windsport/Hurricane units built from 7/13/2018 – 10/1/2020.
The claim count summary for determining this recall was 70 claims with dates ranging from 8/29/2018 – 2/6/2023. There were zero injuries or deaths reported in this data.

Motor Coach (TMC) has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model 2018 – 2021
Hurricane & Windsport motorhomes. As a result, TMC is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for any inconvenience
this action may cause you; however, your safety and continued satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.
It has been discovered that on certain model year 2018-2021 Hurricane and Windsport
motorhomes, the overhead cabinets located above the driver and front passenger seats may have
been improperly installed during production. If the cabinet comes detached while the vehicle is in
motion, the cabinet may impact the vehicle operator causing a loss of vehicle control which can
result in a crash. A crash can result in personal injury or death.
TMC has contacted your selling dealer and has instructed them on how to verify the overhead
cabinets were installed properly. If the cabinets are found to be loose, the cabinets will be
properly secured per dealer instructions. This will all be completed free of charge (parts and
labor) to you the owner. This remedy should take approximately 15 minutes to perform.
At your earliest convenience, please contact your dealer and schedule an appointment to have
this remedy completed. To locate the nearest authorized TMC service center, please visit

if you have questions concerning this recall or if you need any assistance, please contact the

It has been discovered that on certain model year 2018-2021 Hurricane and Windsport motorhomes, the overhead cabinets located above the driver and front passenger seats may have been improperly installed during production. If the cabinet comes detached while the vehicle is in motion, the cabinet may impact the vehicle operator causing a loss of vehicle control which can result in crash. A crash can result in personal injury or death.
The required action is to verify the overhead cabinets were installed properly. If the cabinets are found to be loose, the cabinets will be properly secured per the provided dealer instructions. The remedy should take approximately up to 15 minutes to perform.
Dealers that have stock units impacted by this recall can access the full list of affected VINs sold to their dealership by accessing the “Service Campaign” portion of the TMC Advantage Web Portal. If any unit on this list has been retail sold you are asked to notify the retail owner as soon as possible of this recall because their vehicle was not registered at the time the retail notice was mailed. Please immediately register any retail sold units on this list. As a reminder, you are required by law to complete this recall on any stock units in inventory prior to retail sale. Any vehicle lessor receiving this notice must forward a copy to the lessee within 10 days.

2/7/2023 – NHTSA provided a VOQ regarding overhead cabinets coming loose in a Windsport. 2/7/2023 – Research began in to claims data and with engineering on the installation of the cabinets.
2/13/2023 – TMC used claims data to update the heat map used in previous filing to aid in establishing the scope of units involved along with on an ECN that was put in place to add an additional aluminum tube to aid in the installation of overhead cabinets dated 9/15/2020. 2/15/2023 – Based on the information found in claims research, ECN, and the heat map the TMC safety committee will be meeting on 2/21/2023 to review and vote on next steps. 2/21/2023 – TMC’s safety committee met and voted to recall all Windsport/Hurricane units built from 7/13/2018 – 10/1/2020. Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : The recall population will be inspected to verify the overhead cabinets
were installed properly. If the cabinets are found to be loose, the cabinets will be reinstalled per dealer instructions. TMC will provide reimbursement based on general reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : None Warranty data & ECN indicate the issue was corrected in production after 9/15/2020. Recall Schedule :
Description of Recall Schedule : TMC will notify the dealers and owners of the recreational vehicles by
letter. A final copy of the owner letter will be provided to NHTSA, along with the dealer repair procedures.
