Units not included in the recall scope were weighed on the “A” scale and limited to a single production line. There are 24 Grand Design 2023 Momentum Fifth Wheel trailers included in the scope. Production Dates : MAR 21, 2023 – JUN 06, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : 573FM4638PBB00946 End : 573FM382XPBB01336 ✔ Not sequential Description of Noncompliance : Description of the Noncompliance : Due to a scale malfunction, unit cargo carrying capacities listed on the Federal Certification Label are overrated. FMVSS 1 : 110 – Tire selection and rims FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Due to inaccurate trailer weight, an owner could unintentionally load the trailer beyond it’s intended capacity. An overloaded trailer can increase the risk of crash and injury. Description of the Cause : The noncompliance issue was caused due to a sensor failure in a secondary weight scale. This led to weight data being entered incorrect on the Cargo Carrying Capacity label. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : Signs of overload can cause the trailer to tow erratically, especially at higher speeds. It can also cause damage to suspension components, including axle springs, tires and rims. The PDI Manager was notified and determined the root cause and associated date of the scale failure. Customer service was notified. • June 12, 2023 – Grand Design Customer Service performed due diligence to determine scope. • June 13, 2023 – Grand Design Customer Service presented to Produce Safety Review Committee and it was determined a field action was necessary. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : On affected vehicles with the incorrect cargo carrying capacity rating on the Federal Certification label, Grand Design Recreational Vehicles will notify retail owners and selling dealers of the concern and send a replacement label with correct information to the servicing dealer. Dealers will verify Federal Certification label information, remove the incorrect label and replace with the correct label. Retail owners that have paid to have this service performed will be reimbursed for any expenses they incurred. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The corrected Federal Certification label will reflect the correct cargo carrying capacity. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The sensor in the secondary “B” scale was replaced.
