Summary
Great Dane Trailers (Great Dane
) is recalling certain 2024 Champion and Everest dry van trailers equipped with Tire Pilot Plus-Electronic Regulator Control Unit assemblies. All 8 tires may experience a loss of tire pressure while driving faster than 45 mph.
Remedy
As an interim action, Great Dane will instruct owners to disable the Tire Pilot Plus system. The Interim corrective action will result in disconnected air supply hoses on all tires and at the ECU. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 8, 2023. Owners may contact Great Dane
customer service at 1-877-369-3493.

Under certain circumstances, the Tire Pilot Plus (TPP) tire pressure management system allows all 8 tires on a trailer to lose pressure. The condition exists on Tire Pilot Plus models with electronic control units which were first supplied to Great Dane
beginning on December 2022. TPP units that are controlled by a manual pressure adjustment feature are not impacted by the defect. Some trailers equipped with Tire Pilot Plus – Electronic Regulator Control Unit Assembly tire pressure regulation system (TPRS) are experiencing unintended loss of pressure of all 8 tires while traveling at speeds higher than 45 mph. This loss of pressure event occurs only on Tire Pilot Plus – Electronic Regulator Control Unit Assembly that was launched by SAF-HOLLAND in late 2022. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Reduced vehicle control and/or stability. Risk of tire tread separation and debris on the road, increasing the likelihood of a crash. The final corrective action will not be known until the root cause has been determined. SAF-HOLLAND will pay appropriate costs. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The Interim corrective action will result in disconnected air supply hoses on all tires and at the ECU. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Permanent corrective action for production processes will follow the root cause determination. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : An interim customer notification letter will, after NHTSA approval be mailed to all sold to customers. The letter will include a SAF-Holland service bulletin advising owners to disable their TPP System and telling them how to do so.
