Unsecured Brake Line May Become Damaged

Summary
Forest River Bus, LLC (Forest River
) is recalling certain 2024 Elkhart Coach ELKC transit buses. The brake lines may not be attached to the driver’s side frame rail. Unsecured brake line may contact the rail, damaging the lines and causing a loss of brake pressure.
Remedy
Dealers will secure and repair the rear brake lines, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 1, 2024. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service Phone Number 1-800-348-7440. Forest River
’s number for this recall is 05-1741.

SECURING BRAKE LINES TO CHASSIS

Purpose
This document outlines repairing a specific list of units that may have brake lines unsecured to the chassis.
The fix includes attaching P-clamps to secure brake lines to the chassis.
Resources Required
- Self-tapping screws, PN 2024006671
- Rubber P-clamps, PN 2023136417
- Cordless or electric drill or screw gun
- 3/16″ drill bit
Instructions
1. Identify manufacturing defect on the inside of the driverโs side frame rail, just under the rear cab mount (Figs. 1A and 2A).
2. Drill pilot hole in the chassis (3/16โ drill in one place) for a self-tapping screw between the brake lines.
This will be between the two brake line couplers, 4โ from top of frame rail and 4.5โ from the front of square hole (Fig. 3).
NOTE: Picture is from the inside of the drivers side frame rail.
3. Attach P-clamps around each line making sure the holes are to the center (Fig. 4A).
4. Screw the self-tapping screw through both holes of the brake line clamps (Figs. 5A and 6A).
NOTE: Fig. 7 shows the finished repair.
NOTE: Make sure the brake lines that run over the driverโs side frame rail are not touching the frame rail.
Fig. 8 shows the correct placement of the brake lines. If the brake lines touch the frame rail, the lines could develop a hole causing loss of brake pressure.
Chronology :
On February 20, 2024, Forest River’s Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”) was notified by its supplier, Lippert
Components, that when stretching the chassis, P-Clamps may not have been installed to hold the brake lines in place. OCC opened a research item.
On February 23, 2024, Forest Rivers Corporate Recall Committee voted to recall.

Description of Remedy Program : Forest River will provide all parts and labor free of charge to Consumers
and Dealers. An authorized Forest River dealer will need to perform the remedy to repair the rear brake lines.
