Descriptive Information : The recall population was determined based on product specifications associated with a specific firmware version and date range. Recalled products have a different firmware version, serial number, and date range than those not included in the recall.
This recall is based on information supplied by Weldon. Weldon provided a part number, serial numbers, and date range of product affected. E-ONE pulled a population by the part number and date range of product issued to determine the affected list. The chassis cab and emergency response vehicles affected by this recall are equipped with certain V-MUX Hercules HC 1.7 nodes with version 1.00 supplied by Weldon.

Description of the Defect : The node may not shut off the output pin if there is a short circuit in the vehicle wiring or other devices installed on the vehicle.

not turn off power. If the electrical circuit(s) become overloaded, depending on how the node is wired into the vehicle, including whether it is located near a fuel source, there is an increased risk of heat related damage or fire.

Refer to NHTSA Recall 24E-006 for Weldon’s chronology. November 2023 – Weldon filed a recall report (23E-084) for a similar type of device (multiplex node) after identifying an issue with the electrical current sensing calibration. Subsequently, Weldon reviewed the performance of a product with a similar function, the Hercules HC node. December 2023 – The results of Weldon’s initial testing indicated the Node fused internally and performed in a safe manner. January 2024 – Additional testing of production samples indicated that a short circuit in vehicle wiring could cause overheating of the node. January 24, 2024, Weldon decided to conduct a recall and issue a firmware update to remedy the issue. The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Part 573 Safety Recall Report 24V-194 Page 3 February 15, 2024 – E-ONE received information from Weldon regarding recall number 24E-006. E-ONE Quality Team Red Tagged and quarantined all inventory of this node, E-ONE part # 1143308. Since this part is utilized on every truck, all trucks on E-ONE properties were Red Tagged to prevent shipping until they were updated. February 20, 2024 – E-ONE determined the population of the trucks in the field. February 26, 2024 – Escalated the issue to REV Group Compliance.
March 5, 2024 – REV Group Recall Committee approved a voluntary recall for this issue. Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Update the installed firmware in the node using an updater application
that can be downloaded from the company website. The same updater used in Akron TSB 23-001 NHTSA 23E084 is used to update the firmware in the affected devices. Service provider will be compensated so there is no cost to vehicle owner for this firmware update. Weldon will update the firmware in the node as installed in affected vehicles and in OEM inventory that are within the identified version range. Weldon will evaluate and provide reimbursement for pre-notification remedies on an individual basis. Nothing needs to be removed from the truck, this is a firmware update accomplished by plugging into the truck to upload the latest firmware. E-ONE and Wheldon will provide any necessary assistance to complete this Recall free of charge. There is no charge to the Dealer or the Owner for this Recall. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Firmware number on the device determines the range of devices that shall be recalled. Version 1.00 to be recalled.
Weldon will notify affected vehicle owners of the recall upon NHTSA approval of the owner notification letter and upon receipt of customer contact information from each OEM. Weldon does not have dealers. The pace of sending the owner letters follows the availability of customer contact information from vehicle OEMs. The remedy process is the same as 23E084. Every truck utilizes at least one of the Nodes. On February 15, 2024, all trucks on E-ONE properties were Red Tagged to prevent shipping until they were updated. Simultaneously, E-ONE Quality Team Red Tagged and quarantined all inventory of this node, E-ONE part # 1143308.
