Summary
Stoughton Trailers, LLC (Stoughton) is recalling certain 2016-2019 DVW trailers. The forward attachment points for the pintle mounting assembly may crack, leading to the detachment of the pintle assembly from the trailer and therefore detaching the trailer in tow.
Remedy
Stoughton will notify owners, and dealers will repair the cracks and reinforce the mounting, free of charge. The recall began March 25, 2019. Owners may contact Stoughton customer service at 1-608-873-2580.

NHTSA Safety Recall #19V055
Dear Owner of STOUGHTON Brand Trailers,
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Stoughton Trailers, LLC (Stoughton) has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model years 2016, 2017 and 2019 model DVW STOUGHTON brand trailers. This recall will affect certain trailers built in 2015, 2016 and 2018 that are 28 ft long with certain bolt on pintle mounting assemblies.
The Stoughton Trailers recall has been assigned the NHTSA recall number 19V055.
Description of Defect:
The pintle hook assembly consist of the pintle mounting tube welded to plates on each side that are part of the vertical rear impact guard legs. This assembly is bolted to vertical plates on the bottom side of the rear frame sill and to the rear attachment plates of the suspension body rails. Fatigue cracks were found between the sill plates and the sill as well as the forward flanges on the rear impact guard legs where it bolts to the suspension body rails. If not corrected this could lead to the detachment of the pintle assembly from the trailer and therefore the detachment of the trailer in tow which may cause personal injury or death.
Remedy:
The remedy consists of repairing any existing fatigue cracks, adding reinforcements to the rear impact bumper legs and adding larger forward gussets. Specific instructions for your fleet repair will be provided (RD-00077) and will take approximately 5 man hours to complete. We will provide repair kits and send out representatives to instruct maintenance shops of your choice on how to install.
The cost of the repair will be covered by Stoughton Trailers at a rate of $325.00 per trailer. If you no longer own this trailer, please contact Stoughton to provide the new owner information. Stoughton will then contact the new owner. If you are the lessor of this vehicle, please forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within 10 days to comply with federal regulations.
If you have already paid to have your trailer repaired to correct the aforementioned conditions, you may be eligible for reimbursement of the charges you paid for that repair.
