Tie Rod may Detach from Front Axle Spindle
A loss of steering control from the tie rod connection breaking from the front axle spindle can increase the risk of a crash.
Summary
JH Global Services, Inc. (JH Global) is recalling certain 2017 Star EV Sport 4+2 vehicles. Due to a casting problem, the tie rod connection may break off from the front axle spindle resulting in a loss of steering control.
Remedy
JH Global has notified owners, and dealers will replace the front axle spindle, free of charge. The recall began on November 20, 2017. Owners may contact JH Global customer service at 1-888-878-9988. JH Global’s number for this recall is IRN 171101.

PURPOSE: REPLACE SUSPECT PART TO REMOVE RISK OF FAILURE.
RESULTS: PROPERLY FUNCTIONING STEERING SYSTEM ON HYDRAULIC SPORT MODEL.
PROCEDURE:
- Remove the cotter pin from the lower tie rod ball stud.
- Remove drag link tie rod end after removing the 18mm nylock nut.
- Remove tie rod link after removing 19mm castle nut.
- Remove the (4) 13mm nuts located on the back side of the axle housing flange. These fasteners secure the backing plate assembly.
- Remove the hub nut from the spindle shaft and pull the drum assembly.
- Remove the (4) 13mm fasteners show here.
- Place backing plate assembly safely to the side with hydraulics attached.
- Remove the 17mm kingpin fastener and nut.
- Remove king pin bushing.
- Remove Spindle assembly
Reverse procedure to install.
UPON COMPLETION!!!!
The dealer must provide a certificate of destruction (CoD) for each suspect spindle that is removed from a vehicle contained within the list of potentially affected cars. JH Global will accept video or photographic evidence as replacement for a CoD.
