Summary
Daimler Trucks North America, LLC. (DTNA) is recalling certain 2021 Saf-T-Liner C2 School Buses. The adjustable brake pedal arm may rotate from its original location due to an incorrect fit between the pedal adjustment tube and the upper brake arm casting.
Remedy
DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will install a new brake pedal assembly, free of charge. DTNA issued owners an interim notification on September 22, 2020. The recall began February 17, 2021. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA’s number for this recall is FL-857.

General Information
Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its wholly owned subsidiary, Freightliner
Custom Chassis Corporation, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on the vehicles mentioned above.
On certain vehicles, the adjustable brake pedal arm may rotate or bend from its original position. The rotation of the brake pedal may lead to driver difficulty locating the pedal during a braking event, increasing the risk of a crash.
The brake pedal assembly will be replaced. Repairs will be performed by Daimler Trucks North America authorized service facilities.
There are approximately 1700 vehicles involved in this campaign.
Additional Repairs
Dealers must complete all outstanding Recall and Field Service campaigns prior to the sale or delivery of a vehicle. A Dealer will be liable for any progressive damage that results from its failure to complete campaigns before sale or delivery of a vehicle.
Owners may be liable for any progressive damage that results from failure to complete campaigns within a reasonable time after receiving notification.

Please refer to the attached work instructions. Prior to performing the campaign, check the vehicle for a completion sticker (Form WAR260).

IMPORTANT: When the Recall has been completed, locate the base completion label in the appropriate loca- tion on the vehicle, and attach the red completion sticker provided in the recall kit (Form WAR260). If the ve- hicle does not have a base completion label, clean a spot on the appropriate location of the vehicle and first attach the base completion label (Form WAR259). Claims for Credit
You will be reimbursed for your parts, labor, and handling (landed cost for Export Distributors) by submitting your claim through the Warranty system within 30 days of completing this campaign. Please reference the following information in OWL:

- In the Parts field, enter the appropriate kit or part number(s) as shown in the Replacement Parts Table.
- In the Labor field, first enter the appropriate SRT from the Labor Allowance Table. Administrative time will be included automatically as SRT 939-6010A for 0.3 hours.
- The VMRS Component Code is F99-999-005 and the Cause Code is A1 – Campaign.
- U.S. and Canada — Reimbursement for Prior Repairs. When a customer asks about reimbursement, please do the following:

Please note that the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, as amended (Title 49, United States Code, Chapter 301), requires the ownerโs vehicle(s) be corrected within a reasonable time after parts are available to you. The Act states that failure to repair a vehicle within 60 days after tender for repair shall be prima facie evidence of an unreasonable time. However, circumstances of a particular situation may reduce the 60 day period. Failure to repair a vehicle within a reasonable time can result in either the obligation to (a) replace the vehicle with an identical or reasonably equivalent vehicle, without charge, or (b) refund the purchase price in full, less a reasonable allowance for depreciation. The Act further prohibits dealers from selling a vehicle unless all outstanding recalls are performed. Any lessor is required to send a copy of the recall notification to the lessee within 10 days. Reimbursement to Customers for Repairs
Performed Prior to Recall
If you have already paid to have this recall condition corrected you may be eligible to receive reimbursement. Requests for reimbursement may include parts and labor. Reimbursement may be limited to the amount the repair would have cost if completed by an authorized Daimler Trucks North America LLC dealer. The following documentation must be presented to your dealer for consideration for reimbursement.
Please provide original or clear copies of all receipts, invoices, and repair orders that show:
- The name and address of the person who paid for the repair
- The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the vehicle that was repaired
- What problem occurred, what repair was done, when the repair was done
- Who repaired the vehicle
- The total cost of the repair expense that is being claimed
- Proof of payment for the repair (such as the front and back of a cancelled check or a credit card receipt) Reimbursement will be made by check from your Daimler Trucks

Pneumatic Adjustable Brake Pedal Replacement
1. Inspect the base label (Form WAR259) for a campaign completion sticker for FL857 (Form WAR260). If a sticker is present for FL857, no work is needed. If there is no sticker, proceed with the steps below.
2. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and apply the parking brake. Chock the tires.
3. Using the battery disconnect switch, located in battery compartment, shut off the battery power. See Fig. 1.
4. Drain the air from the air tanks by pumping the brake pedal until the tanks are empty.
NOTE: Before removing the red and green air lines, make a note of their location at the top of the treadle valve for later use.
5. Disconnect the 3/8-inch red and green air lines from the top fittings of the treadle valve. See Fig. 2.

6. Remove the three fasteners that attach the treadle valve to the adjustable pedal assembly. With the remaining hoses and harness still attached, secure the treadle valve out of the way. See Fig. 3 for the location of the fasteners.
7. Disconnect the brake pedal adjustment cable under the dash. See Fig. 4.

NOTICE
Carefully remove the pedal assembly from the engine side of the cowling to avoid damaging the gasket (not shown) between the base plate and cowl.
8. Using a star bit tipped socket, remove and discard the brake pedal assembly mounting hardware, then re- move the brake pedal assembly. See Fig. 5.

9. Retain the dust boot and plunger (covered by the dust boot) from the brake pedal assembly for later use. See Fig. 6.

IMPORTANT: The split roll pin must be tapped out from the passenger side toward the driver side (right to left).
10. Using a hammer and punch, tap the split roll pin from the passenger side toward the driver side, from the upper brake arm out of the pedal mounting base plate. See Fig. 7.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the split roll pin is fully engaged on both sides of the casting.
11. Install the new brake pedal arm and carefully drive a new split roll pin in from the driver-side of the base plate casting assembly. See Fig. 8.

12. Install the treadle valve plunger and dust boot, that was set aside earlier, on the brake pedal base.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the gasket between the brake pedal mounting base and cab front wall is properly seated when installing the brake pedal assembly.
13. Install the brake pedal assembly through the cowl and attach it with four new screws and washers. The new screws should come with thread lock patch applied to them. Tighten the screws 12ยฑ1 lbfยทft (16ยฑ1 Nยทm). See Fig. 5.
14. Using new fasteners, install the treadle valve assembly. Tighten the fasteners 13 lbfยทft (18 Nยทm). See Fig. 9.

15. Attach the air lines removed earlier. Ensure that all of the other air lines and the brake pressure switches are connected and the harness is properly routed.
16. Turn the battery disconnect switch back on, then start the engine and build air pressure. Once full air pressure is reached, shut down the engine.
17. Using the adjustable pedal switch, adjust the accelerator pedal so that it is at the same approximate distance as the brake pedal.
18. Connect the brake pedal adjustment cable to the brake pedal. See Fig. 4.
19. Verify that the brake pedal does not pinch or rub any wires, air lines, or anything else in the path of full brake pedal travel.
20. Verify that both the brake and accelerator pedals travel the full adjustment lengths. If not, disconnect the brake pedal adjustment cable and adjust the accelerator pedal again using the pedal adjustment switch, then connect the brake adjustment cable.
21. Verify there are no air leaks. Depress the brake pedal, checking for resistance or tight spots on the spool valve inside the treadle valve. It should operate freely without any binding or resistance.
22. Clean a spot on the base label (Form WAR259) and attach a campaign completion sticker for FL857 (Form WAR260) indicating this work has been completed.
Hydraulic Adjustable Brake Pedal Replacement
1. Inspect the base label (Form WAR259) for a campaign completion sticker for FL857 (Form WAR260). If a sticker is present for FL857, no work is needed. If there is no sticker, proceed with the steps below.
2. Park the vehicle on a level surface, turn the steering wheel to a full left turn, shut down the engine, and apply the parking brake. Chock the tires.
3. Use the adjustable pedal switch to move the pedal assembly to the full-out position (this makes removing the pedal easier).
4. Unplug the brake relay connector from the brake relay mounted to the Hydromax on the lower-left of the adaptor plate; this removes power from the power wire and stud on the brake motor. See Fig. 10, item 2.

5. Use a 3/8 wrench to disconnect the power wire from the brake motor. See Fig. 10, item 3.
6. Remove the ground ring terminal from the lower bolt in the adaptor plate (not shown).
7. Remove the brake line retainer clip and flat washer and set them aside for later use. See Fig. 10, item 4.
8. Remove and discard the four bolts from the master cylinder brake booster to the adjustable brake pedal base. See Fig. 10, item 1.
9. Remove the four T45 Torxยฎ head mounting screws that attach the adjustable pedal housing to firewall and discard. See Fig. 11, item 1.

10. Disconnect the brake pedal adjustment cable under the dash. See Fig. 4.
IMPORTANT: Note the assembly of the clevis pin, nylon washers, and switch before removing them. This will ensure proper installation during assembly.
11. Remove the brake clevis pin and pedal switch by disconnecting the clip from the end of the pin and slide the pin out of the pedal. See Fig. 12.

12. Temporarily remove the rubber brake pedal pad and set it aside. This makes removal of the pedal assembly easier through the firewall.
13. Remove the brake pedal and adaptor plate assembly from the front of the firewall. Turn the pedal assembly and line up the pin to remove it from the firewall.
IMPORTANT: The split roll pin must be tapped out from the passenger side toward the driver side (right to left).
14. Using a hammer and punch, tap the split roll pin from the passenger side toward the driver side, from the upper brake arm out of the pedal mounting base plate. See 7.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the split roll pin is fully engaged on both sides of the casting.
15. Install the new brake pedal arm and carefully drive a new split roll pin in from the driver-side of the base plate casting assembly. See Fig. 8.
16. Replace the firewall gasket.
17. Install the pedal adaptor on the firewall.
18. Tighten the four T45 Torx head mounting screws that attach the adaptor plate to the firewall 12 lbfยทft (16 Nยทm). See Fig. 13, item 1.

19. Install the Hydromax booster/master cylinder assembly to the adaptor plate with new hardware. Tighten 34 lbfยทft (46 Nยทm). See Fig. 13, item 2.
20. Connect the power wire to the brake motor.
21. Install the ground ring terminal to the Hydromax adaptor plate.
22. Connect the brake motor relay connector.
23. Install the master cylinder brake line retainer clip.
24. Inside the bus cab, reposition the Hydromax clevis around the brake pedal arm. Ensure that the rubber bumper stop on the adaptor plate is in the correct position. When pulling up on the pedal you should feel the rubber bumper compress.
IMPORTANT: The brake pedal switch must move freely and not have any interference from wiring or air lines.
25. Install the nylon washers and brake pedal switch, then install the clevis pin. Ensure that all items are in- stalled in the order they were removed earlier.
26. Install the brake pedal pad.
27. Use the adjustable brake pedal switch to put the accelerator pedal and brake pedal in approximately even positions.
28. Attach the drive cable to the brake pedal connector.
29. Verify that both the brake and accelerator pedals travel the full adjustment lengths. If not, disconnect the brake pedal adjustment cable and adjust the accelerator pedal again using the pedal adjustment switch, then connect the brake adjustment cable.
30. Test the Hydromax booster. You should hear an electric motor hum when depressing the brake pedal. If not make sure all connections at the relay and motor are seated properly.
The Hydromax booster should stop running when the brake pedal is released.
31. Verify that the brake lights operate correctly.
32. Start the engine and depress the brake pedal hard several times. Ensure that the Hydromax booster is functional.
33. Turn the engine off.
34. Inspect the Hydromax for any brake fluid or hydraulic fluid leaks including the power steering output line at the top of the booster.
35. Clean a spot on the base label (Form WAR259) and attach a campaign completion sticker for FL857 (Form WAR260) indicating this work has been completed.

a review of the suspect population in the field, warranty, and field reports, and investigated to determine
the risk to vehicle safety. July 22, 2020, after conclusion of the in-depth investigation, DTNA, with an
abundance of caution, decided to initiate a voluntary recall to campaign vehicles with the suspected
brake pedal assembly. September 25, 2020 DTNA notified owners of an interim recall notice for
campaign FL-857. September 2020 the supplier discovered deformation of the tube assembly during a
validation test on another component requested vehicles to be placed on hold for further analysis. The
analysis indicated slight deformation in the tube during load testing. DTNA began reviewing warranty
and field complaints. The review indicated no reported failures in the field. Late October 2020, the
supplier provided a recommendation to replace all brake pedal assemblies. November 3, 2020 DTNA,
with an abundance of caution, decided to expand FL-857 to campaign vehicles with the suspected brake
pedal assembly. April 1, 2021, DTNA revised the descriptive information and remedy details.

Remplacement de la pรฉdale de frein pneumatique rรฉglable
1. Examinez lโรฉtiquette de base (formulaire WAR259) pour voir si elle comporte un autocollant de parachรจvement
pour le rappel FL857 (formulaire WAR260). Si un autocollant pour la campagne FL857 est prรฉsent,
aucune intervention nโest requise. Si aucun autocollant nโest prรฉsent, passez aux รฉtapes suivantes.
2. Stationnez le vรฉhicule sur une surface de niveau, arrรชtez le moteur et engagez le frein de stationnement.
Calez les roues.
3. ร lโaide de lโinterrupteur gรฉnรฉral, situรฉ dans le compartiment des batteries, coupez lโalimentation รฉlectrique
par les batteries. Reportez-vous ร la Figure 1.
4. Videz lโair des rรฉservoirs dโair en pompant la pรฉdale de frein jusquโร ce que les rรฉservoirs soient vides.
REMARQUE : Avant de retirer les conduites dโair comprimรฉ rouge et verte, notez leur emplacement en haut du
robinet de freinage ร pied, afin de pouvoir les rรฉutiliser plus tard.
5. Dรฉbranchez les conduites dโair comprimรฉ rouge et verte de 9,5 mm (3/8 po) des raccords supรฉrieurs du
robinet de la pรฉdale. Reportez-vous ร la Figure 2.

6. Retirez les trois piรจces de fixation qui fixent le robinet de la pรฉdale au bloc pรฉdale de frein rรฉglable. Tout en
maintenant les autres tuyaux flexibles et faisceau de cรขblage attachรฉs, รฉcartez le robinet de freinage ร pied
et maintenez-le sur le cรดtรฉ. Reportez-vous ร la Figure 3 pour connaรฎtre lโemplacement des piรจces de fixation.

12. Installez le plongeur du robinet de freinage ร pied et le soufflet antipoussiรจre, mis de cรดtรฉ prรฉcรฉdemment,
sur la base de la pรฉdale de frein.
IMPORTANT : Lors de lโinstallation du bloc pรฉdale de frein, assurez-vous que le joint entre la base de montage
de la pรฉdale de frein et la paroi avant de la cabine est correctement installรฉ.
13. Installez le bloc pรฉdale de frein ร travers le capot, puis fixez-le avec quatre vis et rondelles neuves. Les
nouvelles vis doivent รชtre installรฉes en utilisant de lโadhรฉsif frein-filet. Serrez les vis ร un couple de 16ยฑ1
Nยทm (12ยฑ1 lbfยทpi). Reportez-vous ร la Figure 5.
14. A lโaide des piรจces de fixation neuves, installez le robinet de freinage ร pied. Serrez les attaches ร un
couple de 18 Nยทm (13 lbf ยทpi). Reportez-vous ร la Figure 9.

15. Fixez les conduites dโair retirรฉes prรฉcรฉdemment. Assurez-vous que toutes les autres conduites dโair et les
manocontacteurs de freinage sont connectรฉs et que le faisceau de cรขblage est correctement acheminรฉ.
16. Remettez lโinterrupteur gรฉnรฉral en marche, puis dรฉmarrez le moteur et augmentez la pression dโair. Une
fois la pression dโair maximale atteinte, arrรชtez le moteur.
17. Utilisez le contacteur de la pรฉdale rรฉglable pour rรฉgler la pรฉdale dโaccรฉlรฉrateur de maniรจre ร ce quโelle soit
approximativement ร la mรชme distance que la pรฉdale de frein.
18. Dรฉbranchez le cรขble de rรฉglage de la pรฉdale de frein. Reportez-vous ร la Figure 4.
19. Vรฉrifiez que la pรฉdale de frein ne pince ni ne frotte les fils, les conduites dโair ou quoi que ce soit dโautre
sur la trajectoire de la course complรจte de la pรฉdale de frein.
20. Vรฉrifiez que les pรฉdales de frein et dโaccรฉlรฉrateur parcourent leur course complรจte de rรฉglage. Sinon, dรฉbranchez
le cรขble de rรฉglage de la pรฉdale de frein et rรฉglez ร nouveau la pรฉdale dโaccรฉlรฉrateur ร lโaide du
commutateur de rรฉglage de la pรฉdale, puis rebranchez le cรขble de rรฉglage du frein.
21. Vรฉrifiez quโil nโy a pas de fuite dโair. Appuyez sur la pรฉdale de frein, en vรฉrifiant la rรฉsistance ou les points
serrรฉs sur le distributeur ร tiroir ร lโintรฉrieur du robinet de freinage ร pied. Elle doit fonctionner librement,
sans aucune contrainte ni rรฉsistance.
22. Nettoyez un emplacement sur lโรฉtiquette de base (formulaire WAR259) et collez un autocollant de
parachรจvement (Formulaire WAR260) pour la campagne FL857 pour indiquer que le travail a รฉtรฉ effectuรฉ.
Remplacement de la pรฉdale de frein hydraulique rรฉglable
1. Examinez lโรฉtiquette de base (formulaire WAR259) pour voir si elle comporte un autocollant de parachรจvement
pour le rappel FL857 (formulaire WAR260). Si un autocollant pour la campagne FL857 est prรฉsent,
aucune intervention nโest requise. Si aucun autocollant nโest prรฉsent, passez aux รฉtapes suivantes.
2. Garez le vรฉhicule sur une surface plane et ferme, tournez le volant complรจtement vers la gauche, arrรชtez le
moteur, puis serrez le frein de stationnement. Calez les roues.
3. Utilisez le contacteur de la pรฉdale rรฉglable pour dรฉplacer le bloc pรฉdale en position complรจtement sortie
(cela facilite le retrait de la pรฉdale).
4. Dรฉbranchez le connecteur du relais de frein du relais de frein montรฉ sur lโHydromax, dans la partie infรฉrieure
gauche de la plaque dโadaptation. Cela coupe lโalimentation cรขble fil dโalimentation et du goujon sur
le moteur du frein. Reportez-vous ร la Figure 10, รฉlรฉment 2.

5. Utilisez une clรฉ de 9,5 mm (3/8 po) pour dรฉbrancher le cรขble dโalimentation du moteur de frein. Reportezvous

6. Dรฉposez la cosse annelรฉe de mise ร la masse du boulon infรฉrieur de la plaque dโadaptation (non illustrรฉe).
7. Retirez lโattache de la conduite de frein et la rondelle plate et mettez-les de cรดtรฉ, afin de pouvoir les rรฉutiliser
plus tard. Reportez-vous ร la Figure 10, รฉlรฉment 4.
8. Retirez et jetez les quatre boulons entre le servomoteur du maรฎtre-cylindre et la base de la pรฉdale de frein
rรฉglable. Reportez-vous ร la Figure 10, รฉlรฉment 1.
9. Retirez les quatre vis de montage ร tรชte Torx T45MD qui fixent le boรฎtier de la pรฉdale rรฉglable au pare-feu,
puis mettez-les au rebut. Reportez-vous ร la Figure 11, รฉlรฉment 1.

11. Retirez lโaxe de chape du frein et le contacteur de la pรฉdale en dรฉconnectant lโattache de lโextrรฉmitรฉ de la

13. Retirez le bloc pรฉdale de frein et plaque dโadaptation de lโavant du pare-feu. Tournez le bloc pรฉdale et
alignez lโaxe de chape pour retirer le bloc ร travers le pare-feu.

14. A lโaide dโun marteau et dโun poinรงon, tapotez sur la goupille cylindrique fendue du cรดtรฉ passager vers le

Figure 7.

19. Installez lโensemble servomoteur/maรฎtre-cylindre Hydromax sur la plaque dโadaptation avec le nouveau matรฉriel
de fixation. Serrez lโรฉcrou ร un couple de 46 Nยทm (34 lbfยทpi). Reportez-vous ร la Figure 13, รฉlรฉment 2.
20. Branchez le fil dโalimentation au moteur de frein.
21. Installez la cosse annelรฉe de mise ร la masse sur la plaque dโadaptation Hydromax.
22. Dรฉbranchez le connecteur du relais du moteur de frein.
23. Installez lโattache de la conduite de frein du maรฎtre-cylindre.
24. ร lโintรฉrieur de la cabine de lโautobus, repositionnez la chape Hydromax autour du bras de la pรฉdale de
frein. Assurez-vous que la butรฉe de dรฉbattement en caoutchouc sur la plaque dโadaptation est dans la
bonne position. Lorsque vous tirez sur la pรฉdale, vous devriez sentir la butรฉe de dรฉbattement en caoutchouc
se comprimer.
IMPORTANT : Le contacteur de la pรฉdale de frein doit se dรฉplacer librement et ne pas รชtre perturbรฉ dโaucune
maniรจre par le cรขblage ou les conduites dโair.
25. Installez les rondelles en nylon et le contacteur de la pรฉdale de frein, puis installez lโaxe de chape. Assurezvous
que tous les รฉlรฉments sont installรฉs dans lโordre dans lequel ils ont รฉtรฉ retirรฉs prรฉcรฉdemment.
26. Installez le patin de la pรฉdale de frein.
27. Utilisez le contacteur de la pรฉdale de frein rรฉglable pour placer la pรฉdale dโaccรฉlรฉrateur et la pรฉdale de
frein dans des positions ร peu prรจs alignรฉes.
28. Fixez le cรขble dโentraรฎnement au connecteur de la pรฉdale de frein.
29. Vรฉrifiez que les pรฉdales de frein et dโaccรฉlรฉrateur parcourent leur course complรจte de rรฉglage. Sinon, dรฉbranchez
le cรขble de rรฉglage de la pรฉdale de frein et rรฉglez ร nouveau la pรฉdale dโaccรฉlรฉrateur ร lโaide du
commutateur de rรฉglage de la pรฉdale, puis rebranchez le cรขble de rรฉglage du frein.

30. Testez le servomoteur Hydromax. Vous devriez entendre un bourdonnement du moteur รฉlectrique lorsque
vous appuyez sur la pรฉdale de frein. Si ce nโest pas le cas, assurez-vous que toutes les connexions au relais
et au moteur sont correctement installรฉes.
Le servomoteur Hydromax doit sโarrรชter de fonctionner lorsque la pรฉdale de frein est relรขchรฉe.
31. Vรฉrifiez que les feux de freinage fonctionnent correctement.

Informaciรณn general
Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA), en representaciรณn de la subsidiaria de su propiedad Freightliner
Custom Chassis Corporation, ha decidido que existe un defecto relacionado con la seguridad de los vehรญculos
automotores mencionados anteriormente.
En ciertos vehรญculos, el brazo del pedal de freno ajustable puede doblarse o girar de su posiciรณn original. La
rotaciรณn del pedal del freno puede provocar que el conductor tenga dificultades para ubicar el pedal durante un
frenado, lo que aumenta el riesgo de un choque.
Se reemplazarรก el conjunto del pedal de freno. Las reparaciones se realizarรกn en las instalaciones de servicio
autorizadas de Daimler Trucks North America.
Existen aproximadamente 1700 vehรญculos involucrados en esta campaรฑa.
Reparaciones adicionales

Reemplazo del pedal de freno ajustable neumรกtico
1. Inspeccione la etiqueta base (Formulario WAR259) para observar si existe una etiqueta de terminaciรณn de
campaรฑa correspondiente a la campaรฑa FL857 (Formulario WAR260). Si hay una etiqueta para FL857, no
es necesario el trabajo. Si no hay una etiqueta, continรบe con los pasos a continuaciรณn.
2. Estacione el vehรญculo en una superficie a nivel, pare el motor y ponga los frenos de estacionamiento. Bloquee
las ruedas.
3. Usando el interruptor de desconexiรณn de la baterรญa, ubicado en el compartimiento de la baterรญa, apague la
energรญa de la baterรญa. Vea la Figura 1.
4. Drene el aire de los tanques de aire bombeando el pedal del freno hasta que los tanques estรฉn vacรญos.
NOTA: Antes de quitar las tuberรญas de aire roja y verde, anote su ubicaciรณn en la parte superior de la vรกlvula
del pedal para su uso posterior.
5. Desconecte las tuberรญas de aire roja y verde de 3/8 de pulgada de los accesorios superiores de la vรกlvula

NOTICE

10. Con un martillo y un punzรณn, golpee ligeramente el pasador de rodillo dividido desde el lado del pasajero

12. Instale el รฉmbolo de la vรกlvula del pedal y la funda antipolvo, que se apartรณ anteriormente, en la base del
pedal del freno.
IMPORTANTE: Asegรบrese de que la junta entre la base de montaje del pedal del freno y la pared delantera de
la cabina estรฉ asentada correctamente al instalar el conjunto del pedal del freno.
13. Instale el conjunto del pedal de freno a travรฉs del cubretablero y fรญjelo con cuatro tornillos y arandelas nuevos.
Los tornillos nuevos deben venir con un parche de bloqueo de rosca aplicado. Apriete los tornillos a un
par de 12ยฑ1 lbfยทft (16ยฑ1 Nยทm). Vea la Figura 5.
14. Con nuevos sujetadores, instale el conjunto de la vรกlvula del pedal. Apriete las tuercas a un par de 18 Nยทm
(13 lbfยทpie). Vea la Figura 9.

15. Conecte las tuberรญas de aire que quitรณ antes. Asegรบrese de que todas las demรกs tuberรญas de aire y los interruptores

19. Verifique que el pedal del freno no pellizque ni frote ningรบn cable, tuberรญa de aire o cualquier otra cosa en
el camino del recorrido completo del pedal del freno.
20. Verifique que tanto el pedal del freno como el del acelerador recorran toda la longitud de ajuste. Si no es
asรญ, desconecte el cable de ajuste del pedal del freno y ajuste el pedal del acelerador nuevamente usando
el interruptor de ajuste del pedal, luego conecte el cable de ajuste del freno.
21. Verifique que no haya fugas de aire. Presione el pedal del freno, verificando la resistencia o los puntos
apretados en la vรกlvula de carrete dentro de la vรกlvula del pedal. Debe funcionar libremente sin ningรบn tipo
de atascamiento o resistencia.
22. Limpie un espacio en la etiqueta base (Formulario WAR259) y coloque una etiqueta de terminaciรณn de
FL857 (Formulario WAR260) que indique que se completรณ el trabajo.
Reemplazo del pedal de freno hidrรกulico ajustable
1. Inspeccione la etiqueta base (Formulario WAR259) para observar si existe una etiqueta de terminaciรณn de
campaรฑa correspondiente a la campaรฑa FL857 (Formulario WAR260). Si hay una etiqueta para FL857, no
es necesario el trabajo. Si no hay una etiqueta, continรบe con los pasos a continuaciรณn.
2. Estacione el vehรญculo en una superficie nivelada, gire el volante completamente a la izquierda, apague el
motor y aplique el freno de mano. Bloquee las ruedas.
3. Utilice el interruptor de pedal ajustable para mover el conjunto del pedal a la posiciรณn de salida completa
(esto facilita la extracciรณn del pedal).
4. Desenchufe el conector del relรฉ de freno del relรฉ de freno montado en el Hydromax en la parte inferior izquierda
de la placa adaptadora; esto quita energรญa del cable de alimentaciรณn y el perno del motor de freno.

5. Utilice una llave de 3/8 para desconectar el cable de alimentaciรณn del motor de freno. Vea la Figura 10,
elemento 3.
6. Retire el terminal del anillo de tierra del perno inferior en la placa adaptadora (no se muestra).
7. Retire el sujetador de retenciรณn de la lรญnea de freno y la arandela plana y dรฉjelos a un lado para usarlos
mรกs adelante. Vea la Figura 10, elemento 4.
8. Retire y deseche los cuatro pernos del servofreno del cilindro maestro a la base del pedal de freno ajustable.

9. Retire los cuatro tornillos de montaje de cabeza Torxยฎ T45 que sujetan la carcasa del pedal ajustable al

10. Desconecte el cable de ajuste del pedal del freno debajo del tablero. Vea la Figura 4.
IMPORTANTE: Observe el ensamblaje del pasador de horquilla, las arandelas de nailon y el interruptor antes
de quitarlos. Esto asegurarรก una instalaciรณn adecuada durante el montaje.
11. Retire el pasador de horquilla del freno y el interruptor del pedal desconectando el sujetador del extremo
del pasador y deslice el pasador hacia afuera del pedal. Vea la Figura 12.

12. Retire temporalmente la pastilla de goma del pedal del freno y dรฉjela a un lado. Esto facilita la extracciรณn
del conjunto del pedal a travรฉs del cortafuegos.
13. Retire el pedal del freno y el conjunto de la placa adaptadora de la parte frontal del cortafuegos. Gire el
conjunto del pedal y alinee el pasador para quitarlo del cortafuegos.
IMPORTANTE: El pasador de rodillo dividido debe extraerse desde el lado del pasajero hacia el lado del conductor
(de derecha a izquierda).
14. Con un martillo y un punzรณn, golpee ligeramente el pasador de rodillo dividido desde el lado del pasajero
hacia el lado del conductor, desde el brazo superior del freno hacia afuera de la placa base de montaje del
pedal. Vea la Figura 7.
IMPORTANTE: Asegรบrese de que el pasador de rodillo dividido estรฉ completamente enganchado en ambos
lados de la pieza fundida.
15. Instale el nuevo brazo del pedal de freno e introduzca con cuidado un nuevo pasador de rodillo dividido
desde el lado del conductor del conjunto de pieza fundida de la placa base. Vea la Figura 8.
16. Reemplace la junta del cortafuegos.
17. Instale el adaptador de pedal en el cortafuegos.
18. Apriete los cuatro tornillos de montaje de cabeza Torx T45 que sujetan la placa adaptadora al cortafuegos a
12 lbfยทft (16 Nยทm). Vea la Figura 13, elemento 1.

19. Instale el conjunto del cilindro maestro/servo Hydromax en la placa adaptadora con nuevos accesorios.
Apriete a un par de 34 lbยทpie (46 Nยทm). Vea la Figura 13, elemento 2.
20. Conecte el cable de alimentaciรณn al motor de freno.
21. Instale el terminal de anillo de tierra en la placa adaptadora Hydromax.
22. Conecte el conector del relรฉ del motor de freno.
23. Instale el sujetador de retenciรณn de la tuberรญa del freno del cilindro maestro.
24. Dentro de la cabina del autobรบs, vuelva a colocar la horquilla Hydromax alrededor del brazo del pedal del
freno. Asegรบrese de que el tope de goma de la placa adaptadora estรฉ en la posiciรณn correcta. Al tirar del
pedal, debe sentir que el tope de goma se comprime.
IMPORTANTE: El interruptor del pedal del freno debe moverse libremente y no tener ninguna interferencia del
cableado o las tuberรญas de aire.
25. Instale las arandelas de nailon y el interruptor del pedal de freno, luego instale el pasador de horquilla.
Asegรบrese de que todos los elementos estรฉn instalados en el orden en que se quitaron anteriormente.
26. Instale las pastillas del pedal del freno.
27. Utilice el interruptor del pedal de freno ajustable para poner el pedal del acelerador y el pedal del freno en
posiciones aproximadamente iguales.
28. Conecte el cable de transmisiรณn al conector del pedal de freno.
29. Verifique que tanto el pedal del freno como el del acelerador recorran toda la longitud de ajuste. Si no es
asรญ, desconecte el cable de ajuste del pedal del freno y ajuste el pedal del acelerador nuevamente usando
el interruptor de ajuste del pedal, luego conecte el cable de ajuste del freno.

30. Pruebe el servo Hydromax. Deberรญa escuchar un zumbido de motor elรฉctrico al pisar el pedal del freno. Si
no es asรญ, asegรบrese de que todas las conexiones en el relรฉ y el motor estรฉn asentadas correctamente.
El servo Hydromax debe dejar de funcionar cuando se suelta el pedal del freno.
31. Verifique que las luces de freno funcionen correctamente.
32. Arranque el motor y presione el pedal del freno con fuerza varias veces. Asegรบrese de que el servo Hydromax
funcione.
33. Apague el motor.
34. Inspeccione el Hydromax en busca de lรญquido de frenos o fugas de lรญquido hidrรกulico, incluida la tuberรญa de
salida de la direcciรณn asistida en la parte superior del servomotor.
35. Limpie un espacio en la etiqueta base (Formulario WAR259) y coloque una etiqueta de terminaciรณn de
FL857 (Formulario WAR260) que indique que se completรณ el trabajo.
