Dear Valued Freightliner Sprinter Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Sprinter vans, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety
exists in certain Model Year 2019 – 2020 Freightliner Sprinter vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the
affected population of vehicles.
MBAG has determined that the brake caliper of the rear axle may leak brake fluid into the housing of the electric parking brake
connected to the rear axle service brake system, which could lead to extended brake pedal travel and a changed brake pedal
feel. If the condition is not addressed, there might be an increased risk of a crash.
MBAG is currently working on developing a final technical remedy and therefore, the parts to remedy this issue are
currently not yet available.
We are working to obtain the necessary parts to correct this condition as quickly as possible. As the parts become available, we will
send you another letter asking you to take your vehicle to an authorized Freightliner dealer to have the recall completed free of
charge.
Should you have any concerns or questions regarding your vehicle before you receive the next recall letter when parts are
available, please contact an authorized Freightliner dealer. If for any reason a dealer is unable to remedy your situation, we
are always happy to hear from you. A vehicle identification number (VIN)-based recall lookup tool on our website offers a search
function that will indicate whether a vehicle has been subject to a safety recall, and whether that vehicle has had the free remedy

6 Remove rear wheels.

from holder (2).
8 Disconnect electrical wiring
harness (4) from electrical wiring
harness (5) to electrical connector.
9 Remove electrical wiring harness
(5) from brake caliper (1).

To do this, remove screw (6).
10 Disconnect electrical connector (7)
from actuator motor (8).
11 Remove brake pads on rear axle.

Reuse brakepads.
12 Remove brake hose (9) on vehicle
side.

To do so, remove screw/bolt (11).
Replace bolt (11).

When replacing brake calipers (1),
only install brake calipers (1) from
the same manufacturer and model
on an axle.

15 Check brake hose (9) for damage. If damage exists,

24 Install electrical wiring harness on

mode.

service brake.
Otherwise, the spindle of the brake
caliper (1) will be damaged.
26 Bleed brake system.

For this, depress brake pedal
several times until the brake pads
contact the brake disks.
Firm resistance should be
noticeable at the brake pedal.
