Westport Inc. B6.7N natural gas engines (part number D1H3001BX03) equipped with certain engine control module calibrations. The engine control module software may be calibrated incorrectly, causing the engine to not limit engine speed or torque as intended for certain safety-related functions such as vehicle braking, traction and stability control, speed control, or collision avoidance.
Remedy
Cummins
will notify manufacturers and owners, and dealers will recalibrate the engine control module, free of charge. The recall began April 9, 2021. Owners may contact Cummins
customer service at 1-800-286-6467. Cummins

We are writing to inform you that Cummins
Westport Inc. has determined that a safety-related defect exists in certain B6.7N engines that were manufactured between February 6, 2018 and September 1, 2020. Cummins
Westport has initiated a recall of the subject engines. Our records indicate that some of these engines have been shipped to you.
A copy of Cummins
’ initial Part 573 Equpment Defect Report is enclosed. This notification was submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on February 17, 2021. As more fully described in the Defect Report, the engine may not limit engine torque or speed when it receives a J1939 TSC1 message. If this message is from certain electronic controllers on the vehicle that perform safety-related functions, this may increase the risk of a crash.
Enclosed is a list of Engine Serial Numbers for affected engines that our records indicate were shipped to your plants. For engines installed in vehicles that have left your control, we encourage you to make a safety defect determination in accordance with 49 USC 30118 et seq. and, as appropriate, to submit a Defect Notification to NHTSA in accordance with 49 CFR Part 573. will conduct the recall, including notifying owners pursuant to 49 CFR Part 577, performing the remedy, and submitting quarterly status reports to NHTSA. Cummins
is requesting that you provide the associated vehicle model identification, VINs and owner contact information to facilitate owner notification. Please work with your Cummins
account team leader to ensure that the requested information is provided to Cummins
as soon as possible.
For engines/vehicles that are still in your inventory, please contact the Customer Quality
Assurance representative at the Rocky Mount Engine Plant to arrange for repairs, as necessary. Please note that Federal law prohibits delivery of these engines, or vehicles equipped with these engines, under a sale or lease until this condition has been remedied.

DESCRIPTION:
This Safety Campaign authorizes certified repair locations to recalibrate the ECM of certain B6.7N CM2380 B150B. Due to an Engine Control Module (ECM) calibration error, the engine may not properly limit engine torque or speed when requested by certain electronic controllers on the vehicle. If the request comes from certain electronic controllers that perform safety-related functions (e.g., Traction Control or Collision Avoidance), this condition may increase the risk of a crash. This Safety Campaign corrects the calibration error with a revision to the calibration. This Safety Campaign has been assigned recall number 21E-009 by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Administration.
ACTION:
In order to qualify for repair under this field action, an engine:
- will be covered Regardless of coverage status, and
- must show as OPEN on QuickServe® Online for this field action.
NOTE: The ESN list is attached for reference.
After verifying that the engine meets the above requirements, perform the following actions:
- All eligible engines require the latest ECM calibration. To obtain a calibration via QuickServe® Online (QuickServe® Online), enter the Engine Serial Number into QuickServe® Online, click on the Service tab, then Related Information, then click on the Calibration Downloads link and enter the requested information to obtain a Zip file to recalibrate the ECM. Recalibrate the ECM as described in Procedure 019-032 in the appropriate Service Manual on QuickServe® Online.
- File one claim only for the applicable labor listed in this document. Provide documentation of the ECM calibration revision codes from before and after the recalibration in the claim narrative.

Westport Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain B6.7N Engines that were manufactured between February 6, 2019 and September 1, 2020.
This notice applies to your engine(s) listed in the table on the enclosed list.
WHY IS A RECALL BEING CONDUCTED?
Due to an Engine Control Module (ECM) calibration error, the engine may not properly limit engine torque or speed when requested by certain electronic controllers on the vehicle. If the request comes from certain electronic controllers that perform safety-related functions (e.g., Traction Control or Collision Avoidance), this condition may increase the risk of a crash.
WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT THE PROBLEM?

have released field Safety Campaign #C2409 “B6.7N 500k Baud Calibration Safety Campaign” to correct this condition by recalibrating the Engine Control Module with a corrected calibration. This campaign is currently available at Cummins
Distributors and authorized Warranty Dealers. The repair will be completed free of charge and most applications will require approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Distributor or authorized Warranty Dealer to arrange to have this campaign performed on your engine. The distributor or dealer will work with you to schedule the best date to complete this repair.
Federal law requires vehicle lessors receiving this recall notice to forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten (10) days. Also, it is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new vehicle or equipment covered by this recall notice under a sale or lease until the defect has been remedied.
