Late March, 2021, DTNA received initial metallurgical report for supplier showing potential for long term fatigue failure. Discussions with supplier ongoing. Early April 2021, even though DTNA is not aware of any field failures related to this concern, DTNA decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall while continuing to investigate the population. Identify the Remedy Describe the defect/noncompliance remedy program, including the manufacture’s plan for reimbursement: Tie rod arm bolts and steering arm bolts will be replaced. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person. Daimler Trucks North America LLC, on behalf of its DETROITTM Powertrain Division, has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists on certain Detroit Model 2 and 3 steer axles manufactured between Jan 7th, 2021 and Mar 15th, 2021. DTNA is initiating Recall Campaign D21R6 to replace the tie rod and steering arm bolts. On certain Detroit Model 2 and 3 steer axles, the tie rod arm and steering arm bolts used to assemble front axle assemblies have a lengthwise “seam” defect which increases stress concentration, potentially leading to bolt failure or loss of pre-load. At first review, records indicated that your vehicle(s) has one of the affected steering axles. However, further review revealed that the unit(s) listed below was corrected at the OEM manufacturing plant prior to release. Therefore this letter is to inform you that no further work is needed on the vehicle that corresponds to the identification number(s) listed below. If you feel this is not correct, please contact the Warranty Campaigns Department at the numbers below. If you do not own the vehicle that corresponds to the identification number(s), which appears on the Recall Notification, please return the notification to the Warranty Campaigns Department with any information you can furnish that will assist us in locating the present owner.
