Rear Brake Hose May Have Heat Damage
Damaged brake hoses may cause the rear brakes to fail, increasing the risk of a crash.
NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V335
Manufacturer Ducati North America
Components SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
Potential Number of Units Affected 1,312
Summary
Ducati North America (Ducati
) is recalling certain 2015-2021 Monster 821, 2014-2021 Monster 1200 S/STD, and 2016-2019 Monster 1200 R motorcycles. The rear brake hoses may be susceptible to heat damage.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the rear brake hoses, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 12, 2021. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-888-391-5446.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
The rear brake hoses installed on a specific batch of vehicles (Monster 821 and Monster 1200 only) may be subject to damage to the flexible plastic part due to excessive exposure to heat from the vertical head exhaust manifold. This can lead to a sudden loss of pressure in the rear braking system. In particular, this condition will occur if the motorcycle is left idling on the side stand or rear stand for prolonged periods of time (e.g. during warm-up or dealer service/diagnostics).
To solve this problem, new hoses with a longer length of the rigid (metal) section have been developed to move the flexible (plastic) part of the hose away from the hot air flow of the exhaust manifold.
Unfortunately, this means that some motorcycles on which the rear brake hoses have been recently replaced to solve the issue concerning brake lever elongation, must also be upgraded.
Customer Impact
All motorcycles in your inventory (to be registered or already registered) and to be delivered to final Customers must be updated during pre-delivery operations and always before delivery to the final Customer. All motorcycles already delivered to final Customers must undergo this update as soon as they come to your workshop.

Owner, This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Ducati
Motor Holding S.P.A. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Monster Vehicles as listed above. Our records indicate that you are the owner of a Ducati
motorcycle affected by this safety recall campaign. Please take the time to read this letter and help us take the appropriate steps to ensure that your vehicle is operating properly. What is wrong? Rear brake hoses installed on a specific batch of motorcycles (Monster 821 and Monster 1200 versions only) may be subject to damage to the flexible plastic part due to excessive exposure to heat from the vertical head exhaust manifold. This can lead to a sudden loss of pressure in the rear braking system. In particular, this condition will occur if the motorcycle is left idling on the side stand or rear stand for prolonged periods of time (e.g. during warm-up). To solve this problem, new hoses with a longer length of the rigid (metal) section have been developed to move the flexible (plastic) part of the hose away from the hot air flow of the exhaust manifold. The front and rear brake system for this motorcycle are hydraulically independent; therefore, performance of the front brake, which provides full stopping ability, is NOT affected by the rear brake system.
