Summary
Customer Advisory Letter on Enabling the Stay Warm Feature
Models Affected: Saf-T-Liner C2 School Buses built from April 11, 2017 through April 26, 2017.
General Information
These chassis were spec’d with the stay warm feature enabled in the engine control module that allows the engine to enter into a regen with vehicle speeds less than 40 mph (64 km/h) were delivered without this feature enabled. Operators may find this feature beneficial in extended low-speed operation. This notice does not reflect any known defects and is completely optional.
The stay warm feature will be activated at no charge if performed before July 31, 2019. Direct any questions to Freightliner

Procedure
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake. Chock the tires.
2. On a laptop computer, open the Cummins Insite® diagnostic program.
3. Connect the laptop connector to the diagnostic connector on the chassis. See Fig. 1.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position.
5. Go to “Features and Parameters.”
6. Select “Aftertreatment Diesel Particulate Filter Temperature Stabilization.”
7. Using the drop-down menu in the “ECM Value” column, change the setting to “Enable.” See Fig. 2.
A. Select Aftertreatment Diesel Particulate Filter Temperature Stabilization and enable the ECM Value in the second column.
B. Select Automotive Mobile Regeneration and verify that Minimum Vehicle Speed is set to 5 mph (8 km/h).
8. Select “Automotive Mobile Regeneration” and verify that “Minimum Vehicle Speed” is set to 5 mph (8 km/h).
9. With the ignition on, shut down the Insite diagnostic program and start the program again. Use the steps above to ensure that “Aftertreatment Diesel Particulate Filter Temperature Stabilization” is enabled.
10. Shut down the Insite diagnostic program, disconnect the connectors, and turn off the ignition.

This procedure is warrantable only if the described condition exists and the repair is performed within the
applicable base or extended coverage warranty period. If a failure is not found, this procedure is considered
preventive and warranty does not apply.
