A falling ceiling panel may distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash, or strike a vehicle occupant, increasing the risk of injury.

) is recalling certain 2020-2022 X3 Commuter and X3 Coach buses. The front ceiling panel may come loose and fall.
Remedy
Prevost Service Centers will reinforce the panel, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 17, 2021. Owners may contact Prevost
customer service at 1-866-870-2046. Prevost
’s number for this recall is SR21-12.

Prevost Car US Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2020, 2021 X3-45 Commuter & X3-45 coaches.
DEFECT DESCRIPTION
On a small number of vehicles, the front ceiling panel could become loose and fall inside the bus. This could cause a possible distraction for the driver.
SAFETY RISK
A ceiling panel that falls could distract the driver and increase the risk of a crash. Prevost has not received any report of injury or death associated with this defect. Therefore, we consider this as a proactive measure to protect the public from the potential risk associated with this defect.
IDENTIFICATION OF ANY WARNING THAT CAN PRECEDE
Front ceiling panel become loose, and a noise may be produced before the panel falls.
REMEDY PROGRAM
Prevost has released a service procedure to remedy the ceiling panel for the affected vehicle population. All cost associated with this repair will be covered by Prevost
.

NOTICE REGARDING LEASED VEHICLES
If you are a Lessor of vehicles subject to this Notice, you have an obligation under Federal Law to send a copy of this Notice to all Lessees within 10 days.
For purposes of this Notice, the terms:
Leased motor vehicle means any motor vehicle that is leased to a person for a term of at least four months by a lessor who has leased five or more vehicles in the twelve months preceding the date of notification by the vehicle manufacturer of the existence of a safety-related defect or noncompliance with a Federal motor vehicle safety standard in the motor vehicle.
Lessor means a person or entity that is the owner, as reflected on the vehicleโs title, of any five or more leased vehicles (as defined in 49CFR Section 577.4), as of the date of notification by the manufacturer of the existence of a safety-related defect or noncompliance with a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard in one or more of the leased motor vehicles.
Lessee means a person who is the lessee of a leased motor vehicle as defined in this section.

REIMBURSEMENT OF PRE-NOTIFICATION REMEDIES
When a Prevost vehicle is affected by a safety recall and the owner/purchaser (claimant) has the safety-related defect or FMVSS regulatory noncompliance remedied at their own expense prior to receiving the manufacturer notification of the safety recall, Prevost

PROCEDURE
DANGER
Park vehicle safely, apply parking brake, stop the engine. Prior to working on the vehicle, set the ignition switch to the OFF position and trip the main circuit breakers equipped with a trip button. On the Commuter type vehicles, set the battery master switch (master cut-out) to the OFF position.
Lockout & Tag out (LOTO) must be performed during set-up, maintenance or repair activities. Refer to your local procedure for detailed information regarding the control of hazardous energy.
1. Locate the ceiling panel which needs to be secured at the front of the vehicle, over the central aisle.
2. Mark two drillings position in accordance with the following image (dimension in millimeters).
3. Drill two 3/16 pilot holes where marked on the ceiling panel. Drill also through the plastic trim located underneath the aluminum panel.
4. Remove the ceiling panel.
5. Using a cutter, perform two notches and clear the Velcro strip where the spring nuts (clip) will be installed on the plastic trim (Figure 3).
6. Enlarge the pilot holes to 17/64โโ diameter on the ceiling panel and the plastic trim.
7. Install two spring nuts 5001406 (Figure 3) on the plastic trim.
8. Reinstall the ceiling panel.
9. Press the panel firmly so it will grip the Velcro strip.
10. Secure the ceiling panel using two new screws 509827 and two new finishing washers 500463 (Figure 4). Apply blue Loctite on the screws.

– April 19 2021 – First case reported on a X3 coach vehicles
– May 11 2021 – Second case reported and first case for X3com vehicles
– May 14 2021 – As per client request, a retrofit was released to address the issue on X3com vehicles
– May 14 2021 – An internal investigation was open to evaluate this case from safety stand point
– September 9, 2021 – Change order was released to address the defect on production line
– October 10 2021 – Case submitted for investigation to Product Safety Working Group (PSWG) as a potential safety related issue
– December 7 2021 – Case raised to the Product Safety Committee (PSC). PSC determines that a safety defect exists.
– December 9 2021 – Defect report submitted to NHTSA.

Production Dates : JUL 02, 2019 – MAY 14, 2021 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : Front ceiling panel of affected vehicles may become loose and, potentially, fall down. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If front ceiling panel falls down, it may cause distraction on the driver which may result in a vehicle crash. Prevost
has not received a report of death or injury associated with this defect. Therefore we consider this as a proactive measure to protect the public from the potential risk associated with this defect. Description of the Cause : Design defect which does not ensure proper attachment of front ceiling panel. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : Front ceiling panel become loose and a noise may be produced before, panel falls down. PSC determines that a safety defect exists. – December 9 2021 – Defect report submitted to NHTSA. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Safety Recall SR21-12 will be released to repair affected vehicles. Owner letters will be mailed on or before February 7th, 2022. Additional hardware will be added to reinforce the attachment of the panels. Pre-notification remedies will be addressed using Prevost’s General Reimbursement Plan. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The corrected installation will be affixed with hardware compared to the recalled installation which is only affixed with velcro.
