PTO Timer Module Inspection Instructions
Purpose: To inspect for the installed location of the PTO Timer Module, and also looking
for any signs of water damage, corrosion, overheating, or discoloration.
Background: Improper mounting location of the electronic PTO Timer Module may result
in water intrusion and component failure.
Inspection Procedure:
SAFETY : Please use safety glasses and gloves during the inspection.
TOOLS : Flashlight, Camera.
1.) The PTO Timer Module (InPower VCM-04-10SA) would be located on the passenger’s side near the up-fitter relay box and firewall, if mounted under the hood. If the module is not found in this location explore all areas under the hood for the presence of the module.
2.) If module is found to be located under the hood, please have a Reading Truck approved service location execute the repair, OR if you are a qualified mechanic and wish to execute the repair yourself, please follow the FI-63 Field Installation Instructions, and complete the “Component Installation Verification” form and submit to Reading Truck Group as directed. Then proceed to step 4 below to initiate a warranty claim.
3.) If no module if found under the hood, please navigate to the Reading Truck website and initiate a warranty claim – https://www.readingtruck.com/owners/warranty/. Complete the information required under “Step One” and “Step Two”, and under the “CLAIM DETAILS” section, in the box “Describe the issue”, please add text as follows: “No Timer Module Found Under The Hood For This Vehicle”

Note: All images in this document are for reference purposes only.
It is the installer’s responsibility to ensure all OEM chassis equipment, body and/or products are not damaged during set-up or installation.
PTO Timer Module Replacement Steps:
1) Disconnect the negative terminal of the chassis battery. If there is more than one battery, disconnect the negative terminal on every battery.
2) Locate the Original PTO Timer Module under the hood. It will be on the passenger side near the upfitter relay box.
3) Without removing any of the wiring, unmount the module.
4) Record the colors and locations of each of the four wires connected to the Original PTO Timer Module in the table below (FIGURE 1).
If two or more wires share the same color, mark each wire with the terminal number where it is connected. If two wires connect to the same terminal and are different colors, record both wire colors to that terminal number.
5) Cut the wires free that run to the Original PTO Timer Module.
Make the cuts close to the connector on the Timer Module.
Set the Original PTO Timer Module and connector to the side. It will not be reinstalled.
6) Connect the new harness to the wires that where cut loose from the Original PTO Timer Module. Follow the diagram below (Figure 2). Use the sealed butt splices that where provided with the new harness. Heat the splices to make a watertight connection.
7) Mount the new timer with the timer connector facing down.
8) Secure the spliced wires with zip ties.
9) Reconnect the negative battery cables.
10) Verify that the engine remote start stop are functioning correctly and that the PTO will restart after a 10-second delay.
Chronology :
One customer reported failure of the timer relay and as part of warranty claim, was requested to describe the description of events leading up to the claim. The customer stated that he smelt smoke which entered via the cab fresh air vents. When stopping to inspect, he triggered the circuit breaker which stopped the overheating of the Timer Relay module. The potential for smoke to be emitted when overheating due to malfunction resulted in the decision to declare this a recall due to the safety risk associated with the potential of smoke being emitted. Only one warranty claim received on 3/09/2022. No further warranty claims or defects reported to date. No deaths or injuries reported. Reading decided to conduct a safety recall on 03/24/2022.
