Newmar Corporation (Newmar
) is recalling certain 2019-2022 Bay Star
, Bay Star
Sport, Ventana, Dutch Star, New Aire, Canyon Star, 2019 Ventana LE, 2020-2022 Kountry Star, 2019-2020 Mountain Aire
, London Aire, Essex, and 2021 Super Star vehicles. The wiring under the seats may be incorrectly secured, which can lead to a pinched wire in the seat adjustment mechanism and cause an electrical short circuit.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and secure the wiring, adding circuit breaker and fuse protection as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on June 10, 2022. Owners may contact Newmar’s customer service at 1-800-731-8300.

Defect Remedy Program
Newmar Corporation will be conducting this recall in its entirety. Units identified as having a possible wiring issue will have the wiring under the driver/passenger seats inspected to make sure the wires are properly protected and secured. If needed wires will be protected and secured to prevent damage when the seat is moved. In addition to checking wires for proper protection Bay Star
, Bay Star
Sport and Canyon Star units will have a power seat circuit 30 amp auto reset breaker replaced with a power seat circuit 20 amp auto reset breaker located at the exterior fire wall and will have a 20 amp inline fuse installed at the seat. All additional Class A Diesel Pushers will have a power seat circuit 30 amp auto reset breaker replaced with a 30 amp fuse located in the front electrical bay. All repairs will be at no cost to customer.
Chronology :
2/14/22 – An investigation was initiated in to possible issues with pinched wires causing wire damage under the driver/passenger seats on certain Villa and Williamsburg supplied seats.
2/14/22 – 3/30/22 – During the investigation, additional research in warranty history identified possible Flexsteel seats with a similar issue.
4/4/22 – the investigation findings were presented to the product safety committee and a decision was made that a recall was needed.
Newmar received 9 warranty claims at the time of filing recall. The dates of claims 11/30/20 for hot seat wiring, 6/26/20 for hot seat breaker, 7/2/20 for a thermal event at seat, 1/4/21 for thermal event at seat, 5/15/21 for arcing damaging terminals, 6/22/21 for hot seat wiring, 6/25/21 for hot seat wiring, 11/2/21 seat fuse blowing, 1/12/22 for thermal event at seat. No deaths or injuries are associated with these claims

The total expected time for repair is .5hrs per power seat wiring protection and securement, .5hrs per 30 amp auto reset breaker replaced with 20 amp auto reset breaker and installation of 20 amp inline fuse, .25hrs for the 30 amp auto reset breaker replaced with 30 amp fuse. However, due to scheduling times the service provider may need the vehicle longer. Newmar received 9 warranty claims at the time of filing recall. The dates of claims 11/30/20 for hot seat wiring, 6/26/20 for hot seat breaker, 7/2/20 for a thermal event at seat, 1/4/21 for thermal event at seat, 5/15/21 for arcing damaging terminals, 6/22/21 for hot seat wiring, 6/25/21 for hot seat wiring, 11/2/21 seat fuse blowing, 1/12/22 for thermal event at seat. In addition to checking wires for proper protection Bay Star, Bay Star Sport and Canyon Star units will have a power seat circuit 30 amp auto reset breaker replaced with a power seat circuit 20 amp auto reset breaker located at the exterior fire wall and will have a 20 amp inline fuse installed at the seat. All additional Class A Diesel Pushers will have a power seat circuit 30 amp auto reset breaker replaced with a 30 amp fuse located in the front electrical bay.
