Cracked LP Gas Quick Disconnect Fitting

Summary
KZRV, L.P. (KZRV) is recalling certain 2021-2022 KZRV SportTrek, Sonic, Stratus, Connect, Sportsmen, Sportsmen SE, Sportsmen Classic, and Sportsmen Sportster fifth wheel and travel trailers. The quick disconnect fittings in the LP gas system may be cracked, causing a gas leak.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the fittings, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 9, 2022. Owners may contact KZRV customer service at 1-800-768-4016 ext. 154 or 153. KZRV’s number for this recall is KZ-2022-02.

STEP 1: LOCATE THE QUICK DISCONNECT(S);
- USUALLY THEY ARE LOCATED ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CHASSIS RAIL and/or on the hose assembly.
STEP 2: IDENTIFY THE COLOR OF RUBBER DUST CAP;
- BLACK RUBBER DUST CAP(S) THAT HAS “ENERCO GROUP” ETCHED ON THE SLIDER – THIS IS A RECALLED QUICK DISCONNECT AND REMEDY IS REQUIRED

STEP 2A: REMOVE THE QUICK DISCONNECT(S);
- ADJUST ONE WRENCH TO FIT THE HEX FLATS OF THE PIPE NIPPLE INSTALLED INTO THE END OF THE QD WHICH THEN CONNECTS TO A MANIFOLD OR BRACKET CONNECTED TO A LPG HOSE
- ADJUST THE OTHER WRENCH TO FIT THE BODY OF THE QD, KEEP WRENCH CLOSE TO THE PIPE NIPPLE SIDE OF THE QD
- KEEP STEADY PRESSURE ON THE PIPE NIPPLE WRENCH, DO NOT ALLOW IT TO ROTATE;
- UNTHREAD THE QUICK DISCONNECT FROM THE PIPE NIPPLE
- REMOVE ADJUSTABLE WRENCHES AND SET ASIDE FOR USE AGAIN
- USE THE WIRE BRUSH TO CLEAN ANY REMAINING SEALANT OR DEBRIS FROM THE PIPE NIPPLE THREADS
- CLEAN OFF WITH A RAG, ENSURING NOT TO GET ANY DEBRIS INSIDE OF THE PIPE NIPPLE
STEP 2B: INSTALL THE QUICK DISCONNECT(S);
- APPLY EITHER PIPE SEALANT OR YELLOW TEFLON TAPE TO THE PIPE NIPPLE THREADS
- DO NOT APPLY PIPE SEALANT INSIDE OF THE QUICK DISCONNECT
- ADJUST ONE WRENCH TO FIT THE HEX FLATS OF THE PIPE NIPPLE INSTALLED INTO THE END OF THE QD WHICH THEN CONNECTS TO A MANIFOLD OR BRACKET CONNECTED TO A LPG HOSE
- KEEP STEADY PRESSURE ON THE PIPE NIPPLE WRENCH, DO NOT ALLOW IT TO ROTATE
- HAND THREAD THE NEW QUICK DISCONNECT UNTIL TIGHT ONTO THE PIPE NIPPLE
- ADJUST THE OTHER WRENCH TO FIT THE BODY OF THE QD, KEEP WRENCH CLOSE TO THE PIPE NIPPLE SIDE OF THE QD
- TIGHTEN THE QUICK DISCONNECT:
- IF USING YELLOW TEFLON TAPE: 2 FULL TURNS
- ORIENT THE LEVER PARALLEL WITH THE GROUND o IF USING LP GAS THREAD SEALANT: 1 FULL TURN
- ORIENT THE LEVER PARALLEL WITH THE GROUND
STEP 3A: IF THE AUXILIARY HOSE HAS A RUBBER BLACK DUST CAP, THE QUICK DISCONNECT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED;
- ADJUST ONE WRENCH TO FIT THE HEX FLATS OF THE BRASS BARB FITTING INSTALLED INTO THE END OF THE BLACK LP HOSE WHICH THEN CONNECTS TO THE QD
- ADJUST THE OTHER WRENCH TO FIT THE BODY OF THE QD, KEEP WRENCH CLOSE TO THE BRASS BARB FITTING SIDE OF THE QD
- KEEP STEADY PRESSURE ON THE BRASS BARB FITTING WRENCH, DO NOT ALLOW IT TO ROTATE;
- UNTHREAD THE QUICK DISCONNECT FROM THE BRASS BARB FITTING
- REMOVE ADJUSTABLE WRENCHES AND SET ASIDE FOR USE AGAIN
- USE THE WIRE BRUSH TO CLEAN ANY REMAINING SEALANT OR DEBRIS FROM THE BRASS BARB FITTING THREADS
- CLEAN OFF WITH A RAG, ENSURING NOT TO GET ANY DEBRIS INSIDE OF THE BRASS BARB FITTING

4/21/2022 – Enerco provides information regarding supplied product.
4/23/2022 – KZ confirms use of the fittings and continues investigation to determine affected units.
4/25/2022 – KZ holds a safety committee meeting and votes to issue a recall.
4/26/2022-5/19/2022 – KZ continues to review purchase orders and production data. Determines that a number of included VINs were not equipped with the defective fitting and reduces the total population. No warranty data, customer complaints or other data has been received.
