REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Perform a visual inspection of all quick disconnect fittings on the unit. There may be as many as three quick disconnects depending on the floorplan. Inspect the quick disconnect carefully to identify any cracks on the “fixed ring” end of the quick disconnect fitting.
2. Spray each fitting with a soapy water mixture to test for leaks, concentrating on the fixed ring end of the fitting. If a crack is identified, replace the quick disconnect fitting.
3. Once failed quick disconnect(s) are replaced, perform a drop test to ensure there are no leaks in the LP system.
Chronology :
In mid-May 2021, Grand Design identified cracked LP quick connect fittings which appear to be production related. Grand Design communicated the issue to the supplier, Enerco Flex Tech. Enerco Flex Tech did not share any potential safety issues, advising the issue appeared to be their quality control/production, and advised they would make process improvement to the component manufacturing. Upon review, no field failures were identified.
Subsequently, over the following approximate 9-10 month period, Grand Design occasionally identified Enerco Flex Tech cracked fitting upon receipt, or during production quality checks. After each finding, Grand Design communicated with the supplier which continued to assure the issue was one of manufacturing quality assurance. Given vendor feedback, Grand Design did not identify a potential safety related concern.
In March 2022, Winnebago Towables identified additional Enerco Flex Tech cracked fittings in production. On April 7, 2022, Winnebago
Industries opened an investigation to assess the situation at Grand Design and across its associated companies. Inventory was inspected and warranty claims were analyzed. Approximately mid-April, Winnebago
was advised of a pending recall by another OEM regarding a similar issue. On April 18, 2022, Grand Design was able to re-create cracked fittings at specified toque and sent sample parts to a third party engineering consultant for analysis.
On or about April 20, 2022 Enerco Flex Tech advised Winnebago that is was filing a defect report with NHTSA regarding the component and issue. About May 3, 2022 Grand Design’s third party engineering consultant offered the tentative opinion that the cause of the cracks is over tightening of the transition fitting between the valve body and manifold by the supplier during their manufacturing process. That same day Winnebago
’s product safety committee met and decided to file a defect information report with NHTSA.

In all cases, suspect fittings are located outside the living quarters of the RV (underneath or at an outside kitchen). Description of the Cause : When the fitting is tightened, the brass female housing may crack. Root cause has not been identified at this time. It is believed to be related to an interference between the male and female parts in this connection. As part of due diligence, Winnebago Industries is conducting an ongoing independent root cause analysis. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : A customer may notice the smell of LP gas near the quick disconnect fitting or visibly notice a crack in the fitting.. Involved Components : Component Name 1 : LP Quick Disconnect Component Description : LP Quick Disconnect Component Part Number : 76290w Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : Flex-Tech Hose & Tubing, LLC Address : 1100 Civic Center Loop San Marcos Texas 78666 Country : United States Chronology : In mid-May 2021, Grand Design identified cracked LP quick connect fittings which appear to be production related. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-308 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR ยง573 In March 2022, Winnebago Towables identified additional Enerco Flex Tech cracked fittings in production. On April 7, 2022, Winnebago Industries opened an investigation to assess the situation at Grand Design and across its associated companies. Inventory was inspected and warranty claims were analyzed. Approximately mid- April, Winnebago was advised of a pending recall by another OEM regarding a similar issue. That same day Winnebago’s product safety committee met and decided to file a defect information report with NHTSA. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : All suspect components will be replaced with new components with different design. Owners that have paid for this service to be performed will be reimbursed by Grand Design for any expenses incurred relating to this defect. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Torqueing the recalled quick-disconnect to the required vendor specification introduces the risk of cracking. Replacement quick-disconnects are from another manufacturer and do not crack under the required torque value. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : All Enerco Flex-Tech quick-disconnect components were immediately pulled from the production floor and replaced with a different quick disconnect supplier. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by First Class mail that their vehicle is affected by this recall. In addition, we will post recall information electronically for consumer access. Dealers will be notified of the recall action (by First Class mail & electronically) and will be supplied with repair instructions and vehicle identification information.
