Forest River
, Inc. (Forest) is recalling certain 2022 Coachmen Viking, Clipper, and VTREC camping trailers. The pull-out bunk bed may not be laminated and therefore not support weight as intended, causing the pull-out bunk to fail.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the bunk(s) for lamination and replace them if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 24, 2022. Owners may contact Forest River
Customer Service at 1-269-467-8281. Forest River
’s number for this recall is 120-1540.

has decided that a defect, which relates to the motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2022 Viking, Clipper and VTREC 1,2 and 3 camping trailers. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person.
WHAT IS THE DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE?
The pullout bunk of the tent camper
may not be laminated as designed. The pullout bunk may potentially be non-laminated. Without being a laminated pullout bunk may not meet the load rating.
EVALUATION OF THE RISK TO THE VEHICLE AND OPERATOR(S) RELATED TO THE RECALL.
If the bunk is not laminated, it may not meet the load rating. If the load rating is not met, there is an increased chance of the pull-out bunk failing, causing personal injury.
WHAT IS FOREST RIVER
AND OUR DEALERSHIPS GOING TO DO?
Forest River
is notifying dealerships of the recall. You may have the recall corrected at any Forest River
dealership. An authorized Forest River
dealer or service center will need to perform the remedy to inspect the bunk for lamination and replace the bunk(s) if found to not be laminated. It is preferable if you have your selling dealership perform the remedy. Forest River
completely covers your cost for the remedy; you will not receive any bill of sale for anything covered under the above recall number.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Please contact your dealer immediately and request a service appointment to schedule the free remedy. The vehicle Owner is responsible for arranging to have the work completed. Please state you have been notified by Forest River
of having a recall in process for your vehicle and provide the recall number for the dealership. It is also helpful to the dealership to have a copy of this letter when you take your vehicle in for the recall remedy.

HOW LONG WILL THE REMEDY PROCESS TAKE?
The estimated time of repair is 2.0 hours. However, the dealership may need to keep your vehicle or schedule an appointment with you for a later date to fit into their regular service schedule.

INSPECTION:
STEP 1: RAISE THE ROOF AND DEPLOY THE BUNKS;
STEP 2: USE A HAND, RUBBER MALLET OR OTHER TOOL TO TAP ON THE BUNK;
- WHEN TAPPED OR PUSHED ON, IF THE BUNK PANELS “GIVES” THEN IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED;
- WHEN TAPPED OR PUSHED ON, IF THE BUNK PANELS DO NOT “GIVE” THEN THE BUNK IS GOOD;
- ENSURE TO CHECK ALL BUNK(S) ON THE VEHICLE;
STEP 3: IF THE BUNK(S) ARE GOOD, CLAIM THE INSPECTION CODE ONLY;
STEP 4: IF ANY BUNK IS FOUND TO BE “BAD” (NON-LAMINATED), MOVE ON TO REMEDY;
REMEDY:
STEP 1: REMOVE THE HARDWARE FROM THE GOLD COLORED RAILS THAT ARE ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE BODY RAILS;
STEP 3: REMOVE THE FASTENERS THAT CLAMP THE CANVAS TO THE END OF THE BUNK;
STEP 4: REMOVE THE BUNK FROM THE VEHICLE AND SET ASIDE ONTO SAW HORSES;
STEP 5: REMOVE THE ALUMINUM PARAMETER FRAMEWORK FROM THE BUNK;
- SET ALL FASTENERS AND ALUMINUM ASIDE FOR REUSE;
- REMOVE THE BLACK ANGLES FROM THE BUNK;
- REMOVE THE PULL STRAP;
- REMOVE ALL COMPONENTS FROM THE BUNK;
- NOTE HOW THE FASTENERS ARE ATTACHING THE ALUMINUM FRAMEWORK TO THE BUNK AS IT WILL NEED TO INSTALLED ONTO THE REPLACEMENT BUNK THE SAME FASHION;
STEP 6: SET THE NON-LAMINATED BUNK ASIDE
STEP 7: PUT THE NEW LAMINATED BUNK ONTO THE SAW HORSES;
STEP 8: RE-ATTACHED ALL COMPONENTS IN THE REVERSE ORDER IN WHICH THEY CAME OFF THE BUNK;
STEP 9: RE-ATTACH THE TENT CLAMP TO THE END OF THE BUNK;
STEP 10: RE-ATTACH TO THE GOLD COLORED RAILS;
STEP 11: RE-ATTACH GOLD COLOR RAILS TO THE BODY RAILS;
STEP 12: MOVE BUNK IN AND OUT, DEPLOY THE TENT BOW AND SET UP THE BUNK TO ENSURE PROPER WORKING ORDER;
STEP 13: CLAIM THE REPAIR CODE.
