The inspection point is at the awning fabric seam at the awning rail at the wall of the unit (Fig. 1). This only affects awnings manufactured January 17, 2022 – June 14, 2022. The date of manufacture can be located on the variant code label (Fig. 2) located on the awning. The “WARNING” symbol above is a sign that a procedure has a safety risk involved and may cause death, serious personal injury, severe product and/or property damage if not performed safely and within the parameters set forth in this document. The “CAUTION” symbol above is a sign that a procedure has a safety risk involved and may cause personal injury, product and/or property damage if not performed safely and within the parameters set forth in this document. Many variables can change the circumstances of any procedure, i.e. the degree of difficulty involved in the service operation and the ability level of the individual performing the operation. This document cannot begin to plot out procedures for every possibility, but will provide the general instructions for effectively installing, removing or servicing the system. In the event the skill level required is too advanced or the procedure too difficult, a certified technician should be consulted before performing the necessary operation. Failure to correctly install, remove or service the system may result in voiding the warranty, inflicting injury or even death. Position stepladder next to the unit to view the topside of the awning at the unit wall from either end (drive/idler side). 2. Inspect the weld near the awning rail (Fig. 3A). A. Fig. 3 shows no separation at the seam. It does not require repair or replacement. B. Fig. 3 shows separation at the seam (Fig. 4A). I. If the separation is less than 6 inches, repair can be accomplished using the procedure described in TI-434. II. If the separation is over 6 inches it will require awning fabric replacement using the procedure described in TI-166. A defect with Lippert Solera Awnings was determined to exist in certain 2022 & 2023 Grand Design Momentum, Solitude, Reflection, Imagine and Transcend fifth wheel and travel trailers produced between February 7, 2022, and July 12, 2022. The welded seam at the fabric to vehicle awning rail may separate on Lippert Solera awnings up to 18 foot in length. In extreme cases the fabric could detach from the awning rail and remain attached to the awning tube. The Product Safety Committee met to review findings on August 9, 2022 where it was determined a field action was necessary. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Lippert Components has provided instructions for inspection and repair or replacement as needed of awning which do not pass the inspection or have an occurrence. If repair or replacement is needed, Lippert will supply the necessary items to complete the repair or replace the faulty product. Owners that have paid to have this service performed will be reimbursed by Grand Design for any expenses incurred relating to the defect. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Lippert Components is providing replacement material which is produced after June 20, 2022 which Lippert states is certified through internal processes. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Lippert Components identified the issue June 16th and suspended shipment of all inferior product. Grand Design made no changes in production due to this being a vendor supplied component.
