As such, these vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 217, “Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release.”
Remedy
Collins Bus will mail new labels, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 21, 2022. Owners may contact Collins Bus’ customer service at 1-800-533-1850 ext. 424.

Chronology :
Collins had a meeting April 8, 2020, to determine the decal was not in compliance with FMVSS217. All units in production were inspected and will be corrected before shipping.
Collins subsequently petitioned NHTSA on April 30, 2020, for a decision that the subject noncompliance is inconsequential as it relates to motor vehicle safety. Collins received the denial of this petition on August 8, 2022.

Description of the Defect or Noncompliance and Chronology of Events Collins Bus was notified by NHSTA Safety Compliance engineer office of Vehicle safety Compliance appears to be non-complaint of FMVSS217. Emergency Exit Identification and Labeling. When measured from the interior, the character height for the operating instructions for the left and right emergency exit windows is 8 mm. The letter height and location for the operating instructions does not meet the minimum height requirement.
