A list of affected motorhome serial numbers appears at the end of this Bulletin. CONPIJION: On motorhomes affected by th is recall campaign, the stationary manufactured step tread on interior entry steps, may have not been secured to the plywood substrate, causing potential for the tread to become loose, and may detach with step usage. If a step tread detaches from its plywood substrate, the step tread may become unstable, shift, or detach posing a risk of personal injury. Page 1 CORRECTION PROCEDURE: 1. Park the motorhome on a dry, level, paved hard surface. Place the transmission into Park. Engage the parking brake. 2. Turn off ignition and remove the keys. Maintain control of keys until all repairs are performed. 3. Chock the wheels to prevent movement. 4. Be cautious of pinch points on and near the mechanical entry step as it could move unexpectedly. THINK SAFETY AND USE APPROPRIATE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT TO AVOID INJURY. CAUTION: ENTRY STEP MAY COME OUT WHEN OPENING THE ENTRY DOOR. 5. Open the entry door to access interior step treads. 6. Using a putty knife, carefully wedge it between the bottom step and the threshold. Carefully pry upwards to ensure the step tread is tightly secured. Be sure not to damage the tread surface. (See Figure 1) If the tread is loose, carefully clean dust and debris from in between the tread and the sheet metal. Remove any adhesive that may be between the step tread and the sheet metal with a putty knife. Apply a sufficient amount of Loctite Power Grab (purchased locally at box store) adhesive to the sheet metal in a random pattern for complete coverage. Do not substitute! Carefully reinstall the step tread, making sure to have the tread tight against the th reshold. Loctite Power Grab requires 24 hours to fully cure. Figure 1 7. Move to the center step. Using a putty knife, carefully remove nylon caps covering the top step tread fasteners. (See figu re 2) Be sure not to damage the tread surface. J Center Figure 2 Page 2 – TWO (2) PHOTOS ARE REQUIRED, ONE OF EACH HOLE 8. Using a coin slotted bit remove the mounting screw and washer holding the tread in place. Inspect the step tread for damage/cracks at the recessed area where the screws were removed. Take a photo of each hole during your inspection. These photos will be needed for the claim . NOTE: Keep fasteners to be reused later. (See figure 3) Figure 3 9. Once the screws are removed lift up and remove the step tread. Using a putty knife, inspect to see if tread is securely bonded to the plywood substrate. (See figure 4) A) If adhesive/sealant was used to bond the tread to the plywood substrate, carefully reinstall the step tread, screw/washer, and the nylon caps. Double check to ensure no damage was created at the screw holes (make sure to take photos of the holes prior to re-assembly, these will need to be submitted for authorization). No further action is required. NOTE: Do not over tighten or strip screws (Use hand tools). Use Flat Rate Code 6308-11 Inspected/Not Defective B) If the step tread is not bonded and can be pried apart from the plywood substrate using a putty knife, continue on to the next steps. NOTE: This is most likely the scenario. Figure 4 10. Carefully clean all dust and debris from in between both the plywood substrate and step tread. Page 3 Page 4 11. Apply a sufficient amount of Loctite Power Grab (purchased locally at box store) adhesive to the plywood substrate in a random pattern for complete coverage. Do not substitute!! (See figure 5 for proper application) 12. Flip the plywood substrate over and align the screw holes with the step tread. Firmly push plywood substrate into the step tread. Add quick grip clamps to prevent movement. (Make sure not to damage the tread surface). While still aligned, add a 1” pin nail to all four corners and at least 2 in the middle of the step tread to prevent movement while the adhesive cures. Clean up any adhesive oozing out between the two pieces. (See figure 6) 13. Carefully reinstall the step tread using the screw/washer, and nylon caps. Do not over tighten. (Use hand tools) (See figure 7) Figure 5 Figure 6 Figure 7 Note: In the event the step tread mounting screws will not fully seat to hold the step tread in place, or are at risk of becoming stripped, the Parts kit will contain 2 cl ips and 4 screws for replacement on the sheet metal entry step frame. See instructions below to access the cl ips. 14.To gain access to the lower mounting cl ips, the step tread needs to be removed as well as the riser panel, and the sheet metal battery cover on the center step. 15. To remove the riser panel, locate and remove all four screws. (See figure 8) Figure 8 16. Once the riser panel is removed, you can lift off the sheet metal battery cover. Caution: Edges may be sharp. Please use cut resistant gloves. (See figure 9) Figure 9 Page 5 Note: The batteries do not have to be removed to complete repairs; however, cover the battery terminals prior to beginning work and use insulated tools and personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves) to prevent accidental contact with battery terminals or wiring 17. Once the sheet metal battery cover is removed, you can see where the cl ip and screws are mounted to the step frame. Carefully remove the screws from the top making sure not to drop the screws in the battery compartment. Hold the clip from the underside with vice grips, making sure not to drop into the battery compartment. (See figure 10) Figure 10 Figure 11 18. Line the new cl ip up with the center hole on the underside of the step frame and clamp it in place using vice grips. Install the new screws from the top side of the step frame. Note: Below are examples of the clip mounting that you might find. The pre punched holes in the sheet metal may not be used. Key point is to ensure the center cl ip hole aligns with the sheet metal hole. 19. Once the new clips and screws are in place, reinstall the sheet metal battery cover, and riser panel. Carefully reinstall the step tread using the screw/washer. Be sure not over tighten the screws (Use hand tools) and re-insert the nylon caps. August 31, 2022 – A dealership, Giant RV reached out with some concern regarding a step tread being loose from the bolts on unit # 764RP4439064 manufactured on 08/18/22 September 1 – REV RV continued to follow up with the dealer to get further details of issue. September 9 – REV RV Quality and Engineering personnel were contacted regarding the field report details. September 12 – A stop ship quarantine was issued by REV RV Quality. September 20 – REV RV started a warranty claim review. No previous issues were found.Quality department launched an initiative to inspect all units on-site to evaluate the scope of the issue. October 3 – Investigation of field units continued. October 14 – A remedy was applied consisting of fasteners and adhesive to units that were not compliant. They were then released from stop ship quarantine. October 27 – Collective analysis was performed of data from the field, engineering and quality. November 2 – REV RV reviewed the data results with the safety committee. Results determined that at the beginning with the 2022 model year, a change to the installation location of the entry step treads resulted in the new operator missing the adhesive process on select gasoline chassis models. November 4 – REV RV sent recommendation to REV Corporate for consideration and review. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : REV RV Group will notify customers of the campaign. Rev will also notify dealers by providing instructions outlining the inspection and if needed, properly adhere the step tread to the plywood support structure & replace tread that may be damaged. The repairs will be made free of charge. Owners that have previously paid to have their RV remedied will be reimbursed upon presentation of a receipt. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Engineering has reviewed the processes and updated the entry step assembly schematics. Quality and Operations have implemented training and standard work to ensure proper securement and installation of the manufactured step tread to plywood substrate supporting structure.
