Production Dates : MAR 03, 2022 – MAR 07, 2022 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : The catalytic theft deterrent cover may chafe against the hydraulic brake lines causing the lines to develop a hole resulting in a loss of hydraulic brake fluid. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : A loss of hydraulic brake fluid can result in diminished or loss of brakes which could increase the risk of a crash. Description of the Cause : Under investigation Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : The chafing occurs without warning. Utillimaster technicians inspected a certain number of vehicles and found adequate clearance on vehicles built on the F-59 chassis but not those built on the MT45. On 11/1/2022, The total number of units were identified along with their date ranges. Shyft determined a safety related defect may exist in those vehicles on 11/7/2022. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The cover will be removed and the corner that chafes the brake lines will be cut down to provide clearance. If chafed, the brake lines will be replaced. This will be done at no charge. Vehicles subject to this recall would be covered by Utilimaster’s warranty. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy component will have adequate clearance between the cover and the brake lines. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The corner of the cover has been cut at an angle to provide adequate clearance effective March 8, 2022.
