Description of defect or noncompliance: We have learned of an event in which it was claimed that the WELD Off Road 17×9, + 0, 8 lugs Crux Wheels failed. As we took safety very seriously we run different test on this wheel model and size and we concluded that these wheels may be susceptible to cracking. Evaluation of the risk to motor vehicle safety:
If a wheel crack remains undetected, it could eventually lead to separation of the wheel from the rim, which could potentially cause a loss of vehicle control. The separated components may also damage the adjacent wheel end, suspension or body panel components and result in hazardous road debris. To date, there have been no reports of accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this condition, and only minor property damage (i.e., damage to the wheel end and adjacent components) has been reported in connection with this issue. Remedy: Replace or Refund
Distributors and retailers should immediately quarantine the products, cease sales, and return the wheels to MW Co. Distributors. Contact MW Co. at 1-888-576 9638 to arrange the return of the wheels. Retailers should also notify MW Co. of the customer list. To the extent that a customer list is not provided to us, distributors and retailers should send the customer recall announcement to the customer. MW Company LLC (“MW Co.”) has learned of an incident in which it was claimed that our product, the WELD Off Road Wheel 17″x9″, 8 lugs, CRUX failed. We have immediately undertaken an investigation to determine the cause of this reported incident. Our records show that between December 2021 and today, you may have sold our WELD Off Road Wheel 17″x9″, 8 lugs CRUX Product No. W12079017500 or W12079018500 or W12079082500 or W11979017500 or W11979018500 or W11979082500. These wheels may be susceptible to cracking. If a wheel crack remains undetected, it could eventually lead to separation of the wheel from the rim. Out of an abundance of caution, we urgently ask that you cease selling the products listed above. Please quarantine all products in your possession and contact us so we can arrange shipment back to us. We would like to offer your customers who purchased these products a refund or replacement. These products will be recalled for replacement by the servicing dealers and retailers using new inventory provided by MW Co. These replacements will be without charge to the consumer. In addition, the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, as amended, provides that each product which is subject to a recall campaign of this type must be adequately replaced or refunded within a reasonable time not exceeding 60 days after the owner’s first tender to remedy the issue. To facilitate this recall process, kindly send us a customer list. To the extent that a customer list is not provided to us, please send the enclosed customer recall announcement to your customers, and confirm the date you have mailed or emailed the notice. Please also post the enclosed at your establishment where the consumers can see it. The safety of our consumers is our number one priority, followed closely by your and our reputation. We have learned of an incident in which it was claimed that the WELD Off Road 17×9, + 0, 8 lugs Crux Wheel failed. These wheels may be susceptible to cracking. A wheel crack will result in a flat tire. If a wheel crack remains undetected, it could eventually lead to separation of the wheel from the rim which could potentially cause a loss of vehicle control. The separated components may also damage the adjacent wheel end, suspension or body panel components and result in hazardous road debris. To date, there have been no reports of accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this condition, and only minor property damage (i.e., damage to the wheel end and adjacent components) has been reported in connection with this issue. Description of the Defect : MW learned of one event related to the SKU W12079017500 in which it was claimed that the WELD Off Road Wheel 17″ 8 lugs CRUX failed due to cracking. We are conducting a voluntary recall of all SKUS listed above because these wheels may be susceptible to cracking, especially when used with tires having larger outer diameters.

Description of the Safety Risk : To date, there have been no reports of accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to these wheels, and only minor property damage (i.e., damage to the wheel end and adjacent components) has been reported in connection with this issue. However, if a wheel crack remains undetected, it could eventually lead to separation of the wheel from the rim, which could potentially cause a loss of vehicle control. This defect may cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. The separated components may also damage the adjacent wheel end, suspension or body panel components and result in hazardous road debris.

On August 23, 2022, MW received one consumer complaint which claimed that in one event, the WELD Off Road Wheel 17″ 8 lugs CRUX failed due to cracking. The report indicated no accidents, injuries, fatalities, or warranty claims. There have been no other reports claiming that the WELD Off Road Wheel 17″ 8 lugs CRUX failed due to cracking. To date, there have been no reports of accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to these wheels. Only minor property damage (i.e., damage to the wheel end and adjacent components) has been reported in connection with this issue. On August 29, 2022, MW engineers and third-party labs conducted Dynamic Radial Fatigue and Dynamic Cornering Fatigue tests per SAE J2530 Aftermarket Wheel Performance Requirements testing of this wheel model and size in inventory. In an abundance of caution, MW notified customers and retailers prior to this report on August 25th, August 29th, and September 28th. These early notifications allowed MW to pull these products from the market to give MW time to conduct testing and make a determination without putting other customers at risk. MW tested the inventory and corresponded with the manufacturer for testing and review of the initial case. The test results were released on October 3, 2022, and showed that the wheels were susceptible to cracking, especially when used with tires having larger outer diameters. MW considered that wheel cracks, if left undetected, could eventually lead to separation of the wheel from the rim, which could potentially cause a loss of vehicle control. Based on these tests and in an abundance of caution, MW determined on October 3, 2022, that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the wheels listed in this report. The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22E-097 Page 8 Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Consumers are eligible for a replacement of modified wheels with the
same design and fitment at no cost or a refund beginning December 2022. This remedy shall be available until 10 calendar days after the date on which MW mails the last of its notifications to owners or 30 days after the conclusion of the MW’s initial efforts to provide public notice of the existence of the defect, whichever is later. MW shall make its reimbursement plan available on its website. Claimants may e-mail or mail reimbursement claims to MW. Reimbursement shall be in the form of a check or cash from MW or a designated dealer or facility. Claimants who wish to be reimbursed must provide: (1) Name and mailing address of the claimant; (2) A description of the equipment, including the model and size; and (3) Identification of the recall (either the NHTSA recall number or the manufacturer’s recall number). How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : MW shall provide reimbursement of costs for pre-notification remedies, subject to certain conditions allowed under 49 CFR 573.13(d).MW shall reimburse the amount paid by the consumer for the replacement item. If the consumer purchased a brand or model different from the recalled wheels, the amount of reimbursement is limited to the retail list price of the defective item that was replaced, plus taxes. If the wheel was repaired, then the reimbursement amount shall not be less than the lesser of the amount paid by the consumer for the remedy, or the cost of parts for the remedy plus associated labor and miscellaneous fees. Costs for parts is limited to MW’s list retail price for authorized parts. Claimants who wish to be reimbursed for pre-notification remedies must provide: (1) Identification of the owner or purchaser of the recalled wheel at the time that the pre-notification remedy was obtained; and (2) A receipt for the pre-notification remedy, which may be an original or copy.

Distributors and Retailers. On September 28, 2022, MW sent a notification to its retailers regarding the recall, and notifying end users. On 11/07/2022 MW posted the recall notice on its website, social media and digital outlets. Description of the Defect : MW learned of one event related to the SKU W12079017500 in which it was claimed that the WELD Off Road Wheel 17″ 8 lugs CRUX failed due to cracking. We are conducting a voluntary recall of all SKUS listed above because these wheels may be susceptible to cracking, especially when used with tires having larger outer diameters.

Description of the Safety Risk : To date, there have been no reports of accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to these wheels, and only minor property damage (i.e., damage to the wheel end and adjacent components) has been reported in connection with this issue. However, if a wheel crack remains undetected, it could eventually lead to separation of the wheel from the rim, which could potentially cause a loss of vehicle control. This defect may cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. The separated components may also damage the adjacent wheel end, suspension or body panel components and result in hazardous road debris.

On August 23, 2022, MW received one consumer complaint which claimed that in one event, the WELD Off Road Wheel 17″ 8 lugs CRUX failed due to cracking. The report indicated no accidents, injuries, fatalities, or warranty claims. There have been no other reports claiming that the WELD Off Road Wheel 17″ 8 lugs CRUX failed due to cracking. To date, there have been no reports of accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to these wheels. Only minor property damage (i.e., damage to the wheel end and adjacent components) has been reported in connection with this issue. On August 29, 2022, MW engineers and third-party labs conducted Dynamic Radial Fatigue and Dynamic Cornering Fatigue tests per SAE J2530 Aftermarket Wheel Performance Requirements testing of this wheel model and size in inventory. The tests showed that the wheels were susceptible to cracking, especially when used with tires having larger outer diameters. MW considered that wheel cracks, if left undetected, could eventually lead to separation of the wheel from the rim, which could potentially cause a loss of vehicle control. Based on these tests and in an abundance of caution, MW determined on October 3, 2022, that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the wheels listed in this report. MW Co. then decided to send recall notices of 100% of the lot obtained from the supplier. Description of Remedy Program : Consumers are eligible for a replacement of modified wheels with the
same design and fitment at no cost or a refund beginning December 2022. This remedy shall be available until 10 calendar days after the date on which MW mails the last of its notifications to owners or 30 days after the conclusion of the MW’s initial efforts to provide public notice of the existence of the defect, whichever is later. MW shall make its reimbursement plan available on its website. Claimants may e-mail or mail reimbursement claims to MW. Reimbursement shall be in the form of a check or cash from MW or a designated dealer or facility. Claimants who wish to be reimbursed must provide: (1) Name and mailing address of the claimant; (2) A description of the equipment, including the model and size; and (3) Identification of the recall (either the NHTSA recall number or the manufacturer’s recall number). How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : MW shall provide reimbursement of costs for pre-notification remedies, subject to certain conditions allowed under 49 CFR 573.13(d).MW shall reimburse the amount paid by the consumer for the replacement item. If the consumer purchased a brand or model different from the recalled wheels, the amount of reimbursement is limited to the retail list price of the defective item that was replaced, plus taxes. If the wheel was repaired, then the reimbursement amount shall not be less than the lesser of the amount paid by the consumer for the remedy, or the cost of parts for the remedy plus associated labor and miscellaneous fees. Costs for parts is limited to MW’s list retail price for authorized parts. Claimants who wish to be reimbursed for pre-notification remedies must provide: (1) Identification of the owner or purchaser of the recalled wheel at the time that the pre-notification remedy was obtained; and (2) A receipt for the pre-notification remedy, which may be an original or copy.

If the consumer purchased a brand or model different from the recalled wheels, the amount of reimbursement is limited to the retail list price of the defective item that was replaced, plus taxes. If the wheel was repaired, then the reimbursement amount shall not be less than the lesser of the amount paid by the consumer for the remedy, or the cost of parts for the remedy plus associated labor and miscellaneous fees. Costs for parts is limited to MW’s list retail price for authorized parts. Claimants who wish to be reimbursed for pre-notification remedies must provide: (1) Identification of the owner or purchaser of the recalled wheel at the time that the pre-notification remedy was obtained; and (2) A receipt for the pre-notification remedy, which may be an original or copy.

Description of Recall Schedule : On August 25, 2022, MW sent a voluntary safety recall notice to
Distributors and Retailers. On September 28, 2022, MW sent a notification to its retailers regarding the recall, and notifying end users. On 11/07/2022 MW posted the recall notice on its website, social media and digital outlets. The remedy of a replacement or a refund will be available as of December 2022. At this time, MW does not foresee any identifiable problems with implementing the recall.
