Suspension Tracking Rod Brackets May Fail
An unstable axle can decrease vehicle stability and control, increasing the risk of a crash.

) is recalling certain 2015-2023 Peterbilt
320 and 520 refuse trucks equipped with Haulmaax/EX suspensions. The suspension tracking rod brackets may fail and detach from the forward drive axle, causing the axle to become unstable.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the welds and add an additional bracket between the tracking rod bracket and axle housing, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 14, 2023. Owners may contact Peterbilt

is seeing failures on the Model 320 and Model 520 tracking rod brackets with Hendrickson
HAULMAAX/EX suspensions in refuse operations. The tracking rod brackets may become detached from the axle. If this happens the axle loses its primary lateral stability, which may increase the risk of a crash. There is no warning preceding the failure of these components.
Chronology :
7/27/2021 – Safety & Compliance notified of a rollover in Houston, TX (chassis 100009, truck built
11/13/2014). Truck had a previous repair to the track rod bracket and axle housing with an unknown process/welder. Investigation by engineering and manufacturing of weld processes at plants.
8/16/2021 โ Inspection and repair procedure drafts began internal review.
8/21/2021 โ Notified of a rollover in Detroit (Chassis 173523, truck build date 7/15/2016). No pictures or parts were provided nor potential cause of incident.
10/15/2021 โ Model 520 SRT truck weld inspection trial with dye penetrant conducted at Denton plant.
11/23/2021 to 4/7/2022 โ Engineering worked with Rush dealer group on weld procedure, inspection and repair with service techs.
12/16/2021 โ Notified NHTSA of this issue being investigated.

Truck had a previous repair to the track rod bracket and axle housing with an unknown process/welder. Investigation by engineering and manufacturing of weld processes at plants. 8/16/2021 โ Inspection and repair procedure drafts began internal review. 8/21/2021 โ Notified of a rollover in Detroit (Chassis 173523, truck build date 7/15/2016). No pictures or parts were provided nor potential cause of incident. 10/15/2021 โ Model 520 SRT truck weld inspection trial with dye penetrant conducted at Denton plant. 11/23/2021 to 4/7/2022 โ Engineering worked with Rush dealer group on weld procedure, inspection and repair with service techs. 12/16/2021 โ Notified NHTSA of this issue being investigated. 3/24/2022 โ Update given to NHTSA 3/30/2022 โ Notified of rollover in Denver (Chassis 174470, truck build date 1/13/2017) 4/5/2022 through end of 2022 โ PACCAR

How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Recalled components do not have additional bracket support. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2015 – 2022 Model Year 320 and 520 vehicles built during 01/01/2014 through 11/30/2022 and equipped with a HAULMAAX/EX suspension. Certain tracking rod brackets in refuse operations may detach from the axle without warning. This can cause the axle to lose its primary lateral stability, which may increase the risk of a crash. What is the problem? Certain tracking rod brackets in refuse operations may detach from the axle. What will your dealer do? Inspect and repair of tracking rod bracket if the weld is found to be cracked. Also, the tracking rod bracket will be reinforced during the repair process. What should you do? Contact your Peterbilt
dealer to schedule an appointment for repair. Peterbilt
